Great kitchen tool

by merrymousies , Aug 10 '02
Pros: Safe to use, easy to clean, lots of options for cooking
Cons: none so far
I just received my pressure cooker last week and have been cooking with it almost every day to take it for a good test run. I love it! I remembered my italian grandparent's pressure cooker and my grandfather always shouting out "Rosy's using the...

adding my voice

by elizjohn , Feb 01 '08
Pros: Veggies retain their unique flavor. Meats are incredibly tender. Cooking is fast and easy.
Cons: It breaks after just a few uses regardless of time owned.
When it works it is very, very good. When it quits it is horrid. As every reviewer who has had the product for any length of time has found, the joy is short lived and there is no recourse. Please take heed that this product is sold under several brands. ...

Farberware FPC800V Overheating Problem
by cheflarry ,Dec 06 '03
Pros: Large, easy to use and clean, cooks perfectly
Cons: High failure rate
I have had to return two Farberware FPC800V electric pressure cookers because they failed to regulate the pressure after some use.

When operating properly the unit is wonderful. It is large, easy to operate, easy to clean and cooks beautifully.

Unfortunately, both of the units I purchased stopped controlling the pressure and would overheat. Both failures occurred after several months of successful use.

The problem may be related to the fact that each unit had been operated once without the top being locked. Some time afterward the unit stopped working.

Love my electric pressure cooker!
by chakatania ,Feb 16 '05
Pros: No burnt meals. Healthy way to cook. Timer. Low & High setting. Good instruction/recipe book.
Cons: Inner pot heavy for cleaning. Recommend the 4 quart unit for lighter weight & convenience.
Because of the "electric" timer I no longer "burn" or take the chance of "burning" the house down by getting preoccupied by other things. You can also time it to cook later. I've had no problems with mine. Meals are healthier and tastier because of the pressure cooking format. I recommend highly.

Product Failed
by mander57 ,Dec 18 '03
Pros: Do not have to watch like standard cookers.
Cons: Product failed after only four uses.
Purchased this product in November 2002. About one week AFTER the one-year warranty expired, the product failed completely. Manufacturer did not offer to repair, but to replace at 50% of retail which is about what it sells for at wholesale online. We only used the product about four times. One benefit was that you did not have to watch it constantly like a standard pressure cooker, but it was very slow to get up to pressure.

great product, short life, poor value
by joseiw ,Oct 29 '06
Pros: "great when it works"
Cons: "doesn't work all the time"--now, it works none of the time
Add my voice to the "great when it works" camp. Mine died after one year, with at least bi-weekly or monthly use. Mine was out of warranty, and now I am looking for another with similar features but a different brand.

Excellent!
by earth1 ,Mar 23 '04
Pros: Cooks great food, set it and forget it, safe, I use it once a week.
Cons: None really.
This wonderful appliance brings pressure cooking into the 21st century. I use it once a week, and I have every possible kitchen appliance. Get a few Lorna Sass cookbooks, make her "Curry in a Hurry" and other great recipes, and find out how a pressure cooker with a timer, a warm setting, a browning setting and other features will add to your cooking tools. It's just plain wonderful. I've been cooking for 40 years and this is one of the few gadgets--like a microwave oven, a food processor, a crock pot--that really get used all the time because they do a great, and unique, job with food! Get this one, or its smaller version.

by dugan007 ,Jan 02 '07
Pros: Nice looking
Cons: Don't work after second use.
We have had Fabberware model FPC 800V for 2 years, that was used today for the second time. Guess what it quit working, called the company and was told they would send me one for $100.The cooker looks new and is. Why would I want to pay $100 for a piece of junk? I have written a letter to Consumer Report and to they AZ Attorney General.

How did I manage without it before?
by nikigibson ,Apr 14 '05
Pros: Easy to use, safe, easy to clean and cut cooking time by 70%.
Cons: A bit heavy when you have to drain off the fat.
I bought this about 2 weeks ago and used it at so much that now it sits on my counter all the time. Imagine cooking BBQ ribs in 20 minutes and boy is it so tender and flavorful! Lamb shanks in 25 minutes and just fell off the bones. Also great for spaghetti sauce, 10 minutes and it tastes like I slow cooked it all day.

Didn't last long
by pat_the_artist ,Sep 28 '05
Pros: Cooks fast and built like a tank.
Cons: Electronics are very delicate.
We bought this six months ago and finally worked up enough guts to try it for the first time last week and made a fairly good chicken stew. Still need to work on my timing. Last night I bought four artichokes that were so large I had to cook two at a time. The first two came out great. In the middle of the second two something went Pop! and the pressure cooker quit working. I plugged it in this morning and still no go. This is very disappointing. Maybe it's why you don't see as many people selling these as you did back when we bought ours.

John a retired gentleman
by scl0ve ,Jul 22 '05
Pros: Easy cleaning and everything comes out delicious.
Cons: the cooker is heavy for this old man.
I love my 8-Quart pressure cooker. I am single and really do not need and 8QT. But like Mama said you can always add more to a big pot than a small one. My country ribs comes out terrific. I had to send it back once. If I had trouble again I still would get another one. So I give it 5 stars.

Died after only 8 uses
by jules817 ,Apr 03 '06
Pros: WHEN IT WORKS... safer than a stovetop model and timer is nice.
Cons: Short life span, waste of money for the number of uses...
I lovED it... WHEN it worked. The pressure cooker knob that adjusts from Pressure, clean or steam just fell off. Now a bolt or something is rattling around in the lids plastic housing unit and in order to fix it, I have to send it in to a certified electrician. By the time I send it in, have it fixed and shipped back to me, I could have already bought another one. I should have known something was wrong when it wasn't pressurizing correctly and it was taking longer than expected to properly cook my roast. If you do the math, I spent over 20 dollars for each use since I only used it 8 times. BUYERS BEWARE! Invest in a stovetop pressure cooker and save yourself a lot of money.

Great---for its short working life
by johnniebravo1 ,Nov 09 '05
Pros: Very easy to use, works extremely well while it worked.
Cons: Extremely short life span, and no repair centers locally.
I bought one of these 8-qt cookers last Spring (2005). I used it about once every couple of weeks, until one day late summer (2005)it just stopped working. No lights, no indication at all. Could not find any external fuse (which would be a good idea before catastrophic failure occurs internally). I can't find anyone around who can repair it. I think I'm going to get my mom's old Mirro cooker and use the stove top style. This was a terrific product, and I loved using it---I only wish it had a measurable life span.

Before it broke...
by exalibur ,Jun 26 '07
Pros: When working, quite nice and delivered. Very quick and easy to use.
Cons: The only Con is that it is exceptionally unreliable. You have been warned.
The cooker worked great for about 3 uses and was super. What a great concept! I'd write more, but being stuck with such an expensive appliance after it working only three times takes the edge off my glee. It was quite a waste of money.

Works great when it works.
by litha7 ,Jan 31 '06
Pros: Quick, wholesome meals.
Cons: Dies after about 8 months.
Well here we go again, this is my third, yes third Farberware 8qt programmable pressure cooker and the last. I love this appliance, good quick, wholesome meals but the thing does not last long, on average about 8 months. Get your act together Farberware or whoever actually manufactures these applicances. You can find the same thing under many different names, smells the same, is the same, different names such as Farberware, Cooks Essentials, Hoobs and so on.

So far the exact same problem occured, it just quits pressuerizing. No rhyme or reason, just one day you get ready for a great meal and whamo, gone, done, nada. Sits there blinks at you, counts down then when you think your meal is ready you open it up and guess what, hot raw food, yummy,,,,NOT.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!
by graceelaine ,May 18 '05
Pros: WHEN IT DID WORK, IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL THING!
Cons: I FEEL THIS PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MARKET.
I OWNED TWO OF THESE AND BOTH FAILED COMPLETELY AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I THOUGHT THE FIRST ONE FAILING WAS JUST A FLUKE. APPARENTLY IT WAS NOT AS THE SECOND PRESSURE COOKER DID THE EXACT SAME THING THIS VERY DAY (05/18/05). IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I PLUG IT IN, NOTHING HAPPENS. THE LDC DOES NOT LIGHT UP AT ALL. PUSHING THE BUTTONS DOES NOTHING. VERY FRUSTRATING,ESPECIALLY FOR THE SECOND TIME. AFTER READING THE OTHER EVALUATIONS ON THIS SITE I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THERE IS A BASIC DEFECT WITH THIS PRESSURE COOKER. IT JUST RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. HOW CAN FARBERWARE GET AWAY WITH MAKING SUCH A SHODDY PRODUCT AND SELLING IT AS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PRESSURE COOKER ON THE MARKET.

Too bad they don't stay working
by tangible1 ,Aug 14 '05
Pros: Works well when it works.
Cons: Maybe that's why there are so many refurbished ones for sale.
When it worked it worked great, but just like some of the others users, mine went kaput after 8 months.

Farberware Pressure Cooker FPC800V stopped heating
by jimmy1989 ,Jan 09 '08
Pros: Would be great if it worked
Cons: Doesn't work
Just like the other 11 reviews here that are negative, my cooker stopped working after only a few uses, but outside of the one year warranty period. Salton is the manufacturer, and does not stand by their products outside of the warranty period. Case in point: On the back of the instruction manual, the blurb under "Out-of-Warranty Service" says, 'A flat rate charge by model is made for out-of-warranty service. Include $10.00 for return shipping. We will notify you by mail of the amount of the charge for service and require you to pay in advance for the repair or replacement.' When I called Salton Consumer Services and offered to pay for the repairs, they told me that no Salton products can be repaired, as all manufacturing is now overseas. Wow, way to stand behind your products, guys. I also have a Salton yogurt maker (YM9 model) that stopped heating after two uses. Junk, Junk, Junk is the theme here.
