Steam Shark Was Supposed to Steam Clean my Floors?

by shopaholic_man Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Jul 11 '08
Pros: Will probably keep your floor cleaned, so long as its already clean.
Cons: Doesn't do much for actual dirty floors.
If there is an easier way to mop a floor, I want it. Years ago, I had a Steam powered Cleaning machine that was called the shark, but it was damaged in a move. I went looking to replace it, and found the Euro Pro Shark Steam Mop What it ...

Not bad, but thought this Shark would have a bigger bite.

by plkitties , Feb 27 '08
Pros: lightweight, long cord, just uses water, reusable pads, quick drying, easy to assemble
Cons: small tank, hard to push, noisy, price, feels flimsy, steam will strip wax/shine
One of the chores I loathe to do is mopping- the lugging of heavy buckets up and down stairs, water that splashes around while carrying the buckets (sometimes I use bleach water- I cringe every time that water splashes while going up the carpeted ...

Pros: Save money by not buying it
Cons: Everything about it and it's alleged effectiveness.

Effective, green cleaning - Shark delivers!

Pros: Fast-drying, super clean with no nasty chemicals
Cons: I wish the water reservoir was clear, and held a little more
I recently purchased the Shark Steam Mop on a whim at my local Costco for three reasons:1. I hate mopping because I have a very large, open tile space on the main floor, which usually takes 12 years to dry.2. Costco would let me return it ...

A Bissell Wanna-Be Based on A/B Testing

Pros: Light; works OK on light jobs; handle push steam switch easy on fingers.
Cons: Flexes a lot; feels flimsy, especially steam switch; hard to push;  overwhelmed by heavy dirt.
I can title this piece with some authority because we own a Bissell Steam Mop (see my review) and it is the best solution short of hands, knees, and a scrub brush in terms of getting your floor clean. It is so easy to use that we thought we'd get one for ...

Cons: Does not do what the infomercial says it will do.

Had great hopes for this steam mop!!!
by crissy650 ,Apr 29 '08
Pros: Easy to assemble, heats up quickly
Cons: Small water reservoir; hard to push across as pads stick, flimsy handle
Hard to push across the floor, seems to stick at times with the rear of the pad lifting up as I push forward. Additionally, the pad seems to bunch up requiring frequent repositioning.

Kitchen floor is streaky. You have to vacuum before using or it just pushes the dirty black junk into a line (much like xxxbrand does).

Small water reservoir and measuring cup overflows the reservoir. It would be nice to have one a little bigger so you can do more at a time.

Best so far.....
by palmtreecarol ,Jan 30 '08
Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, long cord
Cons: Water streaks but could be my water
I bought this product mainly for my bamboo hardwood floor. I found it very easy to use and it did a good job. It did not require near the physical effort of the Bono System.
I had read some negative reviews but did not have any of the problems that had been expressed. It is not meant to be a vacuum, why they call it that on this site, I do not know. You must vacuum beforehand, just as you would before using any mop. I was concerned about using water on my wood, however, it dries almost instantly. It did leave some water streaks which could be related to my hard water. I will try distilled water in the future.

Great little product that lives up to the ads
by pleasespamme ,Jul 21 '08
Pros: Works without chemicals, is light weight and heats up quickly.
Cons: I would like an on off switch.
We got this to clean our Bruce hardwood floor without chemicals and it works great. This is evident when after cleaning you look at the washable pad. It will be filthy. Cleans up the tough slobber spots that my dog likes to drool all over as well. If there is a tough spot, one just needs to use some elbow grease. This takes a lot less time than using the Bruce hardwood cleaning product, doesn't leave a chemical smell and leaves behind nothing. Now I am not concerned when my dog puts his food on the floor and licks it up off of the bare floor instead of his food dish.

I have found it leaves no streaks on our hardwood flooring but our main concern is cleaning the floor without chemicals. So to be honest streaks, if there were any, would be a minor concern.

The mop heats up very quickly and is ready to use in about 30 seconds.

Comes with two washable pads.

is light weight

has an easy to fill water reservoir.

This product is an extreme time saver over getting down on your hands and knees with the spray product.

Pretty good
by phantomhawk ,Aug 10 '08
Pros: Very light weight. Cleans floors (tile) very clean and dry.
Cons: Feels a little flimsy and cost seems a little high.
Does a pretty good job on our tile floors. Not quite as good on grout lines as we would like but neither does any other cleaner we have used. Best thing is that there is no residue left on the floor. It does seem a bit flimsy but so far no problems. You will definitely want to order more mop pads if you have a large space to clean. We have not tried the carpet attachment and not sure we will.

Does not clean well
by normlynn ,Jul 23 '08
Pros: None
Cons: Low steam, lack of cleaning power.
I purchased the Shark steam mop at the request of my cleaning lady since my tile floors are difficult to clean and show every streak and water spot left behind (would have chosen different tile had I known this). She used one at another client's house with success.

I got mine at Costco, so it came with 5 of the mop head pads, and cost less than what others have said they paid, around $60-70.

Here are the results of my trial run with this mop.

1. It doesn't put out much steam, so the pad doesn't get very wet. Although this helps the floor dry fast, it means the floors don't get clean.

2. This did not clean up smears, smudges, or dirt on the floor--unless I sprayed the floor with a water/floor cleaner solution and then used the steamer.

3. I tested this against my swiffer wet jet & my microfiber regular mop, and both of these got the floors cleaner than the Shark steamer.

4. My cleaning lady agreed that I should return the product as it was not doing a good job when she tested it on my floors.

This will be returned to Costco.

Not bad but could be better
by kabasetr ,Jun 02 '08
Pros: it is easy and light to move around and comes in two diffrent colors.lift
Cons: it does not work on heavy duty work and hard to work on certain floors.
Steam Mop combines the power of hot steam with a triple action micro-fiber pad to loosen, lift and lock dirt in place. Lightweight (3 lbs), easy to operate steam mop uses water so it saves money spent on costly abrasives and is safe on vinyl, linoleum and hardwood floors. Obliterates tough grime, disintegrates scuff marks, melts away sticky messes, and absorbs muddy footprints. Eliminates mop wringing and carrying water bucket. Non-toxic; no chemicals left behind. Features 20', cord and 2 machine washable pads. I like the fact that the euro=pro shark steam Mop is light and easy to handle and move around and the fact that it comes in two different colors to choose from. Keep your floors clean and sparkling with this upright steam mop. Let its steam-releasing design and absorbent triple-action microfiber pad make carrying buckets, rinsing and wringing things of the past. Includes 2 microfiber pads. I recommend if you've been frustrated with every possible type of floor cleaning method out there. I think you'll be pleased.

A Disappointment from Shark
by jnjsmith3703 ,Jul 31 '08
Pros: I didn't pay Retail for it
Cons: Flimsy, Hard to Push, Weak Steam Flow
I had hoped for years that someone would come out with a product that would steam clean hard surface floors throughout the house. When I saw the Shark Steam Mop in our local Warehouse Club I thought I'd give it a try. My expectations were high because Shark products are usually reliable and effective. So .... I put it together, filled it with water, heated it up and attacked my kitchen floor. I was unimpressed. The steam flow was weak, the pad bumped across the floor and the area I worked on showed no improvement. It's not like we're slobs, there was only the occasional spot on the floor from daily wear. It could have at least cleaned them up!!! Not to be deterred, I decided to give it another chance and tried it again tonight. Unfortunately I got the same results. It only seems to work if you stand over a spot, pump the handle like crazy and then move it back and forth. My time is more valuable than that and my floors and I deserve better from this manufacturer. It's going out for sale at our next community yard sale !!!!!

Horrible purchase
by laurie1971 ,Dec 30 '08
Pros: Easy to assemble.
Cons: Hard to push.
Does not clean really good like a $90.00 mop should!
This is the WORSE purchase I have ever made!  I cleaned my pergo floors three times with this and then decided since it was such a pricey purchase to get down on my hands and knees with my pergo floor cleaner and see if it did a good job or not.  The regualr rag that I used before I bought this mop was still just as dirty as if I had never even used the steam mop!!  It feels like if is going to crack into when you are pushing it also!  I also swept the day before and right before I used this so all of that was up off of the floor so this should have been able to clean my floors.

Dissappointed
by kla6265 ,Dec 20 '08
Pros: light weight, long cord, no streaks
Cons: flimsy handle, poor customer service
Purchased short time ago. Followed all directions and was loving using it. After less than a dozen uses it stopped working. I think something died inside. Emails I send are not returned. Going today to purchase a Bissel, their reviews look more favorable.

Steam Mop and Purple Vacuum
by godsworker95 ,Apr 23 '08
Pros: Slim and everything is all in one product.
Cons: I am not sure.
I am not sure how this works but I wish I could say that I did. I think that it would be a good thing to have. You have the steam mop and vacuum all in one. You would never need anything else. You have it all in one slim product. If you are vacuuming and need to mop all you have to do is switch it over and that is all you have to do. It will fit almost any where. You would not need to buy a lot of different cleaning supplies to use.

BOSE QC2 Headphones
by adonner ,Mar 24 '08
Pros: nor sure just yet about its performance
Cons: very flimsy and somewhat difficult to open battery compartment
I recently received the product and noticed that the access to the battery compartment is flimsy and somewhat difficult to open. I feel that it could easily break or wear out very quickly. This is unacceptable for a $300 headphone. It's a poor design and I'm sure not the cause of a low bid Chinese manufacturer. I am planning to use this product on an upcoming long flight and will address its performance after my return.

Horrible!!!
by liaalvar ,Oct 06 '09
Pros: Looks good, steams well
Cons: Too many of them
Don't waste money! The mop is useless. It hasn't been a year since I bought it, and it already stopped working. The pads are hard to wash, residue stays. The mop leaves streaks on the floor.

Shark S3501 - Dead in 2 months
by dutchess1042 ,Sep 17 '09
Pros: None
Cons: Piece of junk
I wanted a steam mop in the worst way, and bought a Shark S3501 after recently moving to a house with tiled floors throughout.

It seemed to work alright - there wasn't anywhere near the amount of steam as the ad shows, but it cleaned admirably.
However, every time I used the mop, it produced less and less steam until it finally ran out of steam (pun intended).

Customer Service has not responded to my e-mails and phone calls. I cannot connect to a human and my messages go unanswered.

I feel scammed. Do not buy this product.
