Pros: Fast, media center, PC Cons: Small power supply
Since these are still available, and you might be considering one, I figured I would put my 2 cents in. As of this writing (03/31/2007) I have been using my second one for 2 months now. I am not going to bore with the actual specs, you can find that ...

Pros: Looks good. Convenient card reader in front. Fairly quiet. Cons: Power supply. Fan design that pushes air out front of computer.
The sole problem with this computer can be stated in two words: POWER SUPPLY. Like most buyers I just expected that the system would provide enough juice for this type of set up. Wrong. After a few months I heard a quiet sound that was similar to a hard ...

Died 104 days past warranty
by brianherb ,Jun 06 '07
Pros: Great while it worked. Cons: No support from Gateway. Legal action anyone?
Looking for a "5 year box" that would allow us to import & edit home videos, this AMD Dual Core unit looked great at BestBuy. But...
Exactly 104 days after the warranty expired, the system stopped dead. No boot, no POST screens, no beeps, nada. Gateways' advice- the Motherboard may be dead, take it to a computer store. For $1,000+ retail, I really expected a bit more support than that, especially since there are multiple complaints in blogs for this same problem on this motherboard.

WARNING!!! Firewire problems DV capture doesn't work
by nekcih ,Aug 06 '06
Pros: Quiet, Media Center with remote, fast. Cons: Firewire doesn't work, no com port
I bought this computer to use as a Protools recording machine in conjunction with my Digi002. I was pleased to find that it was quiet and all the software installed with no problems. I quickly discovered that I could only playback or record about 30 seconds of audio before protools threw the infamous DAE Error. The machine's data-rate was not keeping up.
I have done hardware tech support for 15 years. After trying different drivers, windows versions, protools versions etc I finally gave up and gave my "Fast" computer to the family. One important thing to note is that I even tried a separate firewire card (one that works in my other machine).
I thought the problem was a strange protools related issue but recently purchased a DV camcorder which has a very similar issue. Using Adobe Premier Pro I can only capture 5 frames of video from my firewire camera before the video gets choppy.
CONCLUSION:
If you want to trouble-shoot your motherboard and firewire devices all day then this is the computer for you. If you just want it to work, build your own.
