Garmin GPSMAP 478 GPS Receiver

Pros: Customizable, sophisticated, usable on land or water, dazzling screen, smart, a bit techy
Cons: Difficult power plug into unit, no touch screen; many buttons, long users guide, bit techy

Unit comes pre-installed with North American street map, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, and the national yellow pages listings. Also includes coastal waterway G2 (hi-res) nautical maps when you use the unit in a boat. There is nothing to add via CD; don't know why prior reviewer wanted to do this. Unit is customizable to display nearly anything you want to display while enroute. Have seen accuracy down to 7 feet with WAAS enabled. I also have the excellent Garmin Nuvi 350 but this unit is more sophisticated and in some ways satisfying and fun.

Pros: None - Sales without service is useless.
Cons: Extremely Bad Service.

After purchasing this relatively expensive unit I wanted to add Points of Interest to add value.

Good luck getting any support or help on the product. The web site mentions a Points of Interest CD that was discontinued in March and offers no alternative solution. A marine GPS without Points of Interest is not useful to me.

I will send the unit back to the reseller for a refund if I cannot get an answer from Garmin in the next 4 days. Be prepared to be placed on hold indefinitely. If you are lucky enough to get a person, beware should they transfer you to another line because the line will simply not be answered.
