This tool is a great way to diagnois why an outlet is not working. It will tell you if there is power going to the outlet, if the hot and neutral wires are reversed, if there is a problem with the grounding, and even if the outlet is wired correctly. Also checks to see if the GCFI function is working properly on the ground fault outlets commonly found in wet or damp areas of a house(Also in kitchens, baths and laundry rooms)

Operation of the tester involves simply plugging it into the outlet and looking at the series of lights that light up. there is an explanation for what problem these lights lighting indicates.

There is a button that when pushed will trip a gcfi outlet-you should be testing these regularly.
