Okay, so regular laser printers have come down in price also, but we spent about the same amount of money for a decent black and white office printer...

Pros: Worked well the first year.
Cons: A lot of $$$ to spend for a one year printer/cartidges are very spendy.

We've had this printer for 2 years, and have had to have it serviced 3 times. Turns out there's a known toner problem with the magenta toner and another internal piece, that HP won't cover on warranty, after one year. Pretty spendy piece of equipment, that we can't use. HP tech recommends that even if they clean it and replace toner and other piece, it still may have smudges, as they can't clean all of the toner.

Pros: Duplexer very reliable.
Cons: Toner expensive and problems shown below.

10 service calls in just over 2 years. Mainly toner cartridges leaking but also incorrect colour balance, firmware replacements, Jet Direct card and Controller card replaced. Still having toner and colour issues.

Constantly changing support procedure. Communication problems between between support and maintenance contractors.

Alarming scrunch sound as paper picked up from tray. A bit picky about paper manufacturer for double sided printing: Neuseidler 100gsm seems the best.

A heavy machine.

Nice large one ream paper tray. Networking a snip. Web based remote management. Recalibrates itself automatically in quiet moments.

Pros: Great photo quality
Cons: LEAKY TONER, expect to spend some time cleaning out the insides of the printer often!

I am the Sys Admin for a major University institution and when I was asked to buy a Color Laserjet printer I went straight for the newest HP model (at the time = 2 years ago).
I bought 2 within months of each other and have had nothing but toner problems with both printers....
The Yellow and Magenta cartridges both leaked when they reached ~30% levels. After several hours with HP Tech support, they told me it was a bad cartridge (this was just the first incident, the others came later and I didn't waste my time with HP at that point), even though I only use HP toner..........

Anyway, I'm glad (in a sad way) that I don't seem to be the only one with this leaky toner issue...............
Hopefully HP can restore my faith in their products with new models.
