Pros: energy efficient, not overly expensive, gets clothes nearly dry when finished. Cons: cheaper looking lid, but won't rust.
I bought my Fisher & Paykel washer in 2004 for $599. It has been wonderful. I have six people in my family including 4 playful children, who generate a lot of dirty clothing. This washer can handle the loads. I wash nearly every day and since purchasing ...
Pros: large capacity, stainless steel drum, preset wash cycles with overrides, 2 year warranty Cons: even though stability is good there is a slight rocking motion during spin cycle
I had to replace my 8 year old machine a month ago because the drum braking system was worn out. This washer is better than average and is top loading which saves hurting the back that is possible with the currently advertised, top of the line front ...
Pros: Huge stainless tub. Really cuts drying time due to spin technology. Very quiet. Cons: Wellwater pressure MAY be a problem. Fabric softener didn't dispense thru clothes like conventional machines.
I'm not sure I can give a fair review of the F&P GWL15 since I had problems 80% of the time I owned it. (only 8 weeks!) However, I want to encourage potential buyers who's water is supplied by a WELL SYSTEM with LESS than GOOD WATER PRESSURE to ...
Pros: High spin cycle. Large capacity. Cons: Needs self-leveling legs. Can only get "hot" cycle if you use permanent press cycle.
When our Kenmore dryer died on us after only 3 years I decided I needed to do some research before buying this time. We wanted the washer & dryer to match because they are on the main floor of our home so we bought this washer with the matching dryer. ...
Pros: Big compacity, good price, stainless steel tub, spins clothes really well. Cons: Electrical malfunction. It only likes powder soaps. Fabric softeners are not recommended.
After carefully researching all the washing machines and their reviews I decided to buy the Fisher and Paykel. I have had the washer since May of 2005. Today March 30,2008 it took a dive. It all started after I washed a fairly light load, then I smelled ...
Pros: Energy efficient, Less drying time, all around great machine Cons: Plastic lid, no timed bleach dispenser, not much else
Fisher and Paykel washer Let me start by saying a little about myself. I have sold appliances for quite A while. Not only have I tried, but I also own many of the appliances I review. I also take service calls, so I hear which appliances have the ...
Pros: A real energy saver, cloths ring out dry as a bone. Cons: High speed spin does cause cloths to wrinkle more.
Upon reading these reviews on here, I am somewhat amazed at how negative some of them are. How can some people have such a bad experience compared to others? One reviewer even saying their cloths were shredded? How did the machine do this I ask ...
Pros: Large capacity, manual override of automatic water level. Cons: Shreds clothing and towels, leaks water onto the floor.
My husband and I just purchased this machine in November of 2007 to replace a 2yr old Kenmore that had also given us problems. After countless hours of reading conflicting reviews for all of the washers available on the market today, we chose to go with ...
Pros: Customizable presets, powerful spin, good detergent distribution Cons: Spin noise - although this doesn't really bother us.
We purchased this washer in June 2006 as we knew we needed a good washer for the addition of baby laundry, including cloth diapers. This Fisher Paykel is Awesome! I don't rave about appliances often but this is by far the best washer I've ever used. We ...
Pros: Clothes spin nearly dry. Cons: Water and suds on the floor!
We have owned this Fischer & Paykel washer for 11 months. The F&P set replaced our Frigidaire front loader set which did not allow us to determine the water level used for washing. We like our laundry without detergent residue. We get clean laundry ...
Pros: Came with five year parts warranty, eco friendly, easy to use. Cons: Breaks down easily, parts are hard to obtain.Few repairmen know how to service.
I have owned the Fisher and Paykel EcoSmart washer and dryer since July 2002. The dryer is a fairly reliable appliance; it has only needed to be serviced once in the time I have had it (the seal on the door needed to be replaced to keep lint from spewing ...
Pros: Decreased gas bill for hot water and water bill. Cons: Lid locks once it is on and requires stopping to open it.
We purchased this washer a little over a year ago at Lowes and had only one slight problem with it. It turned out to be a safety pin with lint stuck in the diverter valve (I repaired it myself). This washer is a lot easier to repair than regular top ...
Fisher&Paykel GWL15 Clothes Washer by cattail ,Oct 24 '06
Pros: Quiet, extreme water removal, easy to operate, long warranty,
Cons: Plastic lid, water sprays inside top cover, drain hose hard fit
Bought machine strictly based on reviews online and store research. Main factors 2 year warranty, motor technology. Have run machine several times and it performs great. Last machine was a Hotpoint that lasted 20 years under moderate to heavy abuse and two cross country moves. Most complaints about this machine in past reviews seem to have been corrected. I live in two hundred year old home and worried about the spin cycle deconstructing my home, not a problem. It shimmies way less than the Hotpoint. Energy saved on reduced dryer time is major plus. Simple for 46 year old to operate.Plastic lid makes me uneasy around an 8 year old that climbs on everything.Extreme spin speed causes water to be deposited inside top of lid. That may be the reason F&P opted for plastic instead of metal?? Drain hose design seems to not be standard for American market as it doesn't fit into standpipe well enough without some modification. Pros definitely outweigh any cons on this machine. So happy with this I now want to buy an intelligent dryer.
Pros: Energy saving, top loading, quiet, time saving options. Cons: I am still a little questionable of a digital display.
We bought this machine two months ago and have put it through constant use and it has performed wonderfully. I think it runs quiet compared to our old top loading Maytag. It also seems to have more wash options then our old machine did. I especially like the time saver option. I have washed everything from baby clothes to silks to heavy blankets and all have come out excellent. I have found that clothes need less time in the dryer. Although it's only been two months with the new machine, I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: Space saver, quick complete wash cycle, Cons: might not get everything clean
I like the machine and actually like the sounds it makes throughout its cycles - so unlike an American machine. It operates differently, the mechanicals that work it are unlike those in standard US made machines. It's not loud, just different.
However, I noticed that it uses so little water that occasionally not every bit of fabric gets wet - so it doesn't get cleaned. That is not because I overloaded it, it happens with regular loads.
I suspected that might be the case, so I watched a normal load go through - two twin sheets and some pillow cases - by peaking under the lid several times and saw a pillow case that never got entirely wet during the wash part. It eventually got wet in the spin cycle, so had I not been monitoring the load I would not have known the pillow case never actually got washed.
only had one problle with this washer in 3 years by tootal2 ,Aug 29 '09
Pros: easy to fix Cons: my dog hides under the bed when its running
This washer seems very good. and i work in a machine shop and i get oil on my cloths. and it cleans most of it off. If i use soak mode it gets it all off.
My washer stopped draining good this week and it started to make some kind of noise. I thought i was going to spend 200.00 to get it fixed. But a laid it down on the floor and took the hose off the pump and found a penny in it. I took the penny out and now it runs good.
make sure you take your coins out of your cloths before you use the washer!
Pros: Easy to use, plenty of settings, gets clothes clean, fast spin cycle and a great value. Cons: It is not the prettiest looking machine nor does it look high tech.
after a horrible experience with a Maytag front loading machine. (see review under Maytag) We purchased this Fisher Paykel. This is a great washing machine that does everything that they say it does. It is easy to use has a large capacity and gets clothes almost dry. Great price too!
Pros: Cleans well (when it works), seems to cycle quickly which saves a lot of time Cons: Falls apart, needs constant maintenance, few service techs in USA
We purchased a new home and this machine came part of the home appliance package. Not only has this machine cause thousands of dollars in damage to the home (e.g. water spilling over), but we have spent literally hundreds of dollars in troubleshooting everything from the pump to the motor. I'm not impresses with the Fisher Paykel support and especially their technicians. We still have no resolution to the issues and have opted simply to purchase a new machine without a problem.
I had my Kenmore machine for 13 years and it STILL was running when we built this house. I am so frustrated that I can't help but warn users that this machine is a pile of crap.
Whips the new HE4t driers from Sears! by yahtzee1004 ,Mar 15 '07
Pros: Quiet;Cleans excellent;and low energy cost.Stainless tub. Cons: Lid looks cheap;but it will never rust. That's all for now.
We bought the HE4t from our local Sears store first; even though I read they had problems with excessive vibration. Well the stories are true. I had it back at the store in 1 hour.
Now it was my choice. After I had researched the Fisher & Paykel washer and dryers I had made up my mine. My wife thought they looked a little cheesy. But after doing about 8 loads in it she was very impressed with how clean the clothes came out and how dry they were. And I was impressed with the quietness being our room is against the laundry room. We haven't found any negatives about the machine yet. The plastic lid does look cheap; but at 250lbs I laid across it to hook up the hoses and it didn't give. They are also compact. The washer only uses 223kwh. Compared to 400-430 on other top load like maytag oasis.
No-nonsense Washing Machine by mntundra ,Sep 13 '07
Pros: Uses less water, spins clothes effectively Cons: shakes a bit on high spin setting
We bought the EcoSmart about a month ago and it has been meeting all our expectations. It gives the clothes a thorough wash and the spin cycle does a nice job of wringing them out.
The preset cycles are a nice feature on the machine and also allow the user to make adjustments to temperature and spin speed if desired.
During the spin cycle, I have noticed the machine does shake a bit on the highest setting, but the machine footings do not move.
Overall I have found it to be a well built machine and hopefully it will be a workhorse for years to come.
I HATE my Fisher& Paykel washer ecosmart GWL15 &DGGX2 Dryer. by ihmfp ,Jun 18 '07
Pros: None Cons: Takes twice as long
Dryer take forever to stop
Clothes come out wrinkled
They are awful! Takes 4 ever to wash & dry. Clothes come out so wrinkled. I could write so much, but not enough room. The company could care less about my complaints. Won't return my calls. I wish I never bought them. My old Sears W/D were 100 X's better. My advice, don't buy them they are terrible.
Pros: small in overall size but the drum is big Cons: This brand is not one that people know. Some people won't like the plastic lid.
I bought this machine for $509 at the Sears Outlet. It is so smart! The spin cycle saves a lot on the dryer time. I don't know what that means in energy dollars but it saves time for me. I have three kids and time savers are a must. I do several loads a day and I am looking forward to using this machine for a long time. It has "delay" cylcles just like my dishwasher. The lid lock is a great feature. It can wash comforters and sleeping bags with ease. The water softener feature is great. No more of those fabric softener containers!I can't wait to buy the dryer when mine goes out!
great washer, low energy usage by boilers78 ,Oct 09 '06
Pros: low water usage, low detergent usage Cons: clothes are almost too dry when the load is done
This is a top load machine that uses energy like a front loader. It uses very little water and very little detergent compared to our old top loader. The clothes come out of the machine so dry, relatively speaking, that the dryer can keep up with the washer now. But it also means that clothes left in the washer a little while have more of a tendency to wrinkle. The washer spins so fast in the spin cycle that it sounds like a jet engine winding up in the distance. That can be a little disconcerting the first few times. The panel has lots of lights and lots of sounds, which is also a little confusing at first.
Poor Electronics on Fischer and Paykel by fatmiclav ,Apr 19 '08
Pros: Good paper weight Cons: Terrible design
I have had my Fisher and Paykel washer for less than a year and the push buttons to control the machine have already failed. Since the electric panel has failed, there is no way to turn the machine on or off. A terrible design for what should be a simple machine.
Smart washing machine saves electric, water and time by kearsarger ,Feb 25 '08
Pros: The fast spin is awesome- my dry time is cut in half! Cons: none.
I love my new F & P EcoSmart Washer! It replaced a 22 year old GE that I was quite attached to. I bought the Fisher and Paykel because of the energy efficiency, the 2 year warranty (not the standard 1 year on all the other brands), and good word of mouth. I also like the direct drive concept where the less parts there are the fewer things that can go wrong. This is a washer that just makes sense. From everything I've experienced thus far I would suggest it to friends & family.
Pros: High speed spin cycle, cleans clothes very well. Cons: No separate bleach dispenser. Only three time delay options.
I purchased the Fisher Paykel approximately two months ago and I am very satisfied with this washer. It replaced my Maytag Neptune top loader (which I hated - very long wash cycles, twisted clothes, leaving clothes very wrinkled, did not clean clothes well). The Fisher Paykel cleans clothes very well. High speed spin cycle reduces drying time. The washing machine does what it suppose to - cleans clothes without damaging them. It is quiet and easy to use. I wish it had a separate bleach dispenser and more than three time delay options (1 hr, 3 hrs, and
9 hrs.)
CONSTANTLY BREAKING DOWN by cheriroemer ,Feb 14 '08
Pros: DIFFERENT TYPE OF CLEANING OPTIONS Cons: BREAKS DOWN CONSTANTLY
SINCE I PURCHASED MY FISHER AND PAYKEL TOP LOAD WASHER IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A PAIN, WAS TOLD THIS MACHINE WOULD HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF LOAD THAT I WASH WEEKLY, INSTEAD IT IS COMING UP WITH ERROR CODES THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A REPAIRMAN TO COME OUT AND FIX. I FEEL I WAS MISLEAD THAT THIS MACHINE COULD HANDLE HEAVY LOADS AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE BEST ON THE MARKET BY A LOWES SALES ASSOCIATE. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE MACHINE FIXED SEVERAL TIMES, WHICH IS FUSTRATING BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG...DUE TO THE CODES. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS WASHER OR ANY OTHER PAYKEL AGAIN.
I just bought this today, so far so good by terrycoxusa ,Aug 29 '06
Pros: user friendly, stainless tub, low water usage, quiet, innovative, easy access. Cons: have to pull the top off the agitator to add detergent
I just bought this today to replace a 5 year old
GE washer with a burned out motor. I bought a scratched one at Lowe's for $500, which was $100 off the regular price. I took it home, hooked it up and ran two loads of laundry through it, and it works great. The high speed spin really does dry the clothes out quite a bit more, and the stainless steel tub looks durable. I have a family of six, so this machine will get a good workout. This washer has a direct drive motor and few moving parts, but it has a complex electronic system, so I will update this review after I have used it for a while. It has a somewhat rounded plastic top, which I think looks fine, but a little different.
Wouldn't Trade for Anything! by demonsdaisy ,Feb 03 '09
Pros: High spin speeds, less detergent usage, less wash time. Cons: none
I bought my Fisher at Donkers Hometown Appliances. That was the best purchase I have ever made! It does everything I want it to do and I can also wash my kingsize heavy comforters in it with no problems whatsoever. I have 7 ppl in my family, and can get the laundry done in no time at all. Noone could every get me to stop using my fisher. When this dies I WILL DEFINATELY BUY ANOTHER ONE!!!!
The best machine for the price EVER by k1p2k1p2 ,Nov 03 '07
Pros: Delayed timer for areas with variable hourly power rates. Waterlevel sensing--saves more power, resources, time. Cons: Would love an MP3 player built in....I don't know...can't think of any cons.
We find this machine to be quiet, attractive, efficient, effective, economical, and inexpensive compared to other models we looked at. If there were a 6th star, that's what we'd give it! GREAT JOB FISHER & PAYKEL!!
Pros: Stainless steel drum. Water and energy conservation. Cons: Didn't clean that great. Was noisy. Clothes didn't rinse completely; still smelled.
I just tried the ecosmart, and returned it to Lowes. I really wanted this washer to work out, because I loved the concept of the top-load dryer I purchased with it. However, the clothes did not come out that great. While you have some control on the water level, the machine is very conservative. While great for water conservation, I felt the cleaning was compromised. As well, I could smell the detergent long after I dried the clothing. I felt it didn't have enough water to fully rinse out. The design is nice (it made friendly beeping sounds, so we called it R2D2), but the engineering is lacking.
