Pros: Detects WiFi availability and signal characteristics. Works as a directional antenna. Standard USB connector cable. Cons: Signal report does not remain on, making pinpoint location impossible. Marginal instruction book.
This machine does what I ask it to do but I don't care for it. That's a personal problem, not a failing of the WiFi locator. This machine is about the size of a deck of playing cards. It has a plastic case that's coated to look like fake chrome. In my ...

Pros: Holds signal, extends range. Cons: An analogue meter would help point it better than the five signal strength leds.

Much Better Reception Than Built-In Wi-Fi
by lewisedge ,Dec 15 '05
Pros: Excellent reception. Maintains a strong, reliable data stream Cons: Case is cheap looking and flimsy. Support is difficult to contact and slow to respond.
This gadget gives me much better Wi-Fi reception on my laptop and fewer drop-outs than my computer's built-in WiFi adapter. The included software and configuration utility is much more flexible than using the Windows-XP configuration software. Its built in battery charges when device is plugged into a USB port.
Directional antenna detects Wi-Fi G & B and shows whether or not the signal is encrypted without having to be connected to a computer. Great for road warriors. Pumps up weak signals enough to make them usable.

Good Product - Poor Rebate system
by trapoza ,Dec 27 '05
Pros: Good connectivity for weak signals Cons: No continuous detection mode.
Hawking products are OK, but do not purchase ANY product from the company that has a rebate attached to it. The rebate processing center they use is terrible. Don't expect your check in the time stated.
The detector works as advertised and was very useful during my vacation, however, a continuous detection mode is needed.
