A Great Addition to Your Coffee Collection

by patricia63126 , Mar 19 '05
Pros: No carafe to clean or replace; no messes or spills
Cons: Two hour shut off
My coffee pot stays on all evening after work, all day on the weekends and anytime in between. I am the only coffee drinker in my family, but with the amount of use I put a coffee pot through, I am extremely rough on them. After going through at ...

Awake to Fresh Coffee Every Morning

by theawesome1 , Oct 27 '04
Pros: Love the timer to brew coffee each morning.
Cons: No light in the clock area for easy reading.
I have the 47214, not 24. But they are the same as far as perks go. The most amazing coffeemaker that also causes quite a stir, not in the cup, but with friends who drop by for a coffee. They love the take a cup & get your own coffee. No pot to ...

Brew Station Ant Magnet

by bluegrass4ever , Mar 30 '04
Pros: No breakable carafe, brewed good-tasting coffee.
Cons: Takes up a lot of space, ANT MAGNET!
In spite of its bulk and the fact that it takes up more space on the kitchen counter than a conventional coffee maker, we loved the Brew Station at first because of the ease of use, no glass carafe to contend with, and it brewed excellent coffee. Then I ...

Hamilton Beach Brew Station- Best coffee maker we've ever used!

by topoftheworld , Feb 07 '04
Pros: Simple to use, works as advertised and brews a great tasting cup of coffee.
Cons: Not as fast as Bunn, but better coffee! Coffee pours slower the last few cups.
We bought this coffee maker after years of trying to find the perfect home brewing system I work at home and my wife likes to have coffee every morning when she gets out of bed. We get a new coffee maker every year or 2 and have not found any that come ...

This isn't the most expensive coffee maker but I like it

by treazured , Oct 31 '04
Pros: Inexpensive. Nicely engineered. Good coffee. Plain Jane coffee maker without lots of gadgets.
Cons: Wasn't free.
Over my 40 plus years of drinking coffee, I have owned many coffee makers. My last coffee maker was a horribly expensive Braun with all the bells and whistles. It lived less than 6 months before the electronics died and though it was under warranty the ...

Hamilton Beach Brewstation 27224

by cucumber , May 25 '05
Pros: Great coffee very fast. Excess coffee does not cook down to paint remover.
Cons: Double check coffee tank before filling carefully for leaks.
This was a replacement for three(3) prior electric coffee makers in the past 1 l/2 years. The deciding factor to purchase this model was the fact that here was no hot plate. We have used this coffee maker for about six (6) months and so far it is ...

Pros: Looks Great, I like the press to pour feature.
Cons: Too high, plastic coffee pot stains, coffee burns, filter basket messy

Innovative But Improvement Needed

by athlonjack , May 05 '05
Pros: No drippy carafe. Dispenses coffee very well. Cool looking.
Cons: Electrical bugs. Staining tank. Weaker coffee than premium drip coffee makers.

Hamilton Beach Brew Station Failure
by awbenway ,Aug 05 '04
Pros: Great idea.
Cons: Leaks (now a flood) all over the counter while brewing.
We are returning this unit for refund after using it for 2 months. The unit started to leak out the spout after pouring a cup of coffee. It would drip for a while. This small leak turned in to a flood when brewing. Although the gasket is fine, and there are no debris under the flapper, it no longer seals. Evidently it warps with the heat after a while. I saw some complaints about this last year, but hoped they had fixed some early bugs. Guess not. Too bad, a neat concept.

Not happy
by yweir ,Jul 21 '04
Pros: Like the brewing station style
Cons: After 6 months of use it seems to have problems completing the cycle.
Have had problems with it not completing the cycle, so we are having to push the button up to 5 times to complete the cycle. Hamilton Beach has replaced it once and I am in the process of them replacing it again.
It only seems to work correctly about 6 months.

Breaks often
by scottvf ,Dec 14 '03
Pros: No waiting for it to get done brewing to get a cup of coffee
Cons: Very poor construction, Keeps breaking
After I got this coffee maker my friend got one because he liked the no pot idea. His broke after the 1st week. The on/off button stopped working and he couldn't turn it on. His 2nd one lasted longer... 2 weeks, before he gave up and returned it. Mine lasted a month, probably because he used his everyday and I only used it once every 3 days. Mainly because 1 pot lasts me that long. (I reheat in the microwave) I love this pot but not if the on/off button keeps breaking.

Love it!!
by ladywings1 ,Jan 27 '04
Pros: Design, convenience, temperature control, ease of use.
Cons: I'm thinking. Have to get back with you on this one.
I received the Hamilton Beach Brew Station for Christmas and absolutely love it. I have had no problems at all and I make at least 2 pots of coffee a day, and if we have company, several more pots. There is never any "burnt" coffee taste, and the temperature is always perfect. It looks nice and neat on the counter, and is so easy to use. I honestly can't think of anything negative about this coffee maker. If I had to really get nit picky, I suppose I could say I wish I could program the length of time it would stay on instead of automatically shutting off after two hours, but that would be the only negative thing I could say about it.

Don't Do It!
by jody6869 ,Oct 20 '04
Pros: Great tasting coffee, easy to pour-straight into the mug!
Cons: Not reliable!! Quit working without warning-for no apparent reason.
I purchased this unit a week ago. It worked wonderfully and produced great tasting coffee-the first four days. Then on the fifth day...it just wouldn't work. I tried everything to get it to brew-no such luck. With 3 small children, I loved the "no carafe" feature because it was so easy to pour right into my mug, and the coffee did taste great. But for me- it needs to be reliable, and this was ANYTHING but that. Would not recommend this coffee maker.

Taking back our second one today
by sonicboom72 ,Feb 18 '07
Pros: No breakable carafe.
Cons: IT LEAKS ALL OVER THE COUNTER!!!
We bought a Hamilton Beach Brewstation from Target around Christmas time. It lasted 1 month before it started to leak. I thought it could just be a fluke so I exchanged it for another one. Then much to my disappointment the second one did the same thing after 1 month also. This is the MOST frustrating coffee maker I have ever owned. I should have never bought anything other than a Krupps!

Hamilton Beach Brew Station
by lisarf ,Jan 03 '04
Pros: Easy set up. Great Tasting coffee. Price was right !!!!!
Cons: display is hard to read-does not light up. bulky.
I saw this brew station advertised on TV and thought this would be a great gift for my mom. So far she loves it and has had no problems.

I decided to buy one since my Braun coffee maker quit. I bought the model #47224 - programable w/filter. The first 2 days was fine and on the third day I went to turn it on and it would not start. I noticed that the time display was blank and made sure it was plugged in. I had to unplug and plug back in to get this to work. I returned it the next day for another and on the 2nd day I set it up and attempted to start it and could not get it to turn on. I noticed that the time display was going crazy. It was like someone was holding the hour button. I had to unplug and plug back in to get this to work.

I plan on calling Hamilton & Beach to advise them of this problem

I love the concept of this model but it appears to have some quality control problems.

Product Defects
by janete ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: It has a great design and features when it works.
Cons: It doesn't often work.
I agree with Donald. The concept of this coffee maker is great; but, unfortunately it has major flaws. I returned my first one to the manufacturer because, as I reported to Hamilton Beach, I thought it was haunted. It would turn on and off at strange times, the clock would reset itself, and sometimes I couldn't turn it off without unplugging it. After Hamilton Beach said "We have never heard of this!" I packed up the machine and returned it for a replacement. 2nd coffee maker - same exact problems. After doing some (LATE!) research, I am not the only person that has experienced these problems. There's a major quality issue with this coffee maker that they haven't corrected yet, as I received the replacement just a few days ago.

Worst coffee system I've owned...
by donaldpopejoy ,Nov 20 '03
Pros: potless coffee maker is a great idea.
Cons: poorly made. Produces a terrible tasting cup of coffee.
This could have been the greatest coffee system ever devised... but instead it brews a "plastic" tasting cup of coffee. The coffee continues to pour out even after your cup has left the automatic dispensing lever. It's messy to use and poorly designed. The idea of a potless coffee system was great. Had Hamilton Beach used quality parts it might have been a great coffee maker.

Unhappy with my Brew Station
by sassyangel50 ,Feb 20 '05
Pros: like the style of it
Cons: Leaking where is in put together at.
I bought the brew station because i wanted to get rid of glass pots. Have only had the Hamilton Beach Brew Station for 4 months and it started leaking around middle, and now it has changed where you can't turn it on, it will brew but light is always flashing on it. You have too unplug it because it won't shut off on it's own.

Great coffee, Big problems
by elaine42 ,Sep 13 '04
Pros: Great coffee, easy delivery, no boil off, no glass to break
Cons: Grounds in the system, grounds in the coffee, coffee on the counter
Bought pot for the delivery system, which is great. We are on our third pot. Hamilton Beach has cheerfully replaced the other two. We get coffee grounds in the system when the final steam surge foams the grounds up into the shower head. Hamilton Beach has not had this problem with anyone else. We have tried different brands of coffee and now we are trying bottled water. We bought the Hamilton Beach permanent filter. This makes a great cup of coffee and the delivery system is innovative but the grounds in the coffee will not do.

Not as Bad as They Say
by crimson62 ,Nov 25 '03
Pros: No mess, easy clean up and great tasting coffee.
Cons: A little too tall.
I read all the reviews for the Hamilton Beach Brew Station at several places. I read some good ones and some bad ones. I have to say I am quite pleased with my Brew Station. I've not had any problems with it, and no more water messes on my counters. I love the idea of no carafe, it means no spilling water to get it into the tank, and no spilling coffee while trying to pour into a cup. The programmable clock means hot coffee when I get up in the morning. The coffee tastes wonderful, and cleanup is a breeze. This is the best coffee maker, and probably the style of most future coffee makers.
The only problem I have with it is that it is too tall to fit under my cabinets, but it's a problem I can live with.

A Good Coffee Maker
by cwgmom ,Jul 12 '07
Pros: Makes HOT coffee, not lukewarm.
Cons: NONE
I have tried numerous coffee makers over the last 15 years and FINALLY, this one makes a truly HOT cup of coffee. There isn't one thing that I don't like about the coffee it makes. I just love the fact that I can go back an hour later and have another GOOD cup of coffee, not with a burnt taste. I purchased this at the recommendation of a friend who received one as a gift and she is a big coffee drinker.

Love this!
by cinderkate ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: easy to use and clean
Cons: a little bulky
My parents gave me this new coffee maker after my Krupps finally bit the dust after 7 years...they bought it based on the picture of the mother holding a child getting a cup of coffee- since that is my life!
I am so pleased with this new concept of coffee making! It is easy to use, cleans much better, and the taste is great!
My parents have coffee maker envy since they bought the fancy Cuisinart Grind and Brew and are frustrated with the noise, and the mess.
Overall a great product at a great price. Sure the filters may cost you more but to buy the $9.99 permanent filter- it is still a better buy than many coffee makers out there.

Love it!!
by carotarheel ,Nov 28 '05
Pros: no burnt coffee, no carafe
Cons: plastic interior stains easily
I had originally had the Brew Station without the timer and really like it. I enjoy the fact that there is no carafe to worry about and and the coffee doesn't burn because it is not directly on the heating element. I have enjoyed bumping up to the model with the timer, it helps having coffee ready when I get up. We love this coffee maker so much we are giving it as Christmas presents to a couple of people that have enjoyed it while visiting.

Nice coffee maker.....poor quality.
by diespamdie ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Easy to use, clean and brews good coffee.
Cons: Cheap parts.
We purchased our coffee maker about 9 months ago. The added filter inside is a nice touch but we already use filtered water so for us the extra filter isn't necessary.

This brewstation is easy to clean up for the most part. Some of the small valleys in the brewpot make it difficult to clean out completely but most of the coffee holding pot lends itself to a quick wipe. One very nice thing is there is no baking soda aftertaste in the coffee like I would have expected with a plastic holding bowl.

My below average quality comes from the dripping pour button mechanism. A couple of months after we purchased the brewstation the rubber stopper inside dripped a few times but not enough to worry about. Since then things have gradually gotten worse. If we make a full 12 cup pot of coffee now it will only take about 2 minutes for all of the coffee to drip out of the brewstation.

Excellent!
by frogcop ,Nov 17 '04
Pros: Exciting concept, VERY economical.
Cons: If you want to 'pour' for company there is no pot! But who cares!
It doesn't drip, doesn't burn, has a safety shut off, no pot to drop! I'm delighted to throw out my thermal carafe maker after it leaked all over this morning!

Hamilton Beach Brew Station
by oldgeorgiaguy ,Jul 20 '07
Pros: None
Cons: EVERYTHING - Terribly frustrating
This has got to be the biggest rip-off of consumer dollars yet. I bought mine at Wal Mart in March 2007, and this morning was the fifth time my coffee brewed all over my kitchen counter, and I cannot figure out what is wrong with the thing. There appears to be a dome-shaped filter over the dispenser opening to prevent this occurrence, but guess what, it doesn't work. When I purchased this coffee maker, all I was looking for was a SIMPLE way to get up in the morning with my coffee perked, but not on the counter top and dripping on the floor. I am not looking to get it replaced, because I just disposed of the box, and Wal Mart will only give me an in-store gift card. I will NEVER buy another Hamilton Beach coffee maker -- PERIOD.

Disappointment in the Brew Station
by lovenjava ,Apr 28 '07
Pros: Self contained, all in one, easy to load with coffee, easy to fill with water
Cons: Leaks out the spout, timer doesn't work, window stays dark brown, no strength selection
I bought the brew station and loved the no carafe concept. Unfortunately, after a few months of ownership I noticed a leak under the pot and now my counter too has become warped from a flood of coffee that dripped from the spout and pooled under my microwave. So now, I have no coffee pot, a counter that needs replacing and a microwave that I am afraid will short out at any time from the coffee pool that was collecting under it. We are very glad our house didn't start on fire; so I think that is my plus side of the Brew Station, in my opinion. I wish I would have visited this site prior to making a purchase decision. :(

Now I must run out and find a new coffee pot by morning so I can enjoy my morning java.

Solved the leak problem!!!
by maggiemadeit ,Jul 22 '06
Pros: Makes great coffee. Easy to use.
Cons: Leaking problem could easily be avoided if manufacturer had mentioned the all-important spring.
After the first cleaning of my new Brew Station, I couldn't get it to stop leaking. Messed with it for hours and did endless online searches to find a solution to the problem, but only found many of the exact same leaking complaints. When cleaning my kitchen today I found a tiny little spring and wondered if it could be part of the Brew Station. Eureka!!! It fit exactly into the dispensing mechanism, and there's no more leaking! I can use the Brew Station again! Nowhere in the user's manual or the mfg. website did I find a reference to very necessary the spring, which is a bugger to get back into place, which is why this product doesn't rate a 5. So many people have had this problem, and I'm sure it's because of the spring popping out, and they never knew it was there to begin with.

Hamilton Beach Brew Station
by bluenight ,Oct 19 '05
Pros: Its a great idea to just push your cup n fill it.
Cons: But it needs some looking into, about the inside fill pale!!!
I've owned it for 14 months now an all of a sudden the handle where you pick up to refill broke ,which could cause some serious burns to someone, plus the base is starting to leak where its joined at the bottom, plus after you push the button to get to fill your coffee also drips ,probably cause by a small rubber washer inside the refill pot.So I wish the company would take inconsideration on looking into those problems ,cause like I said if someone happens to pick up the refill pale and the handle snaps someones going to get a sever burn from the hot coffee inside.Thank you An unsatisfied customer

Greatly Disappointed!
by nhnonna ,May 13 '04
Pros: excellent coffee in a fair amount of time
Cons: electrical nightmare, water drips down the back of the unit, clock difficult to read
Thank goodness, after reading some other reviews, it wasn't only me having difficulties. I really like the haunted theory! I sent Hamilton Beach/Proctor Silex customer service an email with some issues I had, they sent me another few emails, told me to clip the plug off and send it to them. They were going to replace it, but I wrote back and said I was sure they would be sending me the same unit, unless they had improved these issues. They didn't respond. I listed some issues such as comes off and on by itself, having to reset the time over and over and over again, the electrical outlet warning that actually comes with the brew station, warning not to have too hear the outlet, the clock is very difficult to read, the discoloration brown coffee staining in the front having to constantly wash the plastic inside bucket, the water drips down the back when you open the top, making a mess, the amount of water to use varies from inside the bucket to the outside markings. I was very happy with the quality of the coffee, but that was the ONLY thing I was happy with.

Hamilton Beach Brew Station seemed like a good idea
by dimack ,Nov 20 '05
Pros: No Carafe and easy to use
Cons: Need a flashlight to set clock (no light). Leaks at the spout.
I loved the idea and couldn't wait to buy it. 5 months later, the spout leaks, the last few cups of coffee dispenses very slow. I warned everyone in my family to hold off after they wanted to rush out and buy it in hopes there will be some improvements. If I have to turn around and buy another coffee maker so soon, it won't be this one. To bad, because the convenience of just putting your cup under the spout was very nice.

Hamilton Beach over rated
by clemieux ,Mar 07 '07
Pros: None
Cons: Too many to list here.
This machine might make a better cup of coffee but there are too many other deficiencies making it a poor purchase.

The filling of the tank is a big problem. You are required to fill a huge receptacle and pour it into a small area on the side. On top of this the cover gets in the way. I have opted to use a measuring cup to fill the thing.

The fill level indicator on the front is impossible to see.

When opening the tank to clean there is so much condensation you would think your in a rain forest.

The plastic container than holds the coffee filter needs to be replaced if you decide to use a permanent coffee filter. This requires a call to their customer service.

My wife says she can tell the difference in the taste between this animal and our Mr Coffee but I don't see any difference.

Love it !
by zooni ,Dec 02 '05
Pros: No coffee pot, Easy to use and clean, Simple to program.
Cons: Basket stains if coffee is left in, Large cups a bit of work.
I have read a bunch of reviews that complain about the basket dripping. I have had mine for 3 months and the basket dripped only once. The coffee and filter are above the the basket with dispensing hole. Some coffee grinds overflowed the filter one morning. It was easy to clean the grinds out of the dispensing hole and I was back up and running.

Large coffee cups must be filled by pulling the maker to the edge of the counter, no big deal.

I like making coffee in this unit so much I am drinking more coffee as it is so easy to make.

The basket has a viewing window that will stain if you leave coffee in over night so far I haven't tried to clean the stain yet. Regular cleaning is very easy as the basket is large and clans with soap and water.

Does not taste like coffee
by profesora ,Apr 19 '07
Pros: Easy to dispense coffee.
Cons: Strange-tasting coffee. On/Off button turns itself off after a while. Hard to make coffee fast.
I don't know why I would be one of the only people who noticed the taste but, after having had this exact type of coffeemaker at 2 different workplaces, in 2 different states, both times the taste was strange. Could it be possible that it so happened to be due to the water at both workplaces or is it the maker? If so, what is it about the maker that causes the strange taste?! Also, the on/off button turns off after a while whether you want it to or not.

Major flaw
by dodharma ,Apr 03 '06
Pros: convenient dispenser
Cons: difficult to clean top; leaks/floods
We thought this was great when we first got it. Very handy, kids could retrieve coffee for us (they thought it was "cool"), and no carafe breaking possibilities. However, we found out immediately that it sprayed grounds up and into the top which is attached and thus not made for easy cleaning. We solved that by covering the grounds each night with another paper. The biggest problem, after only two months of use, is that it has begun to leak, and not only leak, but flood from the valve, which makes it useless.

Isn't it possible for manufacturers to make appliances that last a few years anymore?!

Brew Station Stinks - literally
by brewster1 ,Feb 19 '08
Pros: None
Cons: Awful and potentially dangerous brew
I wish I had checked this site before buying ours as I see we are not alone with our complaint of the coffee tasting like plastic. The only way to make it palatable is to soak up all the water in the crevaces before refilling it. To me it seems as though chemicals are leaching out of the plastic - this can't be healthy.

Should have chucked this in the trash months ago...
by brookam ,Nov 19 '04
Pros: Nice idea, easy serving
Cons: Bad power button that controlled too many functions - on, off, and set timer.
I typically like Hamilton Beach products and I loved the idea of this coffee maker, but the reality was another story. My biggest gripe is that the functions for on, off, and set timer all are on one button that obviously had a problem. Every time I'd try to set the timer, the clock would reset itself. Every time I'd turn the machine off, the clock would reset itself. Every time I'd turn the machine on, the clock would reset itself. You get the idea.

Also, the clock is so dim, it's almost useless, except to make coffee on a timer. But that's a problem when the power button keeps resetting the clock!

The inside stained horribly and I was afraid to clean it agressively after hearing about all the problems with leaks, which I did not have.

I bought a nice Krups machine to replace this and a timer for my electrical outlet. It was a glad moment when I chucked this in the trash.

Leaking Pot
by marpao ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: It makes great coffee and is very easy to maintain. Maintains perfect coffee temperature.
Cons: After 6 months it started to leak, from the carafe into the base.
I am so disappointed! We got this brew station less than a year ago, and enjoyed many great cups of coffee, at first. Now it leaks like an old abandoned row boat, and it won't stop. Thought maybe a gasket had dried out so I filled the pot with water and put it in the sink to leak at leisure! No leak! It only seems to do it when the heating element is on and a hot liquid is in the carafe! Sadly it's time to toss it and start again.
