Pros: Slightly less derivative than Eragon Cons: Assorted silliness and nitpicks
Eldest is the second installment in Christopher Paolini's Inheritance trilogy. The story began in the young adult novel, Eragon, in which the teen orphan Eragon discovers a dragon egg, bonds with the dragon Saphira, sets off across the country to ...
Pros: Wonderful book for fantasy genre lovers. Cons: Hard to put down if you're a fantasy genre addict! Can be a difficult read.
Fantasy readers unite! I have a pre-teen who devours books. He speeds through books that interest him. He loves books in the fantasy genre and has been known to blast through a Lord of the Rings book in a few days. He has forgotten to eat, ...
Well, that's a bit melodramatic, but you get my drift. "Eldest" is the second book of the "Inheritance" series, and is a sequel to "Eragon". In "Eragon," we meet the title character, a fifteen-year-old boy, being raised by his uncle in a rural area ...
Eragon is first seen in Chapter 1 as he steps over a twisted and hacked Urgal. Keening women remove loved ones from the blood muddied ground of Farthen Dur. Three days ago the battle raged as Varden and dwarves fought the Urgals for possession of ...
Pros: Good authentic plot, Dragons and fantasy Cons: Too long drawn out, Too slow
Introduction Now that the Harry Potter series is behind me, I decided to go ahead with the Inheritance Trilogy. I had read Eragon and thought that it was an interesting start to the series, though a bit slow. So I got Eldest, the ...
Pros: Excellent pace, several well-turned surprises, phenomenal use of language Cons: Eragon is poorly developed, author "cheats" his way out of a plot problem.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Paolini's work, Eldest is the second book in the Inheritance Trilogy, which began with "Eragon." Eragon is a child in the first book, and we meet him in Eldest as a young man immediately after the close of the ...
Pros: Great story line with likable and realistic characters and interesting plot twists.
Cons: Prevented me from carrying out necessary daily activities because I couldn't put it down.
Eldest is the sequel to the highly acclaimed novel, Eragon. Having read Eragon and greatly enjoyed experiencing Eragon's adventures, I opened Eldest with high expectations. However, I didn't even get very far into the book before I realized that my ...
Pros: Captivating, Exciting, and fulfilling read! Leaves me craving more! Cons: My wife got sick of me reading it!
That's right, the best book I've read all year. Sorry Harry Potter fans (myself included), but Eldest has The Half Blood Prince beat hands down. While I will no doubt read Harry Potter 7 when it is released, Inheritance Book ...
Pros: Flawless. Cons: We have to wait for a couple of years for the conclusion.
A young Tolkien is emerging - Christopher Paolini, with his latest addition to the Inheritance triolgy, the fantasy Eldest, follows in the footsteps of the famed author. With a plotline as thick as an Urgal, Eldest is sure to leave you ...
Pros: Amazing characters, Creative plot, Unique settings Cons: A bit boring in the parts where they're traveling
I finished Eldest, the second book in the Inheritance Cycle. I highly recommend this book! It's GREAT! I actually cried at one part... I loved Eragon, and I'm glad Eldest didn't let me down. I wish they'd continue producing the movies. The Eragon movie ...
Got one thing (for starters) to say: This guy is no Tolkien. Tolkien was original. Tolkien wrote beautiful description. Tolkien created vivid/sympathetic characters. Tolkien invented the modern conception of Elves. Tolkien knew how to write. ...
Pros: Wonderful story, good characters, good messages for kids. Cons: None.
When young adult fiction is good, kids read it. When YA fiction is very good, adults read it before their kids can get to it. The Inheritance series, written by Christopher Paolini, himself a young adult, is very good. My daughter (then ten) received ...
The book was very well written, it captured my attention throughout the whole book. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book and I can't wait to read the next one.Eragon matures so much throughout the book. Saphira also grows up and ...
Pros: None really. The end of Eldest surprised me, though it was like Star Wars. Cons: Unoriginal plot, lifeless character, harrowing vocabulary words.
When I read Eragon and Eldest because a friend said it was "really good," I finished the first without complaint. It wasn't as good as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, but it was something to read and he had a few original ideas in there. The second ...
Hooked, lined and sinking fast! by xreyakx ,Jul 31 '06
Pros: Very detailed, you get really caught up Cons: may miss a meal or two, as well as phone calls
I started reading this series because my nephew pressured me into it. Great, another Harry Potter, still, I trust my nephew's opinion. I started reading the first book, and was getting irritated with how it was written. Just a difficult read, even for me.
After two chapters, and about an hour later, I was completely hooked, reading the rest of the book, and buying the next book the next day. I finished this within the same day.
What an amazing series! I really got into the different lifestyles of all the towns, especially the Elven village. I really loved the way the second book is split into two stories, and was wishing I could pull an Neverending Story, and jump into the book to watch the end take place. It was absolutely amazing. I found myself missing meals, and avoiding all contact until I could finish, savoring every word. You must read these books, in order. I cannot wait for book 3.
