Pros: big, looks nice (until it gets fingerprints all over) Cons: sensor is useless; heating is not even; stainless steel will look dirty soon
NOTE: I bought and tested the General Electric JES2251SJ in April 2005. ------- I decided to take a shot of healthy tomato juice today. Why tomato juice in particular? Because of its perfect viscosity for my purpose: testing the cooking ...

Pros: Beautiful design, generous interior Cons: Sensor and fan did not seem to work, food not done properly.
The first thing I tried was heating water for a cup of tea, which seemed a nice and easy way to begin, using the Lunch/Soup setting. We were amazed at the utter silence of the unit. More about that later. After too short a period of time, the unit shut ...

Pros: quiet,
cooks quickly,
all stainless design,
large capacity Cons: two button "add a minute" cooking,
long-term reliability concerns
i bought this microwave on ebay after reading it was top rated by consumer reports. the unit arrived and didn't work properly (smelled like burning plastic and shut itself off after 20 seconds), but a call to GE had a service tech out to the house in a ...

only lasted for 17 months
by e645824 ,Jun 22 '08
Pros: roomy inside. easy to clean. Cons: stopped working after 17 months.
I have the GE JES2251SJ02 in stainless steel. I have to agree with several of the other posters. My microwave only lasted for 17 months (Feb 7, 2007 to June 22, 2008). Now it doesn't work.
No inside light, no display, no response to the keypad. There doesn't appear to be a fuse anywhere. I tried unplugging/replugging but that didn't help.
I bought the unit because it was stainless steel (to match my other appliances), had a turn table, and was the correct size to fit on the counter next to the refrigerator (i.e. I wanted something that was large enough to consume the entire space instead of leaving little dust-collecting spaces).
I'm going back to a more reliable brand.
Scott Nelson
PS I really liked this unit, right up until it stopped working. Had it kept working, I certainly would have recommended it. But for kitchen appliances, especially something like a microwave, it just needs to work.
PPS I just purchased a Panasonic NN-SD987S to replace this unit; see my epinion of the 987. The 987 looks to be an identical unit to this GE unit (except for the control pad and the logo).

Looks and Works Well
by frozintime ,Nov 30 '07
Pros: Its all good. Cons: Counter space required(if that is a con)....and pricey vs most others.
We have had this model now for about 4 months. There are no faults that I can see except that it does take up a lot of counter space. It also has a LOT of interior room. It heats evenly and quickly overall...

Very Unreliable.. don't trust Consumer Reports
by cm001 ,Nov 19 '07
Pros: simple to use when it works Cons: had two major repairs during the first nine months. Long holds on customer care line.
Ditto on all the reviews here.
I purchased this microwave nine months ago. It stopped working after one month requiring major repair. After repair, it worked another seven months and failed again. Another repair. Both repairs were covered by warranty, but I was without use of the microwave for almost two weeks. The part had to be ordered both times.
I only use the microwave to heat water and warm a couple leftovers each day. Nothing major. I would say that it runs an average of 15 minutes per day at the most. Based on my experience so far, I believe that using it more than this might result in a total melt down.
Features...
Unlike the Sharp MW I had prior to this one, the GE does not offer many preprogrammed cooking options. The popcorn setting does not work well and actually burns the popcorn.
I also find the door to be a bit fragile. I am concerned that the large glass platter will break when taken out. Seems like another, more durable material could have been used.
If you want the fragrance of burning circuitry, this microwaves for you!!!

Lasts 11 months and dies
by ellic ,Nov 13 '07
Pros: Great controls & ease of use. At 2.2CI is one of the largest out there Cons: Poor LATCHING SYSTEM and MICROSWITCH setup.
We had a Panasonic Microwave that would last 11months and die. The problem appeared to be a poorly designed latch system.
We got the GE to avoid the problem. imagine our surprise when the unit arrived and it appeared to have the same latching system. We made some calls and discovered that all microwaves come out of the same factory in S.Korea (might have been China, not 100% sure)
Sure enough, the unit is 11 mos 2 weeks old and it starts its' death dance. The tech is looking at it as I write this and trying to figure how to help us for the future.

Disappointing Quality
by churari ,Sep 05 '07
Pros: Looks nice. Cons: Cheap. Broke within a year. The door is flimsy. No one button cook.
When I purchased this microwave in January 2007 I was looking for an affordable stainless steel microwave. When the microwave first arrived I noticed how "cheap" it felt. The door is flimsy and the whole unit just felt like it was poor quality. In August 2007 it died on me. It would only turn on for about 20 seconds without heating anything. Since it was under warranty I called the repair man out. He immediately knew what was wrong and tried to sell me an extended warranty. I asked him, "Why? Isn't this a reliable microwave?" He simply responded "I'm here already, right?"
So much for quality. He had to order a part and fixed it a week later.

Excellent Microwave
by piinky ,Dec 28 '07
Pros: Inverter Technology, Cooking Sensors, Large Capacity Cons: NONE
I'm not sure why so many people have complained about this model. It's actually very durable, large, and cooks anything you throw at it! Maybe some of the complainers didn't take the time to read the user manual?
For the size, wattage, and inverter technology... which no one else has mentioned, you can't beat it for around $200!

Still Powerful after 3 years. Outperforms any Microwave I've ever owned.
by jetlag747 ,Jan 04 '10
Pros: Powerful Nice looking great features including reheat, inverter defrost and many quick convenient settings. Cons: Size could be a con for some, but I bought it for size and power.
I bought it for the size and power. When following generic cooking instructions cut back on the time about 30 % as this unit is powerful ! Stainless steel needs to be wiped for prints, but looks great after 3 years. I would buy another one in a heartbeat ! Best Micro I've even owned and I've owned 20 - 30 so far ... in my mid 50's

Great........if you don't mind doing without popcorn
by yadax3_340 ,Jun 26 '07
Pros: Looks, ease of use (very intuitive), Inverter Defrost feature, size of cavity, price Cons: Burns popcorn.
This microwave excels at everything except making popcorn. For some reason I've never been able to turn out a decent bag of popcorn. No matter how long I let it cook, it burns the popcorn in the bag from the inside out. It's outstanding at defrosting and reheating food though.
I mostly use a microwave for heating up Lean Cuisines after work and it does that like a champ. Press 'Dinner' and 'Start' and that's it.
The controls are very intuitive. Just take it out of the box, plug it in, and go. Everything makes sense. The control panel is also very ease to read.
The inside is huge compared to other microwave ovens I've owned. I wonder if that has anything to do with its inability to make popcorn?
Overall it's a great microwave for the price.....unless you really want a microwave that'll make popcorn.

Lasted less than 6 months
by jleonelli ,Jun 18 '09
Pros: It was good until it broke down Cons: Stopped working without notice!
My GE Profile Microwave stopped working completely after 6 months. I wish I had read what was here before I bought it. A very expensive, disapointing mistake. I will never by GE again!
