Excellent GPS hardware + software package, with a few small weaknesses

by bobodobo , Aug 18 '06
Pros: Excellent integration of hardware with 5 separate robust applications and map database
Cons: Many minor weaknesses in the software feature set
I wanted a simple, inexpensive way to add GPS functions to my Palm Treo 650 phone/PDA, and the GPS 10 Bluetooth receiver + Garmin's Que software seemed to fit the bill. For me, this setup was preferable to a stand-alone GPS unit for the car since I ...

Amazing device -- Great Maps, Great Software, Great Unit! Wow!

by legolas- , Mar 29 '05
Pros: Great maps, great GPS reception, easy to use software that is POWERFUL and full featured.
Cons: Lack of bundled mounts... But, you aren't forced to buy mounts that aren't needed.
I recently decided to get a GPS solution for my car. I'm a computer consultant, so I travel a lot. I used to use Microsoft Streets and Trips to create a map of where I was going that day, but, there isn't exactly any easy way to flexibly change the order ...

Adds GPS Capability to Any Bluetooth PDA

by stuarth , Mar 14 '06
Pros: Accurate, easy to use, voice prompts, local information, good battery life
Cons: Possible software compatibility issues leading to my PDA freezing on some occasions
I've now been using this GPS with my iPAQ for 8 months, and have an update to my original review. Update: Some issues have become apparent. I'm not sure if they have to do with my PDA, or with the Garmin software or some combination. 1. My iPAQ ...

I never thought it could be so good!

by jfproulx , Jun 22 '05
Pros: Amazing: never get lost again! Works like a charm!
Cons: Small Buttons on PDA difficult while driving. Other Maps for the world are expensive.
A friend of mine had a Garmin Street Pilot 2610 in his car and I had found it to be amazing in its features and definitely very useful for someone that travels a lot like I do. I got lost in Ottawa a few weeks thereafter and could not get to a business ...

Never get lost again!

by fudge23 , Sep 24 '03
Pros: Compact, lightweight, excellent navigational too - Nationwide
Cons: The Learning Curve is high - takes a while to figure this gizmo out.
Just moved to LA and was literally overwhelmed with the driving and how big this place is. Maps are useless and inches thick. I used MAPQUEST constantly even to get to the stores. If only I could get mapquest in my car...... Then I was turned on to ...

Inexpensive, and MEMORY UPGRADABLE

by bermudaboogy , Sep 02 '04
Pros: Memory chip upgrades, up to 128mb Big screen
Cons: Serial interface, no USB Battery drain during map transfer
I have been using garmin GPS systems for auto navigation since 1996, and that's prior to having maps on the screen. I've had the Garmin emap for almost six years, and it has never once failed me when used in an area with an unobstructed view of the sky. ...

Wow! I'm impressed!
by darthvagrant ,May 19 '04
Pros: All the capability of the E Trex plus sufficient map storage. Low price.
Cons: Non-captive battery cover. Should COME WITH optional soft plastic case/cover. Won't work in dense woods.
UPDATE: This unit is out of production. It connects with a serial cord, seems like Garmin is all USB now.I had to buy a Belkin serial/USB adapter to continue programmiing this unit with my new laptop.

I have several pieces of Garmin GPS equipment, and this's one of the least expensive. I couldn't get along without it. I do a lot of dirt biking in the wilds of Michigan, and no longer must contend with my complete lack of direction recognition. I initially used an E Trex but that'd only get me back to the motorhome. With the map storage of the E Map I can now identify sources of fuel and food (towns). I found it necessary to construct a "floppy" cushioned mount for the E Trex and E Map so a large shock wouldn't momentarily
disconnect the batteries (and affect stored data). Negates the need for a compass and maps which is really great on a dirt bike. (snowmobile, etc.)
