Pros: Short, packed with thought provoking ideas. Cons: I didn't like the ending as much as in the movie.
How many of you have jobs you hate so you can buy s**t you don't need?

Shortly before the movie was released I decided to read the book.
I was thoroughly blown away (no pun intended) I actually sat there shaking my head saying "wow" when it was all over.
Pros: I frank, interesting look on life. Very suspenseful , catching, and fun. Cons: Unusual style of writing that takes a while to get used to.
I absolutely loved the movie and actually now own the DVD and have seen it various times. I had not learned that it was based on a book until a few months after I had seen the movie first. And when I did learn of the book, I bought it immediately.

I loved the movie Fight Club. And if you did to the bank was amazing as well. I dont usually read many books but i made and exception for Fight Club. Palahniuk has done an amazing job portraying our corrupt modern day society based around material...
This book is a definate one to put on your reading list because the intellect and dialouge that the author uses is at writing's utmost best. The characters are well defyed and the book is interesting and is never long in any part. It's always interesting...
Pros: Nice social commentary, interesting facts and information, powerful writing Cons: Pretty violent (a con for some)
I live in Portland, OR and have heard the praises of Mr. Palahniuk a few times, so I sought out Fight Club. I could not put the book down until I had finished it (well, except to sleep once, but that doesn't count, does it?!?!). I found...

"Fight Club Is A Great Black Satirical Novel Written In A Non-linear Way " by zenmachado ,Oct 29 '06
Pros: Funny, Funny, Funny... and analyzes our mainstream culture in a fine way. Cons: His non-linear way of scribbling his story.. ruined my fun time
"Fight Club" is funny and introspective, and is filled with adult content and profanity.
Fight Club, movie or the book, is darkly funny and a display of beautiful satire. It's a delight to experience the dialog of frustration over a job that sucks. I viewed the movie, with Pitt and Norton, it was fresh and captivating. It was funny, dramatic, and violent. When reading the book it was exactly like reading the screenplay. Understood, the book came first, but still, after experiencing the movie (a photo copy of the book..). nothing was left, that was fresh, for me to enjoy. The movie is great, because it mirrors the novel.. apart from a few portions that were omitted. My only dislike of the novel, was Palahntuk's use of a writing form that while interesting and creative, it was fantastically difficult to follow. It pained me, to not be able to follow the book, because it holds splendid material. It speaks of our mainstream culture in hilarious ways. It also has the best type of black satiric comedy. So, while it was original and memorable... I actually had a difficult time finishing it. Which stole much of my enjoyment.
Fight Club: Cynicism of Cynicists by coverthitman ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: Clever, funny, addictive Cons: Gimmick is the word
I've read the book, I've watched the movie, I've made napalm out of orange juice. This book is smart, funny and above all else, clever. However, what it also does is trip over Chuck's gimmicky sentence structure, the writer's only speed block. This same problem follows him into his other stories as well and you can easily see it in "Survivor" and "Choke". It's the same with his characters, all self-loathing, pitiful people that demand no sympathy and seldom get much from the reader. However, seeing as this is his best novel, I'll just rate the rest worse off of this trend.
A lot of people read this book and also misunderstand it. It takes a lot of time setting up this philosophy of anarchy, but when this idea turns into a belief, into a cultish dogma, it turns sour, but I think a lot of people are losing sight that the author is cutting down these beliefs after raising them so high. He doesn't fail at doing this, but this denouncement will get lost because you're still too wrapped up in wanting to fight someone yourself!
