Pros: Arguably the best hot dogs in the city, cheap, excellent drinks Cons: No place to sit
Grey's Papaya is a slightly gaudy looking store on the corner of 72nd Street and Broadway. It looks like, and effectively is a beefed up hot dog stand. But oh, what a hot dog stand. Grey's Papaya is considered to be arguably, the Best Hot Dog place in...
Pros: Low-priced hot dog bliss Cons: No place to sit
"You had a HOT DOG for lunch?" my co-worker incredulously asks. Oh, Gotham snob, how can you be so naive? This is no ordinary hot dog, the undercooked, dirty-water soaked, stale-bun encased quasi-sausage that vendors hawk with reckless abandon...
Pros: Excellent Hot Dogs at Cheap Prices Cons: There is no Place to Sit
Grays Papaya is a must for all New Yorkers and New York visitors. The first time I bit into a Gray's Papaya hot dog, I fell in love. Even if you don't like hot dogs, you may like these. Grays Papaya hot dogs are thin and long, with a thin crisp skin on...
Pros: Great hot dogs at great price Cons: It's 4000 miles between me and them
I don't like hot dogs that much. Maybe I was born in a wrong country. The the first time I visited New York I came across Gray's Papaya and decided to give them a try. After all, I was in the USA and you can't leave country without eating hot dogs. ...
Pros: Delicious Hot Dogs, Super cheap, Good location Cons: Standing Room Only
When looking for a good hot dog place, my son and I have to compare it to our two gold standards. They are Fast Track dogs under the El in Chicago and Gray's Papaya just outside the subway station at 72nd and Broadway in New York.
Pros: Cheaper Than Dirt Cons: "Seating" Arrangement
Believe it or not, one can fill up on $2.00 at this tiny hole located in numerous corners of NY. Yes, that's right - $2.00. Granted, all you will get is a big ol' bunch of hot dogs and a soda, but it's the perfect meal for students or...nah, I won't go...
Pros: Fun to visit, good hot dogs, cheap Cons: It is what it is, no fois gras here
Kramer, Seinfeld's free-spirited neighbor, is famous for his healthy eating. In one episode he saved an eye doctor from a sugar addiction and in several he sings the praises of fruit. But even Kramer fell under the spell of Grey Papaya's hot dogs. Once,...
Pros: very cheap. great hot dogs Cons: no place to sit
Can it be? Is it possible? Did I really just get a meal for $1.95 in the middle of the most expensive metropolis in the country? Well, believe it. For $1.95(that includes tax) you can get 2 hotdogs and a papaya drink. The hotdogs are great, and these...
Pros: So cheap, great dogs, great papaya juice Cons: no place to sit
"Anthony, are you eating hot dogs for lunch?"
"Yeah, these are great freaking hot dogs."
"How much you pay for those dogs?"
"Dollar fifty."
"Dollar fifty each? Not bad."
"No....
Pros: cheap, good for you, healthy, filling, quick, 24 hours Cons: um....I can't even think of any...
Gray's Papaya is a New York institution, loved by customers of all social and economic classes. When I first moved to NYC as a very young, very poor, actor/student, I could rely on Gray's as a place to get a well-balanced, healthy, and affordable meal in...
This restaurant is one of many reasons I have been unable to become a vegetarian. It's true; I've tried many times, but I love hot dogs, and Grey's Papaya makes the best hot dogs in the city! (They are less beefy tasting than Nathans, which is why I...
Pros: top dogs in NYC Cons: get your dogs and leave quickly
This is the best deal in the city.
$1.50 gets you 2 delicious dogs. I prefer mine with the wet onions. Don't bother with any of the drinks. Same goes with the fries - nobody else gets them, so they are inevitably old, and usually...
Pros: hot dog heaven+dollar for dollar value Cons: heart association suggested dishes not on the menu!!
The big ragu lives to eat- so listen when its of food he speaks.whether you say ''chow down or bonappetite'' remember not just food but pleasure he seeks. Grays is a treasure. a classic example of car cuisine at its best, and one of the top five...
Pros: Great taste, inexpensive, quick Cons: Only can get them in the city
Are you looking for a quick, delicious, and inexpensive cuisine? Do you work or live in the city and have a quick break? Well if your a hot dog lover, you haven't tried anything until you have had a Grays Papayas hot dog. Grays Papayas has the best...
Even though the recession is long over every now and then a person can use a Gray's Papaya recession special. Two hot dogs and a fruit smoothie for under three dollars it's certainly one of the greatest New York City dining bargains.
Pros: Great hot dogs and juice at great prices Cons: No place to sit, East Side's Papaya King is slightly better
I usually only eat hot dogs at the ballpark, but not if I happen to be on the West Side of Manhattan and pass by Gray's Papaya. The hot dogs at this little dive are fabulous - grilled to perfection with a crisp skin on the outside. They have great juice...
Pros: Great hot dogs, very very cheap. Cons: Dirty
My father took me to Grays awhile ago. Ever since then I have loved their hot dogs. I mean its cheaper than the ones on the street and its a store!
The hot dogs are wonderful and they are fresh because there is always a crowd in there so new hot...
I just love this place. It's affordable with hot dogs under $1.00. Where else could you find that? When I saw how cheap their dogs I expected a mini dog on a toothpick. No, I got a huge hotdog, like a really long Kosher style dog with a bun and...
Lot's of people eat at this place, but it's generally not because the food is great - it's the deals, and the convenience. I'll take a two dollar meal where I can get it when I have to, but this is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to food in New...
OK Hot Dogs for cheap quick dining by tflyer99 ,Oct 21 '03
Pros: Cheap Cheap Cheap Prices Cons: Filthy & Surly service
I work close to Grays and on every so often i stop in there late at night since there is no other place usually open at 2am. The Hot Dogs are Ok, sometimes tasty but on whole very average, The recent Hot Dogs I had at Shea Stadium were far better with a lot better snap and flavor.
My main problem with the place is it looks like it never gets cleaned.
The floors are filthy, napkins are usually hard to find and the people behind the counter are surly. Also late at night Grays tends to attract a very unsavory crowd of drunks, homeless and Hip Hoppers.
One other thing you will notice about Grays is that the owner writes ridiculous political statements all over the outside of his restaurant such as AL FRANKEN YOU ARE OUR HERO and WE ARE COURTEOUS NEW YORKERS (which couldn't be further from the truth).
For a really great Hot Dog go to Walters in Westchester New York.
I was only there once but the Hot Dog was far more memorable.
Pros: Taste, cost, ambience Cons: I guess...no place to really sit...
I first heard about Gray's Papaya on the Matthew Perry/Salma Hayek movie Fools Rush In...so of course on my first trip to NY I had to track them down. I WAS NOT disappointed!!!!!! They are the best hot dogs ever. My husband and I say to each other at least once a week "I wish I had a Gray's Papaya hot dog"...Would they ship them to Colorado like the did in the movie to Nevada???????????
Unbeatable taste and price in NY. by pca516 ,Jul 06 '05
Pros: It's cheap and very good, open when ever you crave them Cons: Not enough establishments and some loitering that is beyond anyones control.
The best meal under $5.00 in New York there is no one out there who can match Gray's Papaya for its quality taste and it's price. When I go I try to only eat two and wind up eating like 5 with no problem. Don't take my word go check for yourself trust you wont regret it. I'm trying to buy my own if I cant have them delivered.
