Pros: Mayer branches out and adds new musical elements to his repertoire. Cons: Not all of these new elements work as well as his old sound.
Summary: The singer-songwriter genre is a difficult one to pin down. It seems that the simpler and more stripped down an artist can be, the greater their success. Unlike so many other styles, the music isn't the main focus, but rather the song craftsmanship. To ... read more

Pros: Great lyrics, good music and catchy songs Cons: CD 'Extras' are poor marketing tactics that detract from the disc.
Summary: I was lucky enough to 'discover' John Mayer on WXPN in Philadelphia, and while for the longest time I couldn't have told you anything about him, nor named any of his songs, I know that every time they said his name, I was liking his stuff. A ... read more

Summary: Author's note: Yes, I did review "Heavier Things" before, but as some of you know, I blew a gasket and deleted a bunch of my reviews-I needed an excuse to re-write them, anyway. Look for more of these re-writes in the future. Try to imagine ... read more

Pros: *Something's Missing*, *Clarity*, and *New Deep* are outstanding. Lyrics are solid and great melodies. Cons: *Come Back to Bed* and *Wheel* both seem to drag on a bit.
Summary: After a great debut CD, Mayer's second eagerly awaited effort does not disappoint. I can listen to this CD many times over and not get tired of hearing it. It is really that good. He seems to be getting into a bit harder-edged territory, but manages to ... read more

Pros: Something's Missing, Clarity etc. The emotion conveyed Cons: Daughters; NOT Mayer's best song
Summary: I got this album about 3 months ago and listened to it religiously for a good while after. It is a very good, emotional album with (by and large) strongly written and executed songs. There are some weaknesses... Songs such as "Daughters" are never a ... read more

Pros: 5 great songs, not short songs Cons: 5 filler songs, some weird songs like 'daughters'. Not creative song lyrics, a little repetitive.
Summary: I was antcipating this album after Mayer's 1st album, 'room for squares.' This album is a solid album. Not great, not bad, just solid. The album starts off slow with 'clarity'. It is a weird sounding kind of song, but pretty cool. The next song, 'bigger ... read more

Pros: Best tracks : "Bigger than My Body", "Daughters" Cons: Length..only 10 tracks.

Pros: Daughters, Somethings Missing and all those little upbeat pop tunes. Cons: Almost none except for Come Back To Bed

Pros: Several cuts are well-written and have a bit of a "groove" factor going on. Cons: WAH! I want my acoustic guitar!
Summary: I have an inherent bias against John Mayer's new CD. I can't help it. I think this has something to do with my relatively newfound love for the acoustic guitar. I can't help it - ever since I started learning to play the instrument, it became ... read more

Pros: Easy to listen to, impeccably produced, Mayer's signature voice Cons: Uninteresting, uninspired, recycled pop melodies, devoid of Mayer's real talents
