Pros: Great Audio with clean neutral sound and plenty of power Cons: Forget the video, it's worthless
Ive had this HK receiver for a couple of months now and I really am enjoying the clean natural sound of the audio. I was looking for a reasonably priced receiver with a phono input. Tuner works well and the remote is easy to use. Unfortunately, ...
Pros: Clean pure sound, low THD. Cons: Not enough bass for some
To most consumers there are two main products in in the sub-$300 stereo receiver worth considering, an Onkyo (8511) and a Harman/Kardon. People who consider purchasing a stereo receiver in this price range are generally looking for rich, clear, high ...
Pros: SOUND, POWER Cons: Bass could be increased a little bit more
When I read the reviews for the hk3480, I was skeptical if there was a lack of bass on this receiver. I have always been a big fan of deep bass but the design and the ingenuity of this receiver won me over the Onkyo. So lets get talk about the ...
Pros: Clear sound, enough power, great looks! Cons: The remote control design could be improved!
A couple of months ago my old, simple (but quite dependable) Sony equipment started to give up on me after 15 years of use (especially the CD-player). So I started to look for a good replacement for it. Originally I was thinking of replacing only the ...
Pros: Sounds great (When they are working) Cons: Terrible support
Yeah. Great receiver. But if you have a problem like i did.
(one channel went dead almost exactly one your to the date of purchase) Harman Kardon service is painfully slow. You would think with a name like Harman Kardon they would take care of you. Think again. This was my first and last Harmon Kardon purchase. They Suck. After many months (not days or weeks) They finally shipped a replacement unit (Refurbished to my dislike, and wrong model) It also was of lesser output. Then promised to ship another "New" unit, and it came to me Re-furb again with scratches. They then promised to send me a refund. To date have not seen a penny. Again they suck.
I purchased this reciever from B&H in New York. The price was really good for a reciever of this class.I hooked it up to a pair of Audition AS-F2 Tower Speakers, and a AS-P400 10" Subwoofer. I was amazed at it's power and depth.
I have tried recievers from Sony, Onkyo, and NAD,they didn't sound near as crisp and clear as the HarmanKardon.
I am very happy with my purchase! Adding a good subwoofer
is essential though.
good reciever but made to be matched with a sub. by ulua ,Nov 19 '05
Pros: Easy to use. Great stereo sound. Cons: Bulky. Needs subwoofer
I bought the HK-3480 because I read good reviews about it and I needed to replace a Kenwood that just didn't sound like it used to. I was looking for a stereo receiver and not a surround system but it was very difficult finding something with good sound quality in my price range. I was at first disappointed with the HK 3480 because the lower bass was weak although the rest of sound range was good. I hooked up a Sony SA-WM500 subwoofer to the bass ouput and it almost magically transformed the whole system. The sound is now rich and full. And it almost seemed to bring out the mid-ranges better that were sleeping in the HK-3480. My Klipsch 2.5s speakers never sounded better. Movies are great too. Punches and explosions in action movies sound and "feel" like you are witnessing live action.
Pros: Clean power, clarity, many input options with phono, great design Cons: Door to cover the front panel hook-ups would be nice
I am the last of a dieing breed I guess when I can purchase a powerhouse like the HK 3480 for such a great price. I have gone back and forth with the surround sound issue for some time but decided because of my room dimensions and my budget I would wait on surround. I wanted to upgrade my NAD receiver and began my search for a clean, powerful receiver that could switch video/ audio and had a phono input. A tall order for 2 channel receivers today. I looked at several products and then found the Harmon Kardon 3480. WOW! Everything I wanted and more plus incredible power, great retro design, clarity and imaging. I run my Mirage Omni 60's and my new HK 12 subwoofer through the 3480. The soundstage, detail and presence is usually only heard in systems twice the cost of this unit. Suddenly, music I have owned for years sounds like the first time with this new set up. Music, movies and video games all sound amazing with this receiver. A great buy.
Hot Receiver Fits the Bill by audiogeekcpu ,Aug 21 '04
Pros: Clean Clean And Clean Smooth tight bass. Cons: ???? Have to get back with you on that......
I Still have a turntable and a ton of LPs. I was looking for something to replace my R100 Yamaha receiver. This one does that and then some. My tv is near enough to share outputs and inputs so it doubles as a stereo theater system as well talk about clean. listen to dvd audio through this and a pair of Paradigm studio60s and you truly are there and near rated power no one is complaining but the neigbors. We normally associate loud with noise. So when this receiver is playing loud you are the last to know because there is no noise. AWSOME Receiver!!!!
Harman Kardon HK 3480 2 (Stereo) Channel Home Audio Receiver by spgirl0317 ,Dec 08 '04
Pros: Price, A/B Speaker Selection
Cons: Only 2 channels
Nice starter for those new to tuners. The low price and decent features are great lures and this particular tuner will satisfy most beginner's interests.
Pros: Well Built, Easy to see display, Sounds awesome, and looks it too!! Cons: Silver buttons on front are a little hard to see in low-light.
This was my first Brand New Digital Receiver, and I love it!!! This Receiver has so much power, I use it to drive 14 speakers, including a pair of Bose 901's. In fact, I'm listening to a Record through it as I write this review!! However, I do agree with others that it could use a little more bass, and maybe a loudness button, but I offset this with a Technics SH-8055 Equalizer, and an Energy encore 8 powered sub-woofer.
Subwoofer Out Is there for the Bass by scardick ,Jul 21 '04
Pros: Pwerful, clean Highs and midrange, lifelike bass Cons: None
Those who complain about the lack of bass through the 2 channels of the HK 3480 must realise that this receiver features a subwoofer out to make up for the bass needed to feel the music.
Onkyo stereo receivers and other brands are already bassy because they don't offer a dedicated subwoofer output.
So if you need more bass from your HK receiver, buy a good subwoofer, hook it up and there goes the bass you're looking for.
