Pros: This is an excellent entry level guitar.
    Cons: None.

Summary: EPIPHONE SG SPECIAL ELECTRIC GUITAR There is certainly no shortage of entry level unknown or little known brand name guitars out there for a beginner to choose from. However, there is clearly a shortage of good recognizable brand name musical ... read more

Pros:  Includes wide range of tones; easy to play durable; clean without distortion, warm with.
Cons: Sustain sucks.  Goes out of tune almost instantly. You get what you paid for.

Summary: If you are just starting out, this is a great guitar to get you into the music you like.  I bought this a year ago whenever I started out, and it was great!  Now, after time, it sounds even better than before!  Nothing has broken yet, and ... read more

Pros: Amazing Price. SG look. Sounds meaty.
Cons: Cheap Tuners. Pickups slightly noisy. Factory setup horrible.

Summary: ***UPDATE 01-07-2004:*** I bought 2 of these and as I was adjusting one of them, I realized that the guitar is stringed wrongly on the high E and B strings. It seems the factory mistakenly put the 9 on the B and the the B on the E. This caused some ... read more

Pros: Price, originality, light weight, beatability!
Cons: Cheap particle board, ugly, hard to rewire.

Summary: Well to be honest this thing was garbage out of the box. Totally junk in the electronics field, cheap strings, pots, and incredibly evil microphonic pickups. So of course being the expert soildering person I am. I set out to make a wonderful axe out of it ... read more

Pros: Good guitar for the price
    Cons: pickup switch is unreliable

    Mar 25, 2003
Pros: Plays really good, very easy to bend a string.
Cons: Goes out of tune a lot.

Summary: The epiphone SG is definetly not one you should preform for more than an hour (Consistent playing). Thats how long it takes for the gutiar to go out of tune. If you are willing to re-tune it all the time, its a good buy. For 180 bucks, it has really ... read more

Pros: Good sound for great price.
    Cons: A little neck heavy.

Summary: The epiphone Sg special is a variation of the original gibson model and has the same sound and quality for a better price. Has a good clean or distorted sound. Has 3 way switching Neck, neck/bridge ,bridge. The double cut awy makes solos easier for ... read more

Pros: Very sleek design and great sound.
    Cons: none

Summary: This is a great guitar. I play it through a Marshall Valvestate 100V, and it sounds better than anything else I have ever heard. I play heavy metal/alternative style music, so I use heavy distortion and it sounds great. It is very easy to play. The neck ... read more

Pros: Clean sound, nice color, good structure.
    Cons: None

Summary: I love the SG, and I wanted an Epiphone this time. I decided on the Special, tested it, and it really sounded clean and bright like a Rickenbacker 360 model. It does great on distortion, and I don't even need a DiMarzio pickup for this to "get some

  • SG "SPECIAL"?

Pros: It is cheap and came with the Allen wrench you need for the truss rod!
Cons: It is hard to tune, will not stay there, and action is SLOW!

Summary: I bought this guitar unseen (email order) as a starter for my son. I played a Gibson SG 20 years ago. This is not the same thing! It has stickers on it set-up in China, checked by QC in USA. The intonation was off. The tuners slip. The 4th string

    Pros: shape, sound, quality, finish
    Cons: there is nothing

Summary: When I first got my epiphone SG i thought that for such a low price like $200 it would be crap and anoying to deal with. I am the owner of three Gibson SG guitars and none of them even come close to sounding as rich, clear or as crisp as the epiphone
