Pros: Accurate readings, quick and easy to use. Cons: None.
During my children's latest illnesses, I found myself taking their temperatures many, many times, unfortunately waking them up while attempting to use the ear thermometer. I heard that the temporal thermometers were finally available to the public and ...
Pros: don't have to stick it anywhere unpleasant; easy to use; accurate enough; really fast Cons: feedback beeps and lights not clear; no thermometer is 100% accurate
I'm always suspicious of new products that come along and claim they do everything better. There's always a lot of hype and "new" and "improved" and more often than not the words "as seen on TV..." associated with these gadgets, and I tend to ...
Pros: Your kids will beg to have their temperatures taken. No fussy probe covers needed. Cons: Your kids will beg to have their temperatures taken again.
After nearly 5 years of using a regular digital thermometer on my children, I finally broke down and decided to try something better. At first, I thought that would be one of the Ear scanners, but when I went to the store to look for them, I found ...
Pros: None. We returned it because it failed to meet our expectations. It cannot be trusted. Cons: Inaccurate, varied readings, very expensive.
Our 19 month old son has been sick for a few days and has been running fevers throughout the day and night that have reached 105 degrees. Weve taken his temperature so often at this point that our son lets us take his temperature rectally without ...
Pros: Fast, easy, appears to be accurate, inexpensive Cons: Clear cover means you can leave it on and get inaccurate readings
The technology of the Exergen TemporalScanner 200C is pretty cool. The scanner measures the temperature of the room as well as the temperature of the skin over the temporal artery about 1000 times a second as you sweep the scanner across the forehead. ...
Pros: Non-invasive, FAST, accurate Cons: Very sensitive; precise location required; Difficult to find in stores
Taking someone's temperature is a necessity but it has always meant inserting a thermometer SOMEWHERE. With adults and children, oral and ear thermometers are fine. With infants, ear or rectal (ack!).
Pros: Completely Accurate, easy to use, fast, no extra probe covers to buy, non-invasive!! Cons: Display does not illuminate for night-time readings.
With a two-year-old who stubbornly refuses to sit and let me take her temperature either by underarm, or by mouth, and did not like grandpa's thermoscan in the ear--taking a temperature reading had become a battle ground. Something you don't desire wh ...
Pros: Great idea. Cons: Poor execution. Inaccurate. Unreliable.
Wow, am I ever disappointed! I picked up this thermometer when my daughters had mono this spring. After fighting my 2 year old over and over to sit still while I used the underarm thermometer, I bought this in desperation. It seemed like the perfect ...
Pros: Quick and simple. Great concept if it worked. Cons: Not completely accurate, pricey.
I think I would be okay with using this for an adult but not an infant or toddler. I bought it for my son when he was born and thank goodness he hasn't had a fever yet and he is 7 months. I tried this out several times on myself and hubby and each time ...
It REALLY REALLY works!!!!!!!!! by aimsky ,Oct 26 '03
Pros: Easy, fast, exactly accurate, only 1 9 volt battery Cons: no case-just pick up a makeup bag for it-no big deal!
2 weeks ago I bought the ear kind,on the advice of the Pharmacist BIG mistake! I returned that the next day (they have not come a long way) The ear one said my daughter had a 102 temp but I did not believe it. I gave the scanner a try and she was actually 104.8 and it is dead on accurate!!!!!! as accurate as rectal You can do it from every position without disturbing your kids. It takes your temp 1000 times a second and taking the best average also while taking into consideration the room temp. This is the first product (of any kind ) that my husband and I are so excited about. I would recommend this to every parent!!!!!!!
Pros: quick and easy to use Cons: unreliable, undependable, readings vary too greatly to be trustworthy
I found this product to be unreliable and untrustworthy. Temperature readings would very too greatly from one moment to the next. I was extremely careful to use the device (as close to) exactly the same way (as humanly possible) every time I used it BECAUSE the readings were so different.
During my childs last illness readings were wildly different and frightening. Two back to back readings, in the same location (behind the (same) ear lobe) were 105.3 and 101.2. One meant that I needed to take my child to the hospital, and the other meant that he just needed lots of TLC and fever reducer. I can not trust this product and feel as though I wasted the nearly $40 that I spent on it.
The only thermometer for infants by hackamada ,Mar 11 '05
Pros: The only thermometer which works with babies!!! Cons: Accuracy is about 0.3 Fahrenheits
When my son (12 month) was sick I was not able to measure his temperature. He was not able to tolerate underarm and rectal thermometers and ear thermometers measured nothing (accuracy was extremely bad - 1-2 Fahrenheits). I tried this one and it works pretty fine. It is easy to use, does not cause my son to cry and gives pretty constant measurements (with accuracy about 0.3 Fahrenheits).
Both Toddler and I Agree: This is Wonderful! by blu_canary ,Jul 04 '07
Pros: Quick, accurate, non-invasive. Cons: Should have made the cap a different color than clear.
I've now run the complete gamut of temperature taking devices with my daughter. Temporal is the only way to go. I've tested it on myself numerous times, followed up with an oral temperature to double check it and the Exergen has never been more than a couple of tenths off. (Well, as long as I remembered to remove the clear cap first. If you leave the cap on, which is easy to do while sidetracked with a sick kid, the temperatures are low and vary wildly.)
I ordered the Exergen during my daughter's most recent illness and wish I had had it at the beginning instead of just the end. She was running temps around 105F and with the stupid ear thermometer (name brand and highly reputable) I could get an accurate reading only if I alternated taking her temp in each ear, three times each. Then I would take the highest reading. Yes, 6 times the kid had to go through that every time I took her temp.
Now, two quick scans and I'm done. (Once as a double check.) She's happy and that makes for a happier, less stressed mommy.
Very accurate - is you know what you are doing by imgoophy ,Aug 16 '07
Pros: Accurate Cons: very sensitive and expensive
People that state it is inaccurate did not follow they proper way to register it. My son gets sick often and I'd take his temp to tell the doctor when I call. When he goes into the office and it was taken it was within .2 degrees - yes point two degrees. I will say you need to follow the specific way to have it register accurately - for it's very sensitive. I bought this one over the ear one after doing much research. I also spoke with several different medical workers, who highly recommended it. I also bought early enough to play with it and learn it's proper manner. Worth the money.
Huge help with a sick and cranky kid! by bethmc2 ,Sep 10 '07
Pros: Accurate, easy, much less bothersome to small child Cons: A little pricey--$50.00
We just got one of these today after reading the reviews here. Our toddler has been sick for five days and we got tired of putting up with the wailing every single time we took his temperature. I'm glad we decided to try it. It's very easy to use and pretty non-invasive as the package describes. Just to check its reliability, my husband and I used it on ourselves several times in a row to see if we would get each get consistent readings. The readings varied by only two or three tenths of a degree. You get a reading in like, a second. I also like that the temperature reading stays on the LCD window for 30 seconds so you can leave your kid's dark bedroom and then read it in the light.
Wasted money and dangerous by moodybleu ,Oct 13 '08
Pros: Easy to use and store. Cons: Unreliable and dangerous for accurate readings on a sick infant.
My 5 month old grandson had a fever so high the bottoms of his feet were beet red and his eyes were glazed over yet this thermometer read 98.4 consistantly. How dreadful that parents would take a chance by believing the results they get from this product. Very scarey.
