This washing machine suddenly stopped spinning and agitating, after nine months. I contacted GE through their website and received a call from a local GE repair company. They came to the house the next day and quickly repaired the washer. The service man said these washers will stop if the electronics believes there is a problem. It can be caused by and electrical spike, overloading, or getting out of balance. He actually opened and closed the lid a number of times, and it started to work.

Pros: VERY QUIET!!!!
Cons: Problem w/motor in first month; HOWEVER, GE took care of us!

'Bought one in the spring of 2008, and am well pleased. IT IS SO QUIET; WE THOUGHT IT WAS NOT WORKING!!! We had a slight problem with the motor within the first month. 'Called GE and they were out to fix it within 2-3 days, and voila, problem solved. All was covered under warrantee. So far, I am well pleased.

Pros: The repairman came out the day after we called and was prompt.
Cons: Our 13 month old machine is headed for the local landfill.

After 13 months of light use the washer started making loud clunking noises.  We called GE customer service and they came out the next day.  According to the repairman, the machine could not be repaired and needed to be replaced.  And because it was just over 1 year old, GE said it was not covered under their 12-month warranty.

Luckily we paid for this with a credit card that doubled the manufacturer's warranty, otherwise we'd be out over $500.

No way, no how will we ever buy anything else from GE.  Unfortunately this once great company is now making cheap appliances and worse, they do not stand behind them.
