Pros: Comfortable, effective; easy to replace/sharpen blades if needed. Cons: Not inexpensive.
I 'inherited' a number of gardening tools and implements when I bought my house, but good hand tools must be selected. I had heard of Felco pruners in a magazine article by someone who gardened for a living, so I specifically looked for the brand. And,...
Pros: Easy on the hands, Completely serviceable Cons: Price. The swivel is a luxury. I could have easily gone with a #2
I was debating between the #2 and the #7. Is the rotation handle really worth it? Felcos cut so well and so cleanly that if you aren't pruning a lot you probably don't need the rotational handle. But when I'm working with a group everyone always asks to borrow my #7 first. I also bought the #12 (swivel handle smaller beak) for my mother for regular garden work...she appreciates the handle because she has mild arthritis and it really seems to take less effort to use. The #7 can prune some big stuff, but the #12 can prune anything that you wouldn't need a pruning saw for. One issue when it got a bit dull (I use it on a professional basis) the swivel handle actually slid off when it was under pressure on particularly stringy wood. The handle clicked right back into place and once I sharpened it, no more problems. Perhaps it should be a feature it tells you when you really need to sharpen the blade.
I really didn't like this product. by gardenerbob ,Sep 08 '07
Pros: It's a Felco Cons: Rotating Handle may irritate your hand muscles.
As a professional gardener, I have used Felco product for my entire career. For years, the Felco 2 was the leader in the world of hand pruners(secataurs, if you will).
Over the past few years, Felco has been adding to their offering with 'new and improved models'.
In my opinion, the Felco 7 (& 10) are not improvements at all.
The rotating handle seems to be the cause of a hand cramp that I never had, until I started using the Felco 7. I told another gardener and he a related similar experience and has since moved on to another model (one with a long handle, a Felco 13, if I recall).
I have since been using the Felco 8, which is a Felco 7 without the rotating handle, and have been completely satisfied.
