Pros: GREENIES are excellent for tartar and dogs seem to go bonkers for them. Cons: A bit pricey. Danger of intestinal obstruction issue see alert.
I like to troll through PetCo on a regular basis. I have 2 Chihuahuas and this is like taking them to "little Gym". It's a social outing, a chance to meet and greet other canines, a great place to check "messages" (that's what I call it when they sniff ...
Dogs are wonderful pets and companions, but lets face it, they have horrible breath. This is especially evident when they decide they're in the mood to give kisses and start licking your face. I remember reading somewhere that dogs have very clean ...
Pros: They help clean dogs teeth and freshen their breath. Cons: Some dogs have had serious problems when not chewing the product properly.
We have had two Silky Terriers in the past 18 years. Our first Silky, Misty, had terrible bad breath. She always seemed to have a ton of plaque on her teeth, and riding in a closed car with her was sometimes unbearable when she would start panting. ...
Pros: Hanna loves them. They're cute. Cons: Expensive; can cause problems.
Hanna’s been getting Greenies for as long as I remember. What are they you ask? Here are some claims: Greenies help control plaque, tartar build up and freshens breath. They are nutritious and easy to digest. There are added vitamins ...
It's the middle of the night and I'm having a familiar nightmare. I'm pinned down by a fire breathing dragon. It's a recurring dream. My eyes fly open and yup, there's Brandy my daughter's Miniature Schnauzer standing over me staring me in the face at ...
Pros: Great taste and utter joy in gnawing the heck out of this product. Cons: Our dog had digestion problems. Others have reported animal deaths from choking and digestive blockage.
First things first--Our dog and our standards We have a great dog. This review, though not about her, needs to be read in context to the situation, experience, habits and care of my animal. It also must take into account the general physical ...
~The Encounter~ One day when I taking a nap Takeshi jumped onto my bed and started licking my face, he wanted to go potty. and gosh my face stinked! Went online to look for breath aid for doggies... came across doggie mint, doggie breath ...
Pros: Cleans breath and gums. Stink-free. Cons: Expensive.
My husband discovered greenies after we were desperately looking for a way to freshen our pugs breath. There is a baby and a toddler in the household, and not being able to use the diaper genie since we live in Hawaii (it breeds mold due to the humidity ...
Pros: Tames dog breath, dogs love them. Cons: Expensive.
As Rudi said, Schnauzer breath is a problem in south Florida-Ok, maybe not South Florida, but the Xeno house. Again, as he said, there's this dog breathing in his face, very smelly breath, too. And what do you know? A 20 pound Miniature Schnauzer ...
Pros: Freshens breath, dogs love the taste Cons: Intestinal blockage risks and a high price tag
I want to state that considering the amount of Greenies sold, the incidence of blockage and death is low; however, many deaths go unreported or are misdiagnosed- so it can be hard to tell. I personally believe the weight chart they use to determine what ...
Pros: Dogs still love them. Cons: They don't have as much greenie in them.
My dog has been a greenie fanatic from the day they came out, which coincided almost exactly with his birth. He's about a 100 pounds now, so he wasn't affected by the obstruction problems some of the smaller dogs had. Never the less they changed the ...
Pros: freshens breath, cleans teeth Cons: a little expensive
Although my dog doesn't put up a fight since I've been brushing his teeth since he was a puppy, it can still be a pain. Now since I've been buying greenies to satisfy his chewing habit while cleaning his teeth at the same time, I only brush every other day, alternating between brushing and greenies. I find that they do not smell or make a huge mess like those edible nylabones. They also freshen his breath, and keeps him occupied for a good 20 minutes or so. Although it is recommended that I give one or two daily, I tend not to do this because they are high in calories and my dog gets a lot of treats during training. I buy the large size in bulk from dogtoys.com.
Pros: Dogs love them and they do work. Cons: You risk losing your dog or a large sum of money to your vet.
We breed and show pomeranians, and our dogs loved the greenies. They help keep the teeth clean too. However, my daughter's pom swallowed one whole and it got caught in her esophagus. The dog couldn't eat as nothing she swallowed could get past the obstruction. Two days later she was in for surgery. It took the vets two hours to remove the greenie and even then it could only be broken into pieces and pushed down into her stomach. The experience cost $1300 in vet bills and we almost lost a beloved pet. Needless to say, we'll never buy another greenie. I have read about a number of other small breeds that have had the same problem with greenies getting stuck inside the dog. They are just too risky to use.
Pros: They must taste great. My dog loves them. Cons: Not 100% digestible. Cause blockage and even death.
I have a one year old Pomeranian. I saw Greenies in the store and thought I would try them. He loves them. Recently I saw a story on my local news about how dangerous Greenies really are. Locally, 11 dogs had died from eating them. According to the news story, Greenies are 100% edible but only 85% digestible. The news story had two different Veterinarians talking about how the Greenies cause blockage in the bowel and they showed an x-ray to prove it. No more Greenies for us!
