Pros: Helps your pets appetite return and gives them renewed interest in food. Cons: The cost if on it for a long period of time.
In 1998, I was playing with my dog Lady and noticed that she seemed to be loosing weight. She was eating but she had also become nauseated when she ate. This wasn’t right, she had always been a good eater, if it was something she liked. I took her to ...
Pros: Good nutrition for older dogs is important; Hill's Science Diet has really helped our PUG! Cons: Might be a tad expensive, but worth it for man's best friend.
(Thanks go to LadysMom for adding this item to the database!) I took my pug to the Vet recently because I noticed that her hearing and sight didn't seem to be quite what they used to be. After all, she is pushing 10 years of age and that, ...
Pros: can entice sick animals to eat Cons: low-quality ingredients, very expensive, sold only by vets
Last summer my cat got out the back door and was missing for 3 days. When he finally decided to return home, he was dehydrated and had a swollen leg complete with hole in his foot. He was immediately taken to the vet to be checked out. The hole was ...
Pros: easy to work with, palatable, calorie-dense Cons: pricey but worth it
Cato the beagle mix was a dog that was all heart. He climbed chain link fences, gave the meter man hell, and wanted to go on long walks with us, even while he was slowly dying of liver and kidney failure due to old age. He was a trooper. Three ...
Pros: reduces tartar buildup, more convenient than brushing your dog's teeth Cons: none really
We have an adopted black Lab mix dog (mostly Lab) that is 3 years old and very hyper. At her last vet checkup, the vet said the dog (Molly) had tartar buildup and we needed to do something about it before it got to the point that we needed to do a ...
Pros: It has every thing a cat or dog needs to survive. Cons: Trying to force feed my cat.
As you may have read a review I wrote about a month ago, you will know that my cat Y.T. is getting ready to pass away. Len and I had been watching him eat a cat treat one day, then nothing the next. He would drink water from the toilet bowl, but now he ...
Pros: Got it for free with rebate form Cons: Price, ingredients, our 2 cats refused it and walked away
Last month my daughter and I made our dreaded annual pet shots/check-up trip with our 4 dogs and 2 cats. Dreaded because the drive is 2 hours with 4 dogs panting and jumping around and 2 cats meowing in their carrying kennels. We have 2 kitties. ...
Pros: Works, healthy, generally the best option... Cons: EXPENSIVE
When it comes to fat cats, I have something of a freak of nature. My cat Dewey is fat. Not fat like Maine Coon or fat like a little chubby. Dewey has rolls and rolls of puckered fat draping his squat frame. His orange and white cow-style print fur is ...
When Cuddles was diagnosed with kidney failure, she spent a week in the hospital getting tube fed and hydration through IV. When the vet decided to let her come home, he said her prognosis wasn't good, he sent us home with her and told us to get her to ...
Pros: non that I could see Cons: BHA/BHT/corn/wheat/soy
I feed a high end Quality kibble to my Akita. They have eaten this food since they began solids. When they were very young, I ran out of food, ran to the grocer and picked up a bag of something??? They ate it and vomited all kinds of colors. I knew I'd ...
Pros: Very high in calories and great for critical animals in need of gaining weight. Cons: Very high in calories not ment for general feeding.
AS a few of my other reviews have stated I work in the veterinary field. This is a well known diet among the veterinary world. A/D is among the veterinary prescription diet line and can only be purchased from a veterinarian’s office. This diet was ...
Pros: Even sick cats/kittens love it! Cons: Expensive.
In 2002, I found a tiny little kitten hiding in a cage in an animal shelter under a male black cat. This kitten was very fluffy and probably barely 6 weeks old. His fur was so matted and dirty that we couldn't even look to see if he was male or female. ...
Pros: Mother cat LOVES the product & tooth problems are often associated with other medical issues. Cons: Pricey and I don't know of an alternative. Would like something with less calories.
The -they- is Kismet the mama cat (1 1/2 years) and the two kittens (6 months) that are living with her.
From the very first moment I gave Kismet a serving, she loved it. In fact she had been eating the kitten food I've been providing (Purina One - Growth and Development for Kittens)and since the T/D is provided she doesn't generally go near the kitten food.
On the other hand, the kittens won't eat their Purina One unless there is some T/D in it--they let me know this quite vocally!
Expensive but makes a great treat by cynamun ,Sep 01 '04
Pros: Great treat for a great price
Removes tartar without causing trauma to your cat Cons: Expensive as a regular food
Only sold by vets
A couple of years ago I adopted a six year old cat and took her directly to my vet for an exam. The vet said she was in great health with only one problem - she had lots of tartar on her teeth. After a year of feeding 95% dry food, she made no improvements and my attempts to brush her teeth were...well she's a cat. They warned me that cleaning a cat's teeth requires general anesthesia and I can only imagine what it costs.
I saw a different vet the following year. She gave us a sample of Feline t/d. Within weeks, Teena's teeth were tartar-free except for a small amount on the very back teeth. I never feed this to her as her food. It's only a treat. She is not a foodies but she loves her "tooth treats." They are great treats because they are round and roll when tossed. My 19 year old loves them too and sometimes catches on in mid air.
t/d is expensive for a regular food but does a fine job as a treat.
t/d is a fantastic tartar control food by york0001 ,May 04 '05
Pros: Tartar control, tasty Cons: Too tasty-cat got fat
I have a 11 year-old FIV+ cat and when she was diagnosed, my vet recommended t/d for tartar control because gingivitis is a common infection in FIV+ cats that will eventually kill. I mixed the new food with the old (a smaller kibble) and my cat quickly learned to pick out only the larger t/d kibble (the larger size is to ensure chewing to remove tartar). She loved the taste/smell of t/d and think it was a treat. She has been on t/d for over 10 years and her gum is still very healthy, which is a blessing because I still have not been able to brush her.
Cats' tastes can be quite exclusive and I feel lucky that my cat wasn't too picky and can take advantage of this great product. To prevent finicky behavior, I stuck with 1 flavor of wet food and 1 flavor of dry food for the past decade.
This food does have a high fat content for my aging cat and we have to limit her intake. Once we started to count kibbles, her weight came off.
