Most every household owns a toaster and these appliances are generally among the simplest in terns of operation and ease of use. One toaster that is about as elementary as they come is the Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach Toaster Model 22605, simple ...
Pros: It's cheap. It works. Cons: It looks old quick and becomes an eyesore on the countertop.
I normally use a toaster-oven but when my old one went out, which happened as I was making breakfast, I made a quick run around the corner to the Dollar Store and bought the Proctor Silex 2-slice wide slot toaster so that I could finish breakfast. ...

If you asked me what my favorite food was, you might look at me odd. It's a peanut butter sandwich, but the bread is toasted. I crave it, and it has been my favorite snack when I'm hungry in the middle of the night. Since as far back as I can ...

A disappointment, very uneven toasting of slice sides. by daquerier ,Mar 22 '08
Pros: Cheap, if you only want your bread toasted mostly on one side. Cons: So uneven and scorch-prone, it seems best to throw it away.
Whatever happened to our American companies that could make good simple things like toasters in the past? Long ago I had toasters that worked well for decades, but the last 3 I've bought, including this Proctor Silex 22605, were made in China and they all do the same thing - they toast or scorch one side of the bread and leave the other with only a very light browning, with that being in uneven splotches. Turning the timer to get normal toasting on the lightest side always results in the other side being partially burned, carbonized. This would have been a corporate embarrassment in past years, but nowadays engineering skill seems to be irrelevant. Looking down into the wells, you can see that the heating elements are numerous and close-spaced on one side, and few and spread way out on the other, resulting in one side of the toast being overheated.
