General Electric PEM31SMSS 800 Watts Microwave Oven

Pros: Good design, works well, fits on a standard kitchen shelf.
Cons: numerous product failures, poor customer service.

I am on my second SpaceMaker II microwave (it is the only one that fits on my kitchen shelf), and the new one has failed three times in three months. GE has repaired it under warranty, but will not replace it. There have been numerous reports of failure, and even fires with GE microwaves, but the company has declined to issue a recall.

This is a good looking microwave, and is much better made (and more expensive) than other products in its class, and I would be very happy with it if it wasn't constantly failing.

Pros: Good looks, fits cabinet installation, works fine for us
Cons: Sometimes inconsistent heating

We bought this new in box from a person who got it for a gift, and couldn't use it.  We only paid $80 for it, then $106 for the stainless trim kit.  This is a good looking unit, and was purchased because we were going stainless.  We had already bought the GE Profile french door refrigerator (disappointment).

It works fine for us, although sometimes it seems to vary in effective heating (sometimes a two minute heating will almost boil a cup of coffee, sometimes not a hot).  We primarily use it for warming things, so it works for our needs, plus it matches the refrigerator, double ovens and diswasher (all of which have their deficiencies).  Of all these GE Profile appliances, we think the microwave is the only one we wouldn't want to replace.
