Efficient, cheap to run

by mistsy , Jan 07 '07
Pros: Quiet, efficient.
Cons: Might be expensive. Need special detergent.
You need to think carefully if you're going to buy a front load washer. They are usually very efficient and cheap to run, but they are expensive. I'm so cheap that I would never have purchased this washer without a lot of incentives to make it as ...

Affection for Affinity

by designermom , Feb 13 '07
Pros: Easy to use, a good value, nice variety of features.
Cons: Need to dry out the gasket, end of cycle tone could be louder
I had to trek into uncharted territory recently and purchase my first washing machine. I've had a washer for years but this was the first one I actually had to buy. The others came with wherever I had been living. So while we're in the process of ...

Affinity is a Work Professional

by mikaeliemom , Dec 04 '06
Pros: Ease of use, multiple settings, cleans well, quiet, energy efficient, uses less water.
Cons: Gasket in door must be wiped out to prevent mildew or door left open.
We recently moved and were in the market for a new washer and dryer. With all consumer news about the front loading models, we felt like this might be the way to go. However, we ran into a major problem: our laundry room dimensions and the door placement ...

Terrible Machine

by one2betrue , Jul 28 '08
Pros: It's better than a hand-cranked washer? ..I think I'd prefer the hand-crank personally.
Cons: Eats time, molds itself, can't handle medium/big loads, only does pre-programmed modes
Yes, you can save energy, but at the cost of your laundry and precious time. Had this machine for nearly 3 years now. It wasn't cheap because it was brandishing "Green" with its water saving acclamations... Do not believe it. The water amount is not ...

Tempermental but Tough

by newswench , Oct 01 '06
Pros: Clothes come out clean, less wet, dries in OLD dryer in half the time.
Cons: Now that the hoses are right, maybe I can do a bigger load? Cleaner clothes.
We originally purchased the 2140 model at Lowes. When we went the next day to pick it up, the 2140 Frigidaire front loading washer was not found. They sold us a phantom and yes, I was upset, to say it mildly. They offered us the ATF6000ES - Affinity™ ...

Frigidaire Affinity - Great product!

by thadsmom , Apr 23 '06
Pros: Price, size, effective cleaning, energy efficiency, style and value. Great product!
Cons: No other color than white.
We lost our Asko washer and dryer due to Hurricane Katrina and were in the market for new front load washers and dryers. We were unimpressed with the Askos we had and decided to look at other options. After many visits to retail stores and numerous ...

An almost perfect residential washer

by medic181075 , Sep 19 '06
Pros: Efficient, cheap to run, comparable price, quiet
Cons: Door leaks slightly if not clean (when unit is new).
I hate reading reviews where a person has only used an item once or twice. I would rather read where an item has been in use for months or even a year. Anyway, I have had this washer in use for 4 months and it has done a great job consistently. The ...

QUIET AND USER FRIENDLY - A BUY

by bocahome , Jun 16 '08
Pros: Quiet and dries spins out most of the water.
Cons: Must be dried out to prevent mildew
I bought this Whirlpool ATF6000 series washer about a year ago and couldn’t be happier with it. The construction of the machine seems sturdy. The drum is stainless steel and the function buttons are intuitive and uncomplicated. The machine uses ...

Good Washer and Dryer for the price

by ilyndg , Jun 07 '07
Pros: Good buy, energy efficient, quiet, can accommodate king size comforters & big loads, stackable
Cons: Washer glass needs to be dried manually or leave the door open
We purchased the affinity washer and dryer on February 2007. I waited for a couple of months so that my review would at least be true based on my experience. Electricity and gas consumption are the best, additional cost per month was only about $3-5 in ...

Worst Purchase Ever

by pitt3340 , Feb 05 '08
Pros: Does clean well when all stain and rinse options are selected.
Cons: Handles clothes terribly. Always mildew covered.
I have NEVER been more frustrated or disappointed with a purchase. The washer ALWAYS has a mildew odor, even after being cleaned with bleach. Consequently, the clothes always have a mildew odor, even when removed from the washer immediately after the ...

Frigidaire Affinity
by skyboy103 ,Dec 13 '06
Pros: Lots of options. Has a hand wash cycle. Very quiet.
Cons: Signal alarm is not very loud. Manufacture defects.
I recently purchased the Affinity washer and dryer. 1 week after using the washer water began to leak from the right rear corner. Then the machine would not complete a wash cycle. I contacted service and found the vent tube was crack and water leak on the main board. Best Buy replaced the machine under there 30 day guarantee. I haven't had a problem since. 5 weeks after I purchased the dryer it no longer works. I press the start button and the drum won't turn (makes a buzzing sound). I can hold the button that allows it to stop when the dryer door is open. If I help spin the drum it will start to run. Now I called Best Buy and ask for a replacement. I am past the 30 day guarantee period and need a manager's approval. Best Buy is going to exchange this dryer. I am very pleased with best Buy customer service.

The worst purchase of my life!!!!
by smankus ,Dec 17 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Horrible!!!!!!!
I purchased an Affinity on 6/3/07 and a repair is scheduled for 12/18/07. I was really looking forward to having a front loading machine and I am so disappointed. It just stopped and gave me an error message of e20 - whatever that is. It never has worked well - clothes have a residual smell and it refuses to wash small bath rugs. Absolutely will never buy a Frigidaire product or frontloader again.

Good buy, very pleased.
by larnyj ,Jul 16 '07
Pros: Good price point, all required features.
Cons: Cycle finished bell is too quiet.
I searched and searched for reviews on front loading washing machines. I had grown up with a front loader (actually a front loading washer/dryer combination).

For the price and quality, the Affinity won. I'm very pleased. I've been using it regularly for 6 months now and have no major complaints.

I'm use to leaving the door open, and we have no small children around so it's our habit to leave the door ajar and have had no problem with water on the seal. Also my Mother's entreaty to "use the scoop!" stills rings in my head so using the proper amount of the correct detergent hasn't been an issue. Love the looks, and it has been easy to use. I would not hesitate to recommend these units.

Bought it at a locally, family owned, appliance store.

What a disappointment!
by sawataffy ,Jun 22 '06
Pros: Visually attractive
Cons: Hasn't completed a load yet!
We were very excited to purchase a new high-efficiency washer for our home. However, in the several weeks since we bought this washer, it has never worked properly. And $800 is a lot to pay for a machine that doesn't work.

The machine often turns itself on and off in the middle of a load of laundry. Sometimes it stops in mid-cycle and then refuses to continue. When this happens, the water remaining in the machine doesn't drain out - It just sits there while our clothes mildew.

The service shop who came to look at the washer several times recommended replacing the "control assembly," which is a warrantied part. However, this part seems in very high demand for a machine that has only been on the market since February 2006. The part is on backorder indefinitely, and the repair shop doesn't think they'll be able to get it for us.

Our advice to fellow consumers is to buy a different model, and to avoid the "Affinity" and "iWash" (Yeah, sure you do!) lines entirely.

Frigidaire Affinity ATF6000ES Front Load Washer
by baarndt ,Mar 13 '07
Pros: Cleans well; easy hookup; easy front controls; quiet
Cons: Water remains on rubber around door; signal soft
After our 5 yr old high efficiency top load washer started putting grease marks on our clothes (and repair was not an option at the price), I immediately wanted to get a new washer. The front loaders are very common, so I was drawn to them. For the price, the Frigidaire Affinity is a great deal as it was one of the cheapest (after the rebate incentives) with the most options. I have found the washer cleans my clothes so much better than my top loader. It was easy to install and is very quiet during the wash cycle. The spin is super fast which causes a bit of a noise, but it leaves the clothes more dry. My main complaint is the amount of water which remains around the door after the wash cycle. If not left open or wiped off, it can cause mildew/odor. I recommend the riser as it is very low to the ground. Compared to a top loader, it does clean better but is harder to load/unload as you can't easily see inside the dark drum.
