Pros: Two high quality entry-level guitars Cons: See review
Well, I'm going to do it again. I'm going to put a review in the wrong category. Sort of. The guitar I'm all excited about is the Larrivee D03, an entry-level mahogany guitar that can be had for only $599 at Guitar Center. But since Larrivee isn't...
Pros: strong construction, strong midranges Cons: heavy, tone is overpoweringly midrangey
I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed with this Guild model (both this and the Guide DCE1, which I have lots of experience playing) The guitar is fairly standard: rosewood fingerboard, sitka spruce top, and mahogany back and sides. One...
Pros: big sound, good price, easy playability for the intermediate player Cons: lacks subtlety, upper range is a *touch* muted
Let me be honest with you: I'm not a very good guitar player. I've got a solid grip on the most familiar chords, I can move my way through a folk song, and I can strum fast and loud. No fancy solos, no intricate finger-picking, no Bill Frisell-ian...
Pros: Cheap price, good sound. Cons: It's not as fancy as others.
Everybody has different opinions about what a guitar should sound like and look like. Some people like black, green, red, blue, or other colored instruments. While I liked the natural, plain dreadnought styling of my Guild D4. I've heard others say...
Guild 1996 D4 6 String made in Westerly, RI by flbikryder ,Jun 26 '07
Pros: Well made. Good low & mid range. Comfortable playability. Good price. Nice look. Cons: High range not as bright and crisp as Ibanez.
Found my jewel in a neighborhood guitar shop it included a well used hard case. Asking price $600. Traded my Ibanez AE acoustic/electric and paid $400, including tax. Playability is fantastic the action is nice and low without "too much" ring. Much more sensitive to the touch than the Ibanez. I had to lighten up my strumming. Great in the low and mid range Not as bright and crisp as the Ibanez in the high range. The look is beautiful simple plain Jane. The spruce top on mine is darker than most a coffee with cream hue. It has the look of a well made instrument. This would be a fine guitar at any gathering and this model can still be found for a reasonable price. I'm so pleased I can say without a doubt this is a keeper. I would recommend this guitar.
Pros: Amazing rich, clear, loud sound Cons: Plain Jane appearance, no onboard electronics
I was browsing in my local "Mom & Pop" music store when I picked up a guitar that blew me away with its sound- the Guild D4. I wasn't really planning on buying a guitar right now, but I just couldn't pass it up. I currently own a Martin DM, a Taylor 455ce, and a rosewood Takamine EAN16C; have also owned other Taylors, Martins, and a Larrivee- and the Guild D4 sounds as good to my ears as any of them. The sound is rich, full, and LOUD, with strong bass, but balance throughout the tonal spectrum. And it plays great too.
This guitar is not fancy- not much bling, but great, clear, rich tone.
I guess since Fender bought out Guild, they don't make this model any more, but if you can find a used one (made in Westerly, RI) on eBay or in a pawn shop- buy it! You won't regret it, I promise.
The Guild D4 is like no other by taszerl ,Nov 11 '04
Pros: Great price, awesome tone, MADE IN AMERICA! Cons: No gloss finish, so it scratches easily
I have played many guitars in the past 15 years, and the D4 is the best and most rare type of guitar.
1. Deep sounds with great tone (which only grows and deepens over time)
2. There are no bracings on the back which just projects the guitar and adds to the vibrato of the guitar
3.she is a beast! You ever try to find a hardshell case for one, it over an inch wider and 1/2 inch thicker than most martins
12 years and still strumming by guitrguytx ,Dec 07 '05
Pros: great warm sound, stays in tune after long hard strumming Cons: neck and back finish absorbs hand oils, hard to clean, chips easily
This was my first acoustic guitar which gives it instant favorite status, but for comparison's sake I also perform with a Gibson J45 rosewood sunburst.
It's pushed as a beginner guitar, and it serves well for that purpose, but I've made recorded and performed with it and been mostly pleased with the results. This is a great strumming guitar. Not the best for soloing in terms of sustain and tone, but the lower action (compared to the Gibson) make it fun and very easy to play. Also, it has a great percussive snap that I appreciate and have trouble getting out of other guitars.
The larger body provides some warmth (which has improved over the years) without sounding too "boomy." When I play for myself I still reach for it first. Great guitar if you can find one!
