Soyo DVR4200 DVD Player / VCR Combo

Pros: It's a combo deck! = Handy. Also, nice styling in a silver case.
Cons: Audio output not consistent between DVD and VHS. Somewhat prone to skipping.

I bought my unit as an "open box" special, so it had been returned. Maybe for the reasons listed under "cons", below?

Basically, this is a nice way to add DVD capability to your viewing area, while maintaining the ability to play and record...

Pros: Worked great for seven months. A/V inputs on front. Copies some DVD's to tape.
Cons: DVD part stopped functioning and tray won't stay closed when unit is on.

This unit worked great for 7 months and I liked the features it had. Then one day the DVD player stopped working. Whenever the unit is on, the tray stays open. Turn off the unit and the tray closes. The company said too bad, the warranty is for 90 days....

Played one DVD movie, one CD music disk, and recorded one VHS movie and played it back. All worked well. After 5 weeks the power failed to come back on so I returned unit to store. No repair facilities are listed on your web site.

I bought this unit and used it 11 months of play time. (it was in storage for 7 months) I used the machine fror 2 months and the DVD completely crashed. No reapir available in my zip and Sonic Blue was less than helpful. The only repair quote was for 212.00. So if you are looking to buy, consider another product with better service, or better longevity.

I recently purchased a DVR-4200. Picture quality on both the VCR and DVD players was excellent. Tried the DVD to VCR record function. Video produced was also of excellent quality. I haven't found any real problems with this unit and would highly recommend it. I had another brand of DVD/VCR prior to purchasing this unit. It produced an excellent DVD picture but the VCR picture was only so-so. Anybody looking to purchase a combo unit should definitely consider this unit. One other plus is the simple to use and figure out remote control.
