Don't buy Goodyear based on the 80K warranty
by ronflig ,May 22 '07
Pros: Nice riding tire and "program"
Cons: Lousy tread-wear and replacement required after only 30% of rated life
I've been a longtime Goodyear customer and went with the Goodyear Assurance tires paying nearly $500 installed. I was impressed with the information and program around the tires. However after only 32,000 miles the tires needed replacement. Of course they pro-rated the new tires but at this rate I'll pay over $250/tire as a lifetime cost to get to the 80,000 stated tire life of the Goodyear Assurance not to mention the time spent waiting for replacements to be mounted + new vales, + shop fees + taxes +++. I can buy a lot of other tires a few times over before I would reach this cost and likely 3 times the mileage to boot. So unfortunately, no you don't get what you pay for. Goodyear's question was "did you rotate the tires". So rotation would triple the tread-wear??? Show me the data that supports that theory. BTW...I did have the tires rotated.

Excellent on wet roads, sub-par on snow and Ice.
by mschmitz2 ,Jan 21 '07
Pros: Buy this tire if you don't have to worry about winter driving conditions.
Cons: Poor snow and Ice handling. Save money, get better traction, by purchasing quality all-season radials.
I live in Nebraska and drive 148 miles round-trip to work and back every day (1997 Mercury Cougar). I'm very impressed with the wet road traction of these tires. You can fly down the interstate easily at the 75 mph speed limit. The tires are quiet and handle great in dry and wet conditions.
Snow handling is less than desirable... The ability to grab in the snow is about 70% of my previous set of all-season radials. They will usually get you there once you get moving, but getting started in more than 3" of snow can be challenging if not impossible.
Ice handling is no better than any other tire. I wouldn't give them any points for improved ice traction.
If I lived in an area that doesn't get snow and ice, I would strongly recommend these tires. Because though, of the winter driving I do, I do not plan on buying these tires again. I will go back to a quality all-season radial and save some money and get better winter traction.
Decide for yourself.
Mike.

Truly An Amazing Tire
by josamsung ,Jul 07 '09
Pros: Great Looks, Perform Well in Almost Any Situation
Cons: Price, but definately well worth it
I recently bought a used 2000 Toyota Camry and one of the things that sold me was the tires.  They make the car look so much better than the average Camry somehow.  They handle exceptionally well on wet and dry pavement and can even handle the North Dakota winters with little effort.  Do not let the price turn you away because a set of quality tires will pay for themselves in improved gas mileage, long life and above all, safety.  Just imagine the COST of damage if your car were to slip on wet or snowy roads and get damaged just because you were using a poor set of tires.  With these tires, I did not get stuck in the snow or slip on the ice once, even with my little Camry.  Oh, and be sure to rotate your tires every 5000-6000 miles to keep them in tip top shape.

Good On Dry & Wet Roads, "Lousy"on ICE
by pmatt ,Dec 16 '08
Pros: Very good dry and wet handling !!
Cons: These tyres are terrible on ice !!!
I have four of these tyres on my Honda Accord and the car handles very well on wet and dry roads, but I live in Montreal Canada and driving on ice is a totally different story.
Moving off on ice is difficult as the grip is poor so the tyre keeps spinning. Also stopping on ice is horrendous you have to make sure you anticipate what the next driver infront of you is going to do.
I drove from Edmonto to Toronto via the nothern States and while driving in Montana a sudden snow fall occured , I was going slowly about 40 mph with a cross wind lost control on the highway and almost got hit , luckily the highway was not very busy. Now that the winter is here I have put on Michellin X-Ice and the car stops in a jiffy on a penny !!!

Great tire
by tom-maddog ,Jun 01 '05
Pros: Excellent traction on both dry and wet pavement. Quieter than my old tires.
Cons: Expensive. Don't work on wheels with hubcaps.
This is a fantastic tire. I bought four of them for my Nissan Sentra about 6 weeks and 4,000 miles ago, and couldn't be happier with them.

Performance on both wet and dry pavement is excellent; I haven't had a chance to try it in the snow yet, but I'm betting it does well there too.

The TripleTreds are quieter than my OEM Bridgestone Potenza tires.

I found prices varied widely so shop around for the best deal. I ended up paying $150/tire including all mounting, balancing, and a pro-rata road hazard warranty (historically I get a lot of flats, so I sprung for the warranty ~$10/tire).

Some reviewers mentioned seeing a decline in mileage after getting the TripleTred. I have not seen that. My average mileage for the 10 fillups prior to getting the new tires was 32.9 mpg, and my average mileage for my ten most recent fillups with the TripleTreds is 33.4 mpg. So if anything, I've seen a slight improvement in mileage.

GOODYEAR TRIPLE TREAD
by eagle182 ,Mar 29 '05
Pros: Traction & handling very good.
Cons: Loss of 2 miles per gallon.
Replaced Michelins with the Triple Tread on my 02 Honda Odyssey. They were quieter, but still noisy at higher speeds. Handling is very good. I now have about 20,000 miles on the tires. My biggest disappointment is I lost 2 miles per gallon of gas. Since I drive about 20,000 miles per year, this adds up especially at today's gas prices. I always keep an accurate record of all the gas I use.
When I mentioned this to the dealer, they said I should have gone to the Comfort Tread. They would have been quieter and wouldn't have lost the gas mileage. At least that's what they said. Unfortunately I went back in 35 days and they wouldn't replace the tires.

Tires design caused hubcaps to rotate speed and cause valve stems to break result=flat tires
by stryker2005 ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: Tires have great comfort at high and low speeds. Great in the rain also.
Cons: Use with alloy wheels only. Hubcaps wouldn't work with these tires Use metal valvestems!
Tires are great, but the way these triple treads are manufactured/designed, causes my Mazda MPV hubcaps to spin and break off the valve stems. It's weird that this happens on the front wheels only. I guess from the wheels turning from left to right causes them to flex more and spin the hubcaps at higher speeds.

AWESOME Tires!!!!
by billom1 ,Dec 08 '04
Pros: Traction & warranty make for confident driving
Cons: None I can think of!
I just put a new set of these tires on my 2003 Honda Odyssey...and I am really impressed. I was looking for tires that would make me worry less about my wife and two kids driving in bad weather...and these were the answer. They really grip the road in good and bad weather...yet the ride is smooth and QUIET. In fact, it's hard to believe that a tire with such an unusual tread design can be so quiet. I can see why Goodyear is willing to offer a 30 day test drive.....they'll probably never get any back. I like the 80K warranty....but it's too early to tell if they'll really last that long. Remember to sign up on Goodyear's Assurance website to register your tires and to sign up for the rotation reminder service!!! I live in the Northeast where we just had our first snowfall...and the tires were excellent in the couple of inches we had. I expect they'll do well in deeper snow, too. I bought mine on sale at Sears...and they were much cheaper than my local Goodyear/Gemini dealer. In sum....these are great tires...don't hesitate to buy them!

Goodyear Triple Treads NOT that Good
by crpl_hicks ,Feb 25 '09
Pros: Good handling in Rain, comfortable ride, responsive on dry
Cons: Poor handling response in light, heavy snow. Did I mention they're NOT good in snow?
I live in Alberta, Canada, so I know snow & winter driving.  I've had snow tires & I know All Seasons cannot equal Winters, but I was truly disappointed with the Triple Tread.  Deep snow, light snow, they performed no better than the half worn Sears Tires I replaced.
I have little confidence in their traction on the snow & ice.  In fact because of my experience with these tires I question all these "glowing" reviews regarding the tire’s performance in snow.  Although, I will say they handle well in the rain.  Would I buy them again?  Definitely NOT & can not encourage anyone who drives in winter weather to buy them.

Balancing Problems
by kindeyes ,Sep 06 '07
Pros: look good
Cons: couldn't get them the balance.
I bought a set of 4 for my 2005 Toyota Solara, replacing OEM Bridgestone Potenzas which only lasted 27K miles. The dealer couldn't get the Goodyears to balance (two attempts), even with dynamic load balancing and rotating front to back. At 55 - 70 MPH the steering wheel shook noticably and hard!

I gave up and replaced them with Yokohama Avid V4S tires which are fine.

This could have been just one or two bad tires and other folks may have better luck with the Goodyear tires.

1999 Acura 3.2TL
by up0145996 ,Nov 15 '06
Pros: Great traction, wet or dry Great handling and response Great ride Cheaper than the Hydroedge
Cons: Can't think of any...
Bought these for my wife's car to replace the OEM Michelins (MXV4)at 54,000 miles. Always felt that they were pretty noisy and didn't have very good wet traction. I've always had good luck and preferred Michelin (was considering the Hydroedge) but Consumers Report rated the Goodyear #1. Took the car out in the rain after I put them on to see how they'd handle and I couldn't break them loose. Read a few reviews about noise, but I'm not hearing anything. Ended up getting them at a Department store on sale and saved over $60.00 compared to the local discount tire store. It pays to shop around... I think I'm going to try and talk my wife into driving the MDX so I can have the TL. It's a blast.
These tires won't disappoint you...

Hard ride
by billh33403 ,Aug 18 '06
Pros: None
Cons: Hard ride
I took them off my car after 800 miles. The only time my car rode good was on new pavement. Goodyear swapped the Triple tread for the comfort tread and I am very happy.

awesome tires!!!
by gottabeme0002 ,May 29 '06
Pros: The best tires I have ever had, great handling and quiet plus they look great.none
Cons: none
I read a lot of reviews on different tires and these tires had the best reviews. The major complaint was the price but I looked around and found 4 tires for $355 after a rebate. I've had these tires for 7 weeks now and am totally thrilled with them. We have had a lot of rain and they handled perfectly and also great on dry roads. Besides the great handling they are also quiet. I would recommend these tires to anyone and if price is a problem for you look around for sales and rebates...they are out there.

Wonderful tires
by sandmoose ,Jun 20 '05
Pros: Quiet, handling in rain and snow, looks
Cons: PRICE
I have a 94 Saturn with over 100K miles. You may wonder why I put tires on this car that cost almost as much as the car is worth. Since the car is mostly composite it is very light and tends to hydroplane. The factory Firestone’s were terrible. Even a slight drizzle and the cars handling became frightening. I replaced the factory tires with the Goodyear Wing foot HP’s. I went with as large a tire as they could fit in the wheel well. This helped the performance in snow but didn’t help as much in the rain. After wearing out the Wing foots I started shopping for a better rain tire. I did my research and decided to spend the money on the triple tread. Since then my handling in snow and rain is fantastic. Barely any slip at all in rain and no hydro planning even in heavy rain.
