Pros: An intriguing, accessible, lucid work from a brilliant writer... Cons: ... that presents some rather difficult theology.
C.S. Lewis was undoubtedly one of the premier Christian apologists of the twentieth century. One would be hard-pressed to find a more lucid thinker in the recent Christian tradition, and indeed, his remarkably accessible style has endeared him to at ...
Pros: Easy read, thought provoking, spiritual interpretation and all about heaven and hell Cons: Too short could have taken it further into heaven.
Being in a Book Club one will get a variety of different books to read. We have one elderly lady (even older than I am) going to be 90 offered the book The Great Divorce as a way to stir up the group. She thought it was hysterical and all the ...
Pros: short , procative and still relevant. Interesting fantasy even without the religious overtones Cons: Can get preachy , tail-end of book slows down.
The Top Line Clive Staples Lewis is widely regarded as one of the great Christian writers of the 20th Century ranging from Mere Christianity to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The Great ...
Pros: Where does one begin? Another great piece of work from C.S. Lewis. Cons: Wish the book was longer.
For those who haven't read anything by C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce is a great place to start. This, as the majority of books from C.S. Lewis, is an examination of the man's outlook on his own Christian belief. I, for one, have considered Lewis...
Pros: Perceptive, interesting, gracious, enjoyable. Short and memorable. Cons: None
"I'm having some problems with the doctrine of Hell," I said. "You should read The Great Divorce," they replied. After being recommended this book by four separate people - an Anglican, an Evangelical, a vicar's wife and a Universalist - I ...
Pros: An interesting fantasy to answer and provoke deep questions. Cons: I think I expected even more at the end... maybe it was too short.
Firstly, yes, Lewis is a British author, but I have no problem with that since I've spent a good part of my life in Britain and in British schools. Don't let this fact stop you from trying this book!
Pros: A creative and enlightening interpretation of the afterlife. Cons: May end too abruptly; Christian worldview may be a turn-off for some.
Lewis, writing giant that he is, amazes his audience with yet another one of his creative writing endeavors. This time, he crafts a speculative portrayal of the afterlife. Through the eyes of a nameless first-person narrator, Lewis takes his audience ...
Pros: Yet another profound work by Lewis Cons: Not long enough!! I want more.

Pros: Engaging and yet concise imaginative trip through heaven and Hell Cons: Only comes in one edition and is rather expensive -- Title is Misleading
The Great Divorce was one of those seminal works of art in my life that helped to shape my cosmology and theology. Although it is a work of fiction rather than a theological treatise, it serves to illuminate theological issues in a profound and...
Great, quick read that'll keep you coming back by bluemooneys ,May 25 '06
Pros: Perfect one day read, thought-provoking Cons: Too short, I have to read it over and over to make it longer.
Without a doubt my favorite book by Lewis. As with most of Lewis' books this tells a wonderful story, making it tough to put down. More importantly it raises many questions and gets you to think "What if". This book as paints my favorite picture of heaven.
