Pros: Good mouthfeel, satisfying and refreshing brew.
    Cons: None come to mind.

Summary: As a beer enthusiast, I find myself drinking beer in brewpubs throughout the country and appreciating the fine brews they offer. I love the chocolatey stouts, the malty bocks, the hoppy India Pale Ales, the yeasty Belgian triples, the smoky rauchbiers….I ... read more

  • Henry Weinhard's Blackberry Wheat...the best beer ever brewed!

    Jul 19, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Not sweet like a lot of other "fruit" beers (writing about Blackberry Wheat)
Cons: Can only find it in the Pacific Northwest!

Summary: I'd like to reiterate that I'm writing about HW's Blackberry Wheat beer, not the Lager, although I think the Lager is very good, but it is nothing compared to the later. This beer is very similar in flavor to the Private Reserve...a fairly ... read more

  • Training Beer Graduate! Henry Weinhard's Lager

    Mar 22, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Great step up for those used to flavorless American lagers like Budweiser.
Cons: I'm now expected to branch further from training beer territory.

Summary: Beer snobbery is alive and well in the green forests of the Pacific Northwest. When I moved here from Ohio, my coworkers liked to make fun of my love of Budweiser, Bud Light, and Hudy Delight (yes, that's a real beer!). They ... read more

  • Best Value on the Market

    Jul 17, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Great Value
    Cons: Too dark for some

Summary: The one sure thing about Henry Weinhardt's Private reserve is that it is the best beer for its price. At about $7.99 a twelve pack(only in bottles), it rivals Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, and other even more expensive imports. This makes it a great beer to ... read more

Pros: Better than macros, good taste, great price
    Cons: It's no microbrew!!

    Jun 14, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: More flavor than American lagers
    Cons: Bitter and skunky

Summary: Note: The beer reviewed here is Henry Weinhard's Blue Boar Pale Ale, not Henry Weinhard's Lager. Both Henry Weinhard's Blue Boar Pale Ale and Bud Light are inexpensive, generally available for about $8.50 per 12-pack, $6.50 when on sale. Both ... read more

    Pros: Reliable, tasty
    Cons: doesn't stand out

Summary: When I have to buy a beer, and I don't have anything special in mind (Redhook, Alaska, etc), Henry's is what I turn to. All of their varied options are good and tasty, but I'll stick to the Private Reserve. Bring it on. This is my beer, and ... read more

Pros: Inexpensive. Stands the test of my maturity. Better than almost any macro brew.
    Cons: Not quite spectacular.

Summary: I'm happy to say that Henry's is the only beer to survive the test of maturity. That is: Undergrad I guess we were beer snobs. We didn't often pick up a case of Keystone, and really only had terrible beer when we spent some ... read more

Pros: Cheap price for a premium tasting beer
Cons: Not in every liquor store

Summary: Henry Weinhardt's makes quite a few varieties of beers, not necessarily only a lager. The beer most commonly comes in form of a twelve pack, which at $7.99 is not a bad deal. The taste is very much premium indeed. My personal favorites are ... read more

Cons: The only cons are the other Henry's beers. 'Nuff said.

Summary: Ok - I've been drinking what I consider "Good" beer for many years.  The reason "beer snobbery is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest" is that we've been spoiled by yummy microbrews for so long that we can't fathom why anyone would want to drink ... read more
