Pros: great for a small kitchen, holds enough dishes for a small family Cons: bad large items
"What in the world is that?" "That, oh, it's my dishwasher." "Oh.....Really... I've never seen anything like it" This is my usual conversation with any guests who come to our house and see a strange contraption sitting on the counter, next to ...
Pros: Compact, Easy to Use, Roomy Wash Tub Cons: No storage for hoses when not in use.
I owned the Haier HDT18PA 17-inch countertop dishwasher for about four years until it was replaced and given to a friend a couple weeks ago. This is a perfect unit for a single person or couple with no space for a regular-size or portable ...
Pros: Clean dishes, short cycle time, easy setup, clean dishes Cons: Can't fit everything, no heated drying, noise
PURCHASE: I purchased this dishwasher from Amazon.com in Apr. 05. Price was $159.99, but a 10% discount was available in that dept. on all purchases over $125, so the cost came down to $147 with free shipping. The item was shipped in it's retail box, ...
Pros: An attractive price...features appear to rival top makers Cons: Skimpy instructions, installation notes. lacks tech support data. No wire/hose storage back of washer.
Manufactured in mainland China this lightweight dishwasher found its way into this household bringing with it some features one would expect to find in some full sized and pricier models. Unfortunately, it brought disappointment by its inability to perfor ...
Pros: saves space, cleans well Cons: sometimes hard to fit large pots and pans
Great Space-Saver, Good Price If you have a tiny kitchen like mine, you're always looking to save a few inches of space. That usually means no built-in dishwasher, since you need that space for cupboards. Some of us opt for the portable ...
Pros: Excellent performance, small countertop 'footprint' Cons: Noisy beeps to indicate when it's 'done'
Like the other reviewers, I got tired of washing dishes. It's actually more appropriate to say I got tired of looking at the dishes I planned to do. I'm in an apartment and I found myself staring at EVERY drinking glass I owned sitting beside the sink,...
Pros: Cleans dishes very well, good price Cons: Too long cleaning cycle, hard to fit items inside sometimes
I have an old-fashioned kitchen that has never been remodeled since the 60's. It is in excellent shape except there is no dishwasher, which always bothered me. I decided to try the Haier countertop dishwasher. First of all, it is a lot bigger that I...
Pros: Very compact. Low noise. Easy sink hook up. Cons: Heavy if loaded put on rollers.
I have to say I am 2000% pleased with the HDT18PA. I live in a small townhome with a decent size kitchen but no dishwasher. Let me tell you. It is a wonder. No more handwashing dishes,no more dreading doing the dishes, the only thing I dread is putting ...
Pros: Inexpensive, gets the water really hot, nice customer service, can wash mildly dirty dishes. Cons: Breaks down frequently, very few warrantied repair shops nationwide, doesn't handle really dirty dishes well.
Please do not buy this brand if you are looking for a compact dishwasher. We bought this because we hate doing dishes by hand, but this dishwasher was more trouble than it was worth. It does come with a 1 year warranty from Haier, but trust me, you are ...
Pros: Easy hook up, cleans well for what it is. Quiet. Cons: Not an "Energy Star". Not that easy to load.
I purchased this great little machine about one and a half years ago from Walmart, which no longer carries it. I am here to say that is is one of the best purchases I ever made. Keep in mind that this is NOT a replacement for a full size dishwasher. ...
Pros: Well-built, 3 wash cycles, handsome design. Cons: Rack prongs could be better spaced in some spots. Somewhat noisy.
Good things do come in small packages. Before purchasing my Haier dishwasher I carefully researched the product then ordered one online from Wal-Mart. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it works and looks exactly like a full-sized dishwasher, only ...
Pros: Fast cycle, cleans well, easy setup, saves time (compared to doing dishes by hand). Cons: A little noisy, doesn't fit larger items, nowhere to put cutting knives/utensils.
After reading the reviews here and elsewhere, I must admit I was very apprehensive about buying this dishwasher. I had first contacted a specialized seller of different brands of countertop dishwashers, and they recommended it, but then I saw all the ...
Pros: Small size, nice drainage hose hook, still running after heavy use for months. Cons: Racks and holders are a little fragile, hoses are a bit short.
Well, after bringing back Haier's countertop model that we had so much trouble with, we decided to give this one a shot. We brought it home (it's a lot heavier than the other one!) and screwed its wheels on, then gave it a chance to prove itself. It ...
Pros: Easy to use, cleans well, inexpensive. Cons: Some items don't fit well, a little noisy.
This is the best purchase I've ever made, I think... After years of arguing about who had to wash the dishes, and sometimes changing the dinner menu to exclude dishes that were still in the sink from the day before, my boyfriend and I found the perfect...
Pros: Size and price Cons: broke after 14 months.not designed for bowls. never did figure out the vent dry
If you're reading this than you are researching this product, as I did before I bought it. All the reviews were good. The thing that was missing was TIME with this dishwasher. I bought mine 14 months ago and it completely broke the other day. ...
Pros: Stainless Steel tub, soft touch control buttons, 3 level wash, Delay Start option, compact size. Cons: Limited capacity, thin door seal which resulted in 3 leaks out of 3 starts.
This is a cute modern looking D/W. I was impressed by the Stainless Steel tub, the soft touch buttons, the Delay Start option... Once I got it connected, and after running for about 15-20 minutes, it started to leak from the area below the door. Couldn't ...
This is a great washer...my husband bought it for me for a gift...just before giving birth to my son. It is a God send! I don't know what I would do without it. We had been given a dishwasher (full-size) but it only worked for 2...
Pros: DO NOT BUY THEIR JUNKS Cons: IT IS JUNK! YOU WILL WASTE TOO MUCH TIME AND
SPACE AND GREY HAIRS
Hi everyone, we bought a Haier 18" portable dishwasher online last October 17th, 2005. Starts of the nightmare. It did not work. Symptom: all the lights of various cycles, modes, are on at the same time. It did not spin. We called the online store, ...
Pros: None Cons: Rude deceptive customer service and crappy crappy workmanship.
I bought this dishwasher 10 months ago. The wheels and castings broke within a month. No service places wanted to deal with Haier, so I had to go with someone very far away to fix it. First time the repair guy came out, Haier called and said, rudely, ...
This dishwasher was a Christmas gift to me in 2006 and i was ever so excited to bring it into my apartment! I didn't get to take it out of the box until a few days later. I noticed right away that the drain hose was going to be a pain (and it was). it ...
Pros: Small, fits on a counter. Decent price. Cons: Breaks, poor customer service, can be noisy.
We bought one of these in August, in March it stopped working. We called customer service. They had us tip it to try and "reset the float". That didn't work. Rather than have it fixed they had us send in purchase info and 12 inches of the power cord with ...
Pros: Holds plenty of dishes, automatic detergent dispenser Cons: Obnoxious beeping noise, doesn't heat water, no troubleshooting suggestions in manual.
I bought one of these in March of 2006. I've had it for about 13 months, and it just now stopped working. It's actually worked pretty well for my purposes--I live alone and it can easily accomodate all of the dishes that I've used throughout the day. ...
Pros: Location, location, location! Very small, for the tightest kitchens. Cleans well. Affordable. Cons: No hose storage. Creative thinking required for setup and running.
I like it. Sure does what I want for the money.Annoying not having a place to secure hoses after it's done, but my kitchen is so small that the size allows me to park in front of one side of the sink without being in the way & I just hang the hoses over the edge of that side of the sink. Washes the dishes quite well, but after a dinner party it takes 2-3 loads. Setup does require some "creative" thinking to fit the alloted area. And it helps if one is mechanically adept. Directions are rather skimpy, but understandable if you have a feel for an adjustable wrench.
I am still amazed at the quietness of the machine. I have had 3 portable dishwashers over 20 years, & this is by far the quietest. And it really does get the dishes clean. Stainless steel interior a bonus.
No dishwasher in apartment for 150.00 it's the best in class by terck ,Oct 17 '03
Pros: Cheap and great results Cons: Needs a stand for low clearance situations in a small kitchen
I've had this dishwasher for about a week now and it's best in class. If you have an apartment and not dishwasher look no further. For a 150.00 bucks it's a great buy and superior results. It's a "must have".
Pros:
Cycle time reasonable and two settings for light work or heavy soiled.
Easy to install in a small kitchen for an apartment or any other place
No job to hard. Dried cereal and hardened cheese is a thing of the past
Dries the dishes heated
Pressure not a problem for low pressure faucets
Self heats the water
Great reliability
Great price for what you get
Cons:
Noisy
Difficult to place in a small kitchen with not much clearance between cabinet and countertop. You'll need a high stand in these cases.
Decent Dishwasher, Bad Wheels by cgivre ,Feb 15 '05
Pros: Good price and cleans dishes well. Cons: Wheels not adequate for the weight of the machine.
I bought this product for the obvious reasons. After receiving the product, I assembled it, and proceeded to connect it to the sink. The unit proceeded to spray water all over the place. As I tried to examine what was wrong with it, the wheels fell off. I phoned Best Buy, which was where I purchased the unit and they promptly got me a replacement dishwasher. The water leak which occurred in the first unit was due to a missing O-ring, which was not really a big deal. However, I was not able to use it at all.
The replacement was usable, and continues to serve my family very well. I am very happy with how well it works as a dishwasher. However, after a few months, the wheels did fall off again. I'm happy with the way the unit functions, so I haven't bothered to fix the wheels, but it is my opinion that the wheels are not adequate for the weight of the machine. The only other complaint I have is that the top rack sprayer hits the top of plates on the bottom rack when I load the dishwasher.
Pros: Good size for small apartment Cons: breaks frequently
leaks all the time
I bought mine a bout four months ago. It has leaked frequently. I have done everything to try to amend the problem. When it does work, it cleans pretty well. When it leaks it really leaks.
Pros: Works great when it actually works. Cons: Broke after 3 weeks, doesn't work at all.
I bought mine from Best Buy. After 3 weeks, it would run the drain at the beginning and then beep non-stop (error message). I figured out that if I put water in it before starting, the drain would run and empty the water and then it would start up fine. Then, after the 30 days were up (where I could return it), the thing kept doing the same thing and nothing I did could get it to work. I called Haier and have to pay $15 bucks to ship it in for a replacement. This seems like the beginning of a nightmare.
Pros: Washes dishes. Good price and relatively trouble-free. It's a good size for my needs. Cons: It doesn't clean really dirty dishes and it is noisy.
I've had this dishwasher for over 3 years. The first unit I purchased from Menards was defective and broke within a week. I returned that one and the replacement has been no trouble at all. It washes the dishes so I don't have to! I have a small kitchen and a regular unit would take up too much of my cabinet space.
Unreliable, very poor dishwasher by ibcereus2 ,Sep 18 '07
Pros: Small Cons: Unreliable. Warranty is replacement not repair. Haier knows about problems.
Apparently some people get a good version but I have ended up with two bad ones. Think carefully before buying as if you get a bad one Haier will replace but you have to pay $15 and get stuck with the broken unit.
Electrical problems after 7 months by mfiore ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: Compact, fast, cleaned well when it worked Cons: Electrical problems; dishes are not dry even after dry cycle is run
Buyer beware. This dishwasher worked great, cleaned great, for about 7 months. Then it started tripping the ground fault in all my electrical outlets. As soon as I turned it on, the water would start, and within 30 seconds, the fault would trip. Still within its 1 year warranty so Haier America said they'd send me a new unit. That was 3 weeks ago - each time I call, they tell me it'll ship out in a couple days. Haier Customer Service stinks. Nobody can give you a true status - Customer Service doesn't have access to the Warranty department's information and you can't talk to the Warranty people.
Great little machine for cost by amanda91 ,Aug 11 '04
Pros: Great machine for the cost. Cons: Dry cycle is so so when machine is filled to capacity.
I received my dishwasher a couple of weeks ago from Best Buy (free delivery). I was a little worried when I started reading the reviews of this dishwasher. But my worries were soon put to rest. The directions were easy to understand and I had it up and running within a half hour. The only problem I encountered was when the dishwasher was in the draining cycle the hose that dumps the water into the sink drain popped out of the sink. It was a quick fix by anchoring the hose. This is a budget model dishwasher and you don't get the bells and whistles with this machine such as a chopping board counter on top. The dry cycle does a soso job - but its probably cause I pack it to the max.
Pros: Easier than doing dishes by hand Cons: Only worked for 4 months before breaking
I bought this dishwasher only 3 1/2 months ago. I purchased it because I have a small kitchen and was sick of doing dishes by hand. It worked okay when I first received it. It often had little glitches and would stop working in the middle of the cycle.
I walked into my kitchen last week to find a huge puddle of water, less than 4 monthes after purchasing this item!!! What a piece of junk!!! I only used it once or twice a week and now it is useless! I called Haier and they wont even stand behind their products. So I would save your money!!
Pros: Small, great to put in small places. Cons: Cheap workmanship.
Usually when we buy something, it lasts long past the warranty, making us feel like we got our monies worth. Not with this one. It burned out just after the warranty. Since we couldn't find a Haier repairman, we called our own. He found that the mother board burned up, burning the plastic casing. He told me it would cost more to replace/fix than the thing was worth. We had him take it with him on the way out the door. So for the price, we are left with the 30 screws it took to take it apart to look at it, plus the hose out of the back in case we need one for our washer.
We bought this for our apartment, thinking it would be small and handy. It's small alright: does nowhere near the "8 place settings at once" that it advertises...more like 3 plates and 4 cups AT MOST can be in at one time. In order to just do all the dishes that are in our sink, it takes at LEAST 3 complete loads. !!!
On top of this, the casters although correctly installed per the manual, are at odd angles and clearly do not work. On Day 1, dishes are not coming out clean (some did but some did not). I can't believe they can sell this piece of crap. I am returning mine to the store and getting a GE or Kenmore (Kenmore in particular I know to be great quality). Don't waste your money!!!!
Pros: Perfect size, Quiet running, No professional installation required, Easy connection to sink Cons: Smaller than most dishwashers, but thats what we requested, so you fit less in it.
This product has done well by us. We have had our dishwasher for almost a year and no problems. Yes, sometimes there is an occasional dish that does not come out clean, however, this is usually the case with all dishwashers. We have no problems with the wheels, no problems with the service and solved the hose storage problem by screwing metal clips to the lip on the top-back of the machine. It is not as large as other machines, but isn't that the point? The machine is so convenient due to it's size, we can't say anything bad about it. This is our first dishwasher and we did have to call customer service for help during set-up, but they were very helpful and we got it up and running right away. There's plenty of room in this machine though you can't wash more than 3 standard size dinner plates at once due to the height of the bottom shelf... but don't plan to have a large dinner party and cram it in this apartment size machine, and you'll be o.k.
Pros: Compact size. Does a fantastic job cleaning dishes. Cons: Drainage problems and problems with fitting it on the counter.
My husband and I purchased this dishwasher a few months ago because we have a fairly small kitchen and we thought it would fit nicely. Unfortunately we quickly discovered that it doesn't fit between our countertop and our cupboards. From what I've heard this is a fairly common problem. That's fine, we plopped it onto a microwave cart and hooked it up.
It ran great the first four times we ran it, then it decided not to drain out anymore. Going through the owner's manual, all I could find about that problem was that it wasn't high enough. It has a gravity fed drainage system. Well, we put it up as high as we could and it still wouldn't drain. We ran vinegar through it and everything else and finally we decided to bring it back to the store.
I must say though, those four successful loads cleaned the dishes better than any full sized dishwasher I've seen.
Pros: Quiet, nice tiny size to fit in closet and car (for moving). Cons: Hose on small side, no place to store cord or hose. Can rig something though.
Purchased this from craigslist (hence the great price) but only used it a couple of times due to my plates are on the larger size and not practical to buy new plates. Just know that is holds very little and small items.
haier hdp18pa dishwasher fire put it in garbage before it happens by hjac32003 ,Jan 08 '08
Pros: none, junk replaced twice different parts and labor costs enough let alone cathes fire. Cons: fire fire fire
this dishwasher has been nothing but problems, now it cought fire. haier said no fires have been reported but look online for reviews, youll find a different story. dont buy if you do dispose of. i had two adults and 4 kids in my house when this caught fire and luckily the cat knocked a plate off the kitchen counter i went down and found the dishwasher on fire. fair warning
WAS a great little washer by sarrellec ,Sep 25 '07
Pros: We loved the old model Cons: Haier no longer manufactures this item with an upper spray arm.
Even though the description of this Haier dishwasher hasn't changed, the manufacturing of this model has changed. It is no longer manufactured with an upper spray arm. Our old model quit working, and when we tried to order a new model, much to our disappointment, we learned that Haier has changed it so that it no longer has an upper spray arm.
So many of the vendors on the 'net still describe this unit as having an upper spray arm, that it's very disappointing to find out the unit has been changed, but the descriptions have not been changed.
I Love My Dishwasher! The HDT18PA is a Gem by pjstjohn ,Jun 12 '05
Pros: Very quiet; washes dishes very well (even without soap) on the normal cycle. Cons: No release for faucet hook-up. Put hand over connection and you're good to go.
I highly recommend this dishwasher for smaller, counter sparse kitchens. It's reasonably stylish, even though it is white. If it came in different colors (red, green, blue) it would be absolutely perfect.
Pros: Good size for Small kitchen Cons: everything else....
This thing is a piece of junk and no customer service to speak of. So much for in home service...The wheel broke off because the weld was so cheap. I emailed customer service and they gave me a list of 4 dealers to call. Two said they do not work on Haier anymore (imagine that...) and 2 were unavailable because I was out of their service area. So, I called customer service. They called back and said they found someone to come out and fix the wheel. They said they would be calling me to set up an appt. 3 weeks later, still no call. I think I will be reversing the charges on my credit card. The dry cycle also sucks.
If you really want one of these, take a ride past my house...it will be out on the curb.
2 years into this Great Specialty Dishwasher by realdonn ,Feb 03 '06
Pros: All around great product in a small package. Cons: It's smaller, a portable. Understand that when you buy. "Haier" is hard to spell.
I have had one of these for over two years - it works perfectly and well. In a small 1930 kitchen I shoehorned it in an available 19" space and permanently installed it.
The only problem was my fault for having plugged it into a outlet on the same circuit as a GFCI outlet; it kept tripping the circuit breaker. A free service call by an authorized repair tech helped me solve the problem. It did take me going to Haier's website and calling to find a repairman as they are not as common in the US - yet.
Think before you buy, read all of the reviews by kartvines ,Nov 07 '05
Pros: Low cost and will fit into an old house with limited space Cons: lasted less then 3 years
I have some concerns with this product. We have had ours for less than 3 years and it has already broken down. We have an old house built in the 40s, so very limited space to install a dishwasher. The dishwasher should have lasted more than 3 years, but I am buying another one, the same model, only because of the price, and the area that I have devoted to the dishwasher will only fit this model. I figured that trying to have it repaired may cost me as much as a new one, and would still be stuck with 3 years old parts that could fail at any time. If you notice the other review has owned their dishwasher of less than 3 years. I hope that this new one will hold up longer than the first one. I would read the other review and then make an intelligent choice it this is the dishwasher you want to buy.
FIRE HAZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by awooff ,Mar 29 '06
Pros: It did wash good the 30 or 40 times it was used Cons: Fire Hazard
THIS MODEL JUST ABOUT CAUGHT MY HOUSE ON FIRE. I'VE CONTACT HAIER AND THEY SAID THEY WILL CONTACT ME TOMORROW.
The flames were coming from the back of the dishwasher not the inside. Thank god I was home other wise my 2 dogs and 2 cats would have been casualties from this appliance.
I actually had to turn the appliance around and spray water into the back where the electrical wire goes into the machine to PUT OUT THE FIRE!
