Pros: worked like a dream for almost two months; cheap; easy to use Cons: starts complaining when heavily used for almost two months
Ever since I received the GPX D1816 DVD player for Christmas, Ive been singing its praises without hesitation. Until today. Maybe it was the heavy use of it last weekend (Dances With Wolves Directors Cut, 4 Abbot & Costello feature ...

Pros: Very inexpensive and well-made. Cons: Not sure how long this will last.
I see that they have finally made a DVD player that can be disposable. I found this GPX DVD player at Aldis. I know that this is not the most common place to find a DVD player, but they usually have some good deals anyway. This is usually a ...

Pros: It is very cheap in price. Cons: It is very cheap in quality.
I bought this as a cheap option to playing my non NTSC DVDs. My family mostly watches PAL format DVDs and this became the primary DVD player in our house, though we still used a different one for all our American DVDs. The player worked like a charm at ...

Got what I paid for
by colddonkey ,Jul 05 '09
Pros: Low cost Cons: Needs constant cleaning
When the player is working it is quite okay. But damn if it isn't cleaned every 2-3 dvds it will start fluttering or freeze up all together. So get yourself a cleaning disc when you purchase this and I think you'll be pleased.

GPX D1816 DVD palyer
by mickspace ,Jan 10 '09
Pros: NTSC and PAL playable Cheap, Disposable Cons: Cheap, Disposable
GPX-D1816
I collected enough Visa points to get something; this is what I got... as my Sony DVD player finally died...
I know not to trust any GPX item, but it was free… My expectations are not high with it..
So far it has worked as expected; I haven’t used it much...
It plays DVD’s sometimes it skips or produces pixilated frames. Burned DVDs seem finicky in it.
This item would be good for a kid who you expect to break it, or a grandmother who will almost never use it.
To my surprise it plays PAL DVD’s! Not many will, most are either NTSC or PAL. This Player has a button for NTSC/PAL or Automatic. For that reason alone I would recommend it.

Buy cheap, buy twice
by jimk21 ,Apr 20 '08
Pros: Compact. Cons: Not durable.
I bought two of these units. Worked well at first and then shortly after the warranty expired I started having problems. One unit inexplicably was trying to eject and the DVD drawer got stuck and there was quite a racket and I could smell smoke. But quite frankly, if a manufacturer can't guarantee their product for more than 90 days, what should we expect ?
