  • Robomower Automated Lawn Mower RL800: Can a Robot Really Mow Your Lawn?

    Dec 30, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Works well, safety features, cuts in a pattern, quiet, good battery, time saving dream
    Cons: Time consuming set up

Summary: I guess robots are taking over the world. We now have Roomba to vacuum while we are away. A robot dog named Aibo. And, now, a lawn mower that will operate without you present. If this is how the future is going to be, I love it. Just invent a robot ... read more

  • Terrible experience with RL1000

    Aug 23, 2009 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Wow factor, great looking grass
Cons: poor durability.  Expensive to maintain.

Summary: Many of these reviews seem to be from recent purchasers. I've owned a RL1000 for 2 years now and I thought people could benefit from a more experienced owner.  In 2 years I've had to replace the power supply 3 times and the docking station board 3 ... read more

Pros: Cool! Didn't break a sweat all summer!
Cons: None to speak of. Looking forward to another care-free summer!

Summary: I have the 850 Model which I bought new in box for about $900 (including extra supplies) on Ebay - No Warranty. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I used it from May through November 2007 and it worked better than I could have hoped. I ... read more

  • 2007 model works great! Beware of older reviews.

    Sep 4, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Completely automated, No Gas, Oil, engine, engine noise, cuttings and no sweat.
Cons: Setting wire around property, flower beds took about 90 minutes. People stop and stare.

Summary: I purchased my RL1000 in March of 2007. They have made many improvements in the past 5 years, including the rain sensor. Since March I have put over 250 hours on the machine it still does a great job. While on vacation it went out as scheduled on its ... read more

  • Good, but maybe not for everyone

    May 2, 2007 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: I can watch it cut the grass on a hot day
Cons: Much more expensive than a Wal-Mart special with a Brigs and Straton

Summary: I have owned my RL800 for 4 years. It took a lot of tweaking to get it up and running -- burying the wire and then resetting it. After a while, you just give up and accept the fact the you may have to trim in a few spots. First year, the mower ran great, ... read more

  • Biggest Fan of RoboMower Losing Faith

    Oct 14, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Hit of the neighborhood. Thrilled by the technology.
Cons: Incredibly bad service options at high cost. Expect to lose money.

Summary: I have TWO robomowers (RL1000 and the original RL500!). The RL500 has been doing a decent job for several years. The controller was replaced once because the 4-direction button's rubber rotted away, exposing the microswitch contacts. That cost $70 and ... read more

Pros: Sit on the porch and let it do your work.
Cons: Dig deep in your pockets if you need service.

Summary: I bought a Robomower 500 in Feb. 2005, started mowing in April. It was great, and I had paid quites a discounted price for it. It worked flawlessly throughout the year. I kept it outside and on the charger all winter. In 2006 when it was mowing time, ... read more

    Jul 19, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Helps trim the grass, but still requires attention and still requires manual mowing
Cons: Gets stuck very often and needs constant monitoring. Also mines has broken down twice!!!

Summary: I purchase the Robomow 1000 (top of the range) thinking life will get easy. It took me 1 day to lay the wire and then another day to get the Docking Station in such a position that it does not get stuck all the time. Admit tingly I wanted the docking ... read more

    Jun 12, 2005 by

Cons: It takes about 3 times as long to mow than a push mower...

Summary: I've owned a RL500 robomower for 4 years now. I'm going to review it from the moment I got it, up until now - 4 years later so this may be a little long. I'll try not to be long winded. When I first bought my robomower, I was very skeptical. I didn't ... read more

Pros: You never have to mow the lawn again. How much better can it get?
Cons: time consuming setup; possibly not ideal for uneven lawns or lots of trees

Summary: All I can say is that this is definitely the best purchase I have made in the past decade. Fall of 2003 I moved from a townhouse where my grass was mowed for me to a single family where I needed to mow. Forward a few months and I began doing research ... read more

Pros: Cuts all types of grasses well; good battery life; well designed.
Cons: Some problems on steep slopes - acknowldeged by manufacturer.

Summary: I am now on my third mowing season with my Robomower RL-800 and I'm still very pleased with its performance. I have an irregular yard with some steep slopes (in excess of the recommended 15 degrees), several islands, and trees. The Robomower is able to ... read more

  • Welcome to not mowing but will it last?

    May 31, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Not having to mow. Not taking allergy medication before mowing.
Cons: Not very durable. May last only 3 years at most. Batteries fail each year.

Summary: Make sure you read all of this review before making your decision. Anyone can buy a new car, toy, or appliance and be happy the first few weeks. It's the time factor that you need in making an intelligent decision about a product. Just how long does it ... read more

  • It really does work.

    May 16, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Absolutely amazing. Handles rough lawns and the operation is simple.
Cons: Trickle charger is useless for anything except keeping the charge topped off.

Summary: I was skeptical. Looking at my chunky lawn with big bare spots just starting to grow new grass. My assumption was the mower would hit the chunky parts and treat them like an obstacle. My wife was even more skeptical. So far our RL800 has proven us ... read more

  • Robomower 500

    Jan 14, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Ease of use, no fumes, uses a battery, clean cut, current pricing.
Cons: Worry about neighbors lawn services cutting my wires. Does not work well on wet grass.

Summary: I just picked this up on Overstock for $360 shipped (using coupons of course!) in Jan 2004 and it is a wonderful machine. Installation of the wires and peg into the grass was a bit time consuming (took two afternoons on my .27 ac lot) with 2 kids running ... read more

Cons: Manual mode is slow and tedious. Most will need lots of extra pegs & wire.

Summary: ***NOTICE TO EXISTING CUSTOMERS*** I have been having problems with battery packs swelling and refusing to take a charge. After contacting Friendly Robotics, it turns out that the instructions in the manual are WRONG. DO NOT leave your robomower ... read more
