Pros: Easy to navigate menu, inexpensive, 14 easily accessible shooting modes, crisp images, easy downloads. Cons: LCD screen could be bigger, no red/blue filters, burst mode takes long to process
I recently acquired this camera through a silent auction and managed to pay only $175. I didn't really know anything about and just bought it because it had 6.2 megapixels and it was cheap. Now that I have had the camera for a couple of weeks, I have ...
For several years I’ve looked at digital cameras while the image quality has improved and costs have dropped. Since it is an electronic product though, I was also concerned about durability. When I found this camera as a special buy on the Wal-Mart web ...
Pros: Extremely easy to use; intuitive in-camera coaching; plethora of shooting modes Cons: Small LCD; external media not included; colours tend to be a bit oversaturated.
Although I purchased this camera for a relative just entering the world of photography, I couldn't help but use (and admire) it for a while. After all, the 6.2-megapixel R717 is a pleasure to hold, thanks partly to its rubberized body and brushed-metal ...
Pros: Very easy to use, on-camera assistance with photos, lower price for a 6.2MP camera. Cons: Could take better quality photos, though usually they turn out just fine. Some shutter lag.
The Hewlett Packard R717 Digital Camera is the first digital camera I've ever owned and I'm glad I've got it. This camera has all the major features you would expect for an everyday-use digital camera, higher megapixel quality, and for a quite ...
Pros: Great macro, zoom, menus, colour screen. fits my big hand ok, factory support is 2nd to none. Cons: Battery life, inconsistent auto mode, needs tripod for macro and zoom, and image stabalizer.
Bought a new R 717 on an after christmas sale, new in box. Read manual completely, cover to cover. Picture color balance was very good, auto focus was pretty good, but never razor sharp. The Macro function was superb, but you HAD to have the ...
Pros: Looks good, decent picture quality, loads of features. Cons: Color quality varies, horrible video quality, battery life marginal
I picked this Camera up about 2 months ago after my try with a cheap Aiptek PDVR failed to satisfy me and my Sony 2.0 megapixel camera was just too ancient. My friend had bought the same camera about a year ago and paid $349! So after I saw the same camera for $149 I figured it would be a steal. I should of did my homework. Yes the camera takes decent, sharp pictures, but thats about as far as it goes. The color varies from shot to shot, sometimes the auto focus can't decipher what to lock on to, video mode is straight up horrible (my Aiptek P-dvr takes better video) and if you play around with the camera on the battery drains fast. If I was to do it over again I would of spent the extra $50 bucks and got a Canon Elph.
Pros: Great software. Easy to program. 24x zoom captured Mickey climbing the Matterhorn from Main St. Cons: I can't think of anything.
I just spent three days at Disneyland. Family reunion, kids growing up, that type of thing. The combination of the R717 camera and R-series dock was wonderful. Easy to follow instructions. Camera was adaptable to many situations. It captured great images from simple portraits to fireworks pictures on a tripod. The built-in help tips came in handy. Programing was a breeze, and the built-in red-eye removal before downloading the image was very simple to operate. The ability to show the images on TV using the camera and the dock helped us share pictures back at the hotel room, and helped to know which images to send to everyone once we got home. I am very happy with this purchase.
Great camera, but NOT very hardy by ralkjsadoi ,May 08 '06
Pros: great design and looks Cons: VERY fragile!
Well, I've bought 2 R717's now, and I now have 2 broken R717's. With the first one, I had let my wife borrow the camera and when I got it back, the LCD screen was broken and useless, ie. no images could be displayed anymore. I chaulked it up to bad luck and perhaps the fact that my wife had not taken the care that I would have when using the camera (of course I didn't tell her that). Well, I liked the design and picture quality of the camera so I bit the bullet and went and bought another one. Low and behold, after a few months of usage, I now have another R717 with a broken screen. I have always been very careful with my digital cameras, especially after the first incident, and I couldn't even think of when it might have been jostled or abused in any way for it to have a broken screen. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I don't know if all digital cameras are quite this fragile, but I'm convinced that this particular model is very fragile indeed. Chaulk it up to experience I guess...
Good Camera For The Price by adawson21 ,Feb 19 '06
Pros: Price, Picture Quality, Red Eye Reduction Cons: Battery Life, Flash Can Take A Long Time To Charge
I bought the HP R717 after my son broke my Canon Powershot A520. Looking around various websites led me to this camera which seemed attractive due to it's high megapixels for a low price. Since buying this camera I have been very pleased with it's performance and love the quality of the pictures it takes. I primarily use it for pictures inside our house but when I have taken any photos outside, the quality has been great. One problem I run in to with some regularity is the Live View mode doesn't work due to a low battery. I assume this can be fixed with a battery upgrade, which reminds me that the rechargeable battery that comes with the camera is a great addition, not batteries to buy! Also, the camera can store photos on it's own hard drive as well as supporting an SD memory card. Finally, I love the red eye reduction feature that is right on the camera. It's great to do right after taking a picture to save a little time after the files are downloaded. All in all, a great little camera for the price!
Pros: Good pictures, easy to use, good value Cons: Video in lower-light situations can be grainy and somewhat low quality
I bought this camera about a year ago from Microcenter, because I wanted a cost-effective camera that would still take decent pictures. The pictures are great and the camera is easy to use, you can easily select between manually focusing and autofocus. The menu system is good, and there is a built-in help system that will help you with almost any task and option. My only complaint is that the video isn't too great (it seems to have difficult with some lower light situations in ambient light, such as overcast days) but other than that it performs just like I expected. I would definitely recommend this camera to others.
