Pros: Great mix of performance and safety Cons: No tread wear warranty
Matching the right tire to your car is a very important task. Luckily the average tire shop does an acceptable job of this so we don't have to put too much thought into the decision. For the average consumer buying OEM spec tires is the right choice ...
Pros: Smooth and quiet on dry, straight stretched of road; good treadlife. Cons: Terrible handling for cornering, on wet roads, or in snow. Grossly overpriced.
In 2001 I purchased a Chevrolet Monte Carlo back in '01 it came with a set of Goodyear Eagle RS/A H-rated 225x60x16 tires. I drove on these tires for three years and about 40,000 miles; during that entire period I was very dissatisfied with their ...
Pros: Fine for dry roads....and dry roads only!
Good ride and relatively quiet. Cons: Absolutely the worst on wet, icy, or slushy roads!!
Goodyear Eagle RS-A were the stock tires on my new 2003 Ford Focus ZTW wagon and they are simply the worst tires I have ever experienced in over 30 years of driving on many types of vehicles! If you have a Focus with these tires....get rid of them as ...
Pros: excellent traction, smooth ride, quiet, worth the high price Cons: kind of expensive
I bought these tires for a 1995 Nissan 240SX SE,a small, light rear-wheel drive car, which tends to slip a lot in the snow and rain. The last tires recommended were Assuro's, which slipped all over in all kinds of weather. This time I shopped quite a...
Pros: Good dry handling, pretty quiet even at 120 mph. Cons: Loses air, slippery when wet, manufacturer's defects.
I recently bought a 2004 Maxima with Eagle RS-A 245/45-R18's as the OEM tires. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I have experienced many of the negatives most of the other reviewers have. They feel fine & quiet on dry roads and since I live in ...
Pros: They were free, since they came standard on the car Cons: Everything
These tires were original equipment on my 2000 Dodge Avenger. Worst mistake chrysler ever did by putting such bad tires on such a nice car. Anyhow, when I reached approximately 22000 miles on the car, these tires were absolutely bald. Keep in mind that my driving style is very light. I do not accelerate fast, and I have often been called a turtle behind the wheel. Perhaps it is the heat of the Florida highways that destroys the tread. I replaced these tires with Firestone Firehawk SS20's. These are awesome tires with great handling and awesome wet (in rain) performance.
These were standard on my Grand Am GT. The front tires not only kept losing air pressure, but they made a squeaking noise at low speeds. The dealership said it was a defect and replaced the front tires (and moved the front tires to the back). Now, I have four RS-A tires, and two of the four lose air pressure constantly.
In addition, I have had two accidents involving hydroplaning since I have had this car with these tires. This has not happened in any other car or in any other tire. While I am not attributing blame directly to the the tire, I have to say I have noticed an egregious amount of slippage in the tires year-round, especially in wet weather.
Pros: Tread wears well. Cons: Loses Air, Sidewall is weak and breaks.
These tires came standard on the 2002.5 Jetta GLX sports package model. While the tread wears well, this tire is sub par in every other facet.
After 25K mile, I've now had 2 sidewalls have mild blowouts with the tire deflating rapidly but holding together until I reached the shoulder. The tire also has no tolerance for under or over inflation and leaks air almost continually as I know of others who have to visit the air pump every other day just to ensure that the tire can roll down the road.
A Poor Showing from Goodyear to say the least. Stay Away from these tires.
Pros: They look nice Cons: Poor handling in dry, wet and snow, with excessive noise that fills the cabin.
OEM tires on BMW 530, since day one these tires have been loud, poor handling in dry and wet and treacherous in snow. Now with 40000 kilometers, (25000miles) both back tires have broken steel belts that caused warping in the turn and the whole car now shakes at any speed. Instead of buying two new tires, cause fronts still have life, I'm scraping all four and getting new set. Glad to get rid of these "worst tires ever made". Goodyear and BMW should be ashamed in putting out such a poor quality tire.
Pros: Tread wear wasn't too bad for mileage. Cons: Sidewall leaks and week sidewalls. Poor tracking/steering.
In mid-2004, I bought 2 195HR16 to replace two OEM tires that needed replacing on my 1999 Honda Accord. Both of the Eagles developed bad sidewall leaks. Took them back to shop I had purchased them from and had both replaced under warrenty.
Both of the replacements held air okay for a short time, but the replacements also developed weak sidewall issues and leaks. Ultimately had to have sidewall reseals done on both of the replacements by a second shop. Put the remaining two OEM tires on front and the Eagles on the back, and they worked okay as rear tires only (without the weight of the engine as an issue).
Ultimately replaced the remaining two OEM tires with Kumho KH16 Solus, which were much improved in wet weather stopping/regular handling, and ultimately replaced the remaining GTs with two more Kumhos this week.
The remaining two GTs had been rotated back to the front a few months ago, and until they were replaced, the sidewall problems continued and they tracked horribly and lost air to the point that they halved my gas mileage.
I will never buy Goodyear again after this experience.
Air loss and poor traction in rain/snow!!! by lzap2112 ,Apr 08 '04
Pros: They're better than no tires at all. Cons: Expensive. POOR traction. Loses air pressure regularly.
These tires came standard on my 2000 Eclipse GT. Even though they only have 35K of wear, I'm shopping for new tires because I'm tired of the poor traction and constant loss of air pressure.
The traction is poor, ESPECIALLY in rain and snow, and I've had experiences on MANY occasions similar to other reviewers. I've hydroplaned on several occasions, and now when it rains, even just a drizzle, I drive white knuckled and significantly slower than everyone else on the road.
I've also had similar problems with loss of air pressure, primarily in two of the tires. I need to check them (and usually add some air) at least once a week and it's extremely aggravating. And when one of the tires begins to lose air, you can feel it in the steering as if the car is out of alignment, which I guess at that point it is in a way.
Bottom line, these tires are very annoying and more importantly DANGEROUS. I'm surprized Goodyear has not faced any lawsuits yet related to the subpar performance of these "performance" tires.
Horrible Goodyear Eagle RSA Tires by glamor_gal ,Aug 01 '07
Pros: There are no Pros. Cons: The Goodyear Eagle RSA is a defective tire, that experiences tread separation.
The Goodyear Eagle RSA is a terrible tire. On my brand new 2007 Ford Focus while on vacation tread completely separated from the tire, and I almost died in an accident. Luckily I was able to regain control of my car. Goodyear claims there is nothing wrong with the tire, and they cannot determine from examining the tire whether there was tread separation or not. There was damage to the back bumper of my car because of this. I had to pay to have the tires replaced. I HATE GOODYEAR, AND THEIR STUPID TIRES! If you have Goodyear Eagle RSA's get rid of them fast. They are a hazard.
