Help-ma-Boab! - There's no other way to put it. When I went to the pub a few weeks ago, all the 'Real Ale' taps were off. Sacre Bleu! No flippin' decent ale to sup. I had a couple of bottles of Becks, but those dinky bottles just wont ...
Brewed by the Harp brewery in Dundalk, Ireland, Harp lager is a very good beer with just enough body to satisfy your desire for a full- bodied product, yet light enough to keep you from feeling too full and bloated.
Pros: Rich, flavorful Cons: Seems easily affected by other beers
This will no doubt be a convoluted review.
As an Irishman - or at least half an Irishman endowed with the beer-drinking abilities of two Irishmen - I desperately wanted to say that Harp was at least the equal of Bass Ale. In fact, I wanted to...
Pros: Better than most of the 'brewed under licence' lagers Cons: Not what you would call distinctive
Despite the impression you get from Epinions the United Kingdom produces a goodly number of beers, in fact a goodly number of good ales. It is therefore rare that I am to be found drinking lager, but if I do I avoid the 'brewed in the UK' Carlsberg,...
Pros: A decent crisp and refreshing lager Cons: There are better lagers for the same price
Now, when I first thought about writing this review, I was pretty sure that Harp was not always Irish. I read around a little bit, but could find nothing to back this up. I always thought it was a traditional English lager. I believe, it’s just the fact...
Pros: slightly more hops than most lagers; goes down smooth Cons: weak, watery, generic taste; too highly carbonated
I’ve never quite understood the appeal of generic lagers, but obviously there must be something about this type of beer since it’s brewed around the world and most have the same general taste. In the United States we have Budweiser, Miller ...
I had never tried Harp before. I'm not entirely sure why either. I tended bar in an Irish pub, for pete's sake. I have been attempting to expand my beer horizons for a few years now, and poor Harp just seemed to have slipped through the cracks. My...
In the pantheon of great import beers, Guinness and Bass come to mind, Harp is one of the less appreciated but still worthy members. With a gorgeous golden color, hops flavor and smooth body, it has everything that...
Pros: Crisp, refreshing lager with just a touch of delicious bitterness. Cons: It's pricey, and it ain't easy to get a hold of either.
I had heard about the greatness of Harp lager for some time, and the other week I finally decided to grab a 6-pack and decide for myself. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.
Harp Lager is brewed and imported by the good people from...
Pros: Nice bubbles, can actually taste the hops Cons: pricey
To be quite honest, I have never understood why Irish beers enjoy the reknowned status that they mysteriously have. I have sampled beers from all over the world, and I would rate most Irish beers closer to the bottom of the list than to the top....
Pros: superb taste, full body without great weight Cons: neither ubiquitous nor inexpensive in the U.S.
I've always been the sort of person to try one or two new brews whenever I'm in an establishment that offers some unfamiliar selections. However, I had my first pint of Harp Lager at a bar on my 19th birthday (I'm 27 now so I believe the statute of...
Pros: Potent taste for a lager, no aftertaste, musky Cons: How many days left to March 17th
There's nothing like a half-n-half a.k.a. an all-Irish Black and Tan. A base of Harp Lager topped with a perfectly foamed Guinness--and preferably not ice cold. The two tastes were clearly created to be enjoyed together.
I have a lot of guy friends who swear by Guinness beer, and will ONLY drink that when we go out. For me, though, 1/2 pint of Guinness and I'm ready to call it a night. While obviously a high quality beer, it's just too heavy and thick to enjoy as a...
Ah, Harp Lager! What a nice, light change of pace from Guinness. I think that heaven can be defined as follows: A sunny Saturday afternoon with temperatures around 80. You and your buddies are playing some guys from work for the ultimate prize.... a...
I Have never been a big fan of and other beer besides bud light. they always seem to be to bitter or have a funky aftertaste, well 2 years ago i was in Ga. and a girl told me to try guenis, i did and i didnt like it, well she said then try this and...
Pros: Its like Guinness without the coal tar derivatives! Cons: A bit pricey, a bit fruity.
Harp Lager from the brewers of Guinness is light golden amber colour, like the stuff from Jamaica, not the buttery Balkan stones. It produces a nice head, somewhat quick to fade, but remains effervescent substantially longer then say, Bud ...
Pros: Less filling than a stout with great full flavor Cons: The best Harp is all the way in Ireland
My first encounter with Harp occurred in the land of shamrocks and leprechauns. I found Guinness to be fairly tasty in the pubs, but after a few I felt completely weighed down. With my stomach sinking like a rock, a cute little Irish bar man...
Pros: nice aroma, interesting hint of Caramel Cons: too bitter
I really wanted to Love Harp Lager, but I don't. Several people have raved to me about this beer, so when I had the oppurtunity to try a bottle I was ready for a treat.
The cold truth is that Harp is a good beer, but not a great beer. The...
Pros: crisp and clean taste Cons: getting expensive because it's so popular
Only in the last couple of years have I found Harp. And even then it was in a very roundabout way. I spent the better part of my 20's drinking microbrews based here in the US. Eventually, though, I started drinking mainly Irish beers, and those were...
Pros: Nice flavor, not overly priced for an import. Cons: (Hic) No, I've never been convicted.
... it makes me a jolly good fellow, as Tom T. Hall would say.
Harp is a fine Irish lager, with an interesting, hoppy flavor. I'm not a beer snob, but I do prefer imports, microbrews, etc., to the standard yellow water that comes out of the...
Pros: Excellent, smooth taste. Very refreshing when served ice cold, just as good served at room temperature. Cons: Hard-to-find item, somewhat expensive.
Harp Ale is a little-known beer brewed in Dublin, Ireland, and shipped to the United States via a Connecticut hub. It is relatively expensive, as I well know ($32.50 per case at last purchase - Pennsylvania), but my taste buds offer to...
Pros: lightness, taste, no after taste Cons: not for light weights or those with no food in their stomach
As an avid pilsner drinker, I was skeptical about my friend's argument that Harp was a great tasting beer. I tried Harp a few times in a bottle and wasn't too impressed. Last Saturday night, I broke down and ordered Harp, but this time on draught. I was...
Pros: Smooth, balanced taste; great with food or without; no funny aftertaste Cons: Costs more than domestics and cheaper imports, but it's not too pricey
As I've said before, I'm no beer expert, not by a long shot. But I know what I like and what I don't.
I don't like a beer that's too bitter, or that has a strange aftertaste, and a lot of them do. This one never does.
Harp is a wonderful beer when your looking for a light bodied but flavorful beer. I keep it on a list of good standbys when I either can’t find what I’m looking for or I want something simple. Please don’t think thought that it isn’t the fine beer that...
What an experience!!
I am a regular domestic brew guy, but when I tried Harp on my birthday I was sold on it's bold flavor! It is a very good way to complement a hardy Irish meal. Anyone who wants to explore something other than the same old...
Pros: Great taste, not bitter, not heavy Cons: None
I would respectfully disagree with the epinions member who called Harp "little-known," at least here in the NYMetro area, it is one of the most popular Irish beers. Brewed by Guinness, this is a great, great beer. Many consider Stout to be...
As a longtime Bass drinker, I was interested to try Harp and compare. I was pleasantly surprised. It is light and not overly sweet, with a well modulated flavor and no aftertaste. Not too hoppy. It shares some of the same slight citrus notes with Bass....
Pros: very thick and robust taste Cons: not a cheap buy
I was recently introduced to harp by my boyfriend. He is always trying different brews and I am always looking for an ale or beer that will give me a not so watered down taste. I found that in harps.
If you have ever tried Merlin's ale and like...
Pros: refreshing and delicious Cons: price? you get what you pay for and its worth that extra dollar or two
a very well brewed beer with the right taste. It isnt too bitter but rather smooth and easy to drink. its refreshing, alittle sweet and it doesnt have that over carbonated feel to it.
It is sharper when its cold, and sweeter when its warm and thats...
Pros: Light, but not too light. Refreshing.
Crisp and cool. Cons: Somewhat bitter. Needs to be ice cold.
Living in Florida, it took a long search to find a six-pack of Harp. Unlike Northern Ireland, one only needs to whistle and a friend will appear at your doorway with a nice blue, carry-out bag in hand, busting with the godly stuff. Settled in front of...
Pros: it's absolutely delicious!! Cons: hmmmm...can't think of any
wow..what else can i say?first off, anything from ireland is great, how else could it be?we're gods chosen people ya know.anyway, why do i love harp?because it's great stuff!!a nice not too dark, not too light lager,it fits perfectly into a pint glass,and...
Two different versions of Harp lager are currently on the market. The first version is the one that has been on the market for years. It is brewed in Dundalk, Ireland, and says so on the bottle. This beer is excellent...full of hoppy goodness and...
This is my absolute favorite lager, it is very tasty without the aftertaste!I like to mix My Harp with Guiness Extra Stout sometimes,
But I mostly drink it by itself.
I first tried it at a local sports bar and was very pleased with the...
Harp has always been one of my favorite lagers. Last night I decided to pick up a 6 pack and had to got to 7 stores before I found some. I brought it home and poured a bottle into a mug and took a sip. Something wasn't right and I was immediately suspicious, remembering what happened to Fosters Lager. I put on my reading glasses and checked the bottle and, sure enough, it was brewed in Canada and tasted like all other Canadian swill, tasteless and watery. Another great tradition ruined by letting the Canadians, who couldn't brew a good beer to save the queen, take over brewing for US import. "God almighty" can anyone tell me where to get the real thing, ie brewed in Ireland?
