Perfect For beginners

by golin , Jun 12 '02
Pros: Extremely comfortable, long lasting
Cons: not very clean,hot,
I would say this shoe is the classic first shoe for a climber. It was my first shoe and I was indeed very happy with it.

The Five Ten Spire is extremely comfortable for a climbing shoe. It is a "straight built" shoe and therefore offers more...

Almost didn't bother to write this!

by climb , Feb 02 '00
Pros: Good basic rock climbing shoe at a good price.
Cons: Not high performance.
I almost didn't write this review because I noticed that the couple existing reviews already seemed to capture the basic essence of the Five-Ten Spire. It is a great, comfortable, all around climbing shoe ... no tricks, no gimmicks, no fancy do-dads ......

Super value, super shoe

by Jeremy_Gentry , Oct 05 '99
Pros: Value, comfort, performance
Cons: purple color
Cheap, great performance and extremely comfortable. Like all climbing shoes little stiff when you first get them, but after a couple of trips I can leave them on all day. I was a little worried about buying a cheaper pair of shoes, but I was assured...

my first rock shoes

by ksleskov , Jul 27 '05
Pros: Sticky rubber, moderately priced, last long
Cons: Poor edging, stretch a lot, come only in purple
I had no idea what I wanted when I was buying my first rock shoes. Well, I guess, the price was the biggest factor. I ended up choosing between 5.10 Spire and La Sportiva Mythos. Put Spire on one foot, Mythos on the other and went to the climbing wall. ...

good ROCK shoe

by waszabee , Jun 13 '01
Pros: Good midrange shoe, low cost, great feel
Cons: dye feet purple when new
This is a great shoe for virtually any climber's ability. The stiffness and sensitivity of the shoe are moderate and make good rock shoes for climbing outdoors. The sticky rubber works well for small holds and smearing. This also tends to result in...

Good Shoe For the Beginner

by carletonj , Mar 15 '02
Pros: Cheap, Decent Feel
Cons: They Stretch
I've had my Spires for going on a year and a half now. They've worked well for the price, but the sole has self destructed, leaving absolutely no support in the shoe, making them rather painful to climb in after a couple of hours, at least until you feet...

All the performance you want

by TerriTucker , Oct 03 '00
Pros: performance
Cons: They don't gre with your foot
The Five-Ten Spires are the best all round climbing shoes on the market. I bought these about a year and a half ago and have not had a problems with them since and I climb quite frequently. The Spires are comfortable for the long all day climbs and give...

Good all around shoe
by jppsirus1 ,Jan 24 '07
Pros: Good beginner to intermediate shoe
Cons: Laces occasionally come untied.
The Spire is a great all around sport and trad climbing shoe. The sole is fairly stiff for decent edging, though certainly not the top of this category. The rubber has been great on different types of rock, I have never doubted my ability to smear, and I weigh 220lbs! The fit is comfortable enough, as far as climbing shoes go.
