Pros: Cool mist; ultra-quiet; visible mist; easy to fill and clean Cons: Cannot be used with vapors; expensive
Well, after THREE trips to Target to return either defective or uneffective humidifiers, I am pleased to say that the fourth one has finally done the trick. This humidifier is very easy to use. The design of the tank is such that it is easy to fill ...

This unit can be pricey but does the job
by teddavid ,Feb 11 '07
Pros: Quiet, stylish, efficient Cons: Pricey if you buy it at the wrong place
I needed a unit to humidify the air and I needed it in a hurry. No time to comparison shop, so I got it at a drug store chain and got ripped off .. paid 69 bucks when it can be had for as little as 45.
That said, it is whisper quiet which is key to me as I needed it for a radio studio.
It cranked up the moisture level to 43% from 20% in an hour in a small room...but once I opened the door humidity dropped to 34%.
Unit has a dial that for the life of me I cannot figure out... that is, I have no idea what it does. It makes no diff in the moisture being released. The key is the damper on the tank. That does control how much gets out. At no times were horizontal surfaces made wet, which was also a key issue for me with electronic equipment in close proximity.
Bottom line. get one but do not pay more than 40-45 bucks for it.

Bought two; both failed within one week
by dkamath ,Jan 08 '08
Pros: Very quiet, can direct mist direction Cons: Both units failed within one week.
I bought one of these Vick's humidifiers. It worked great for about 1 week. Then one day I noticed it wasn't running, even though there was plenty of water in the tank. The power supply must have died because the unit would no longer power on, no matter which outlet I plugged it into.
Returned it by swapping it for another of the same model. This one worked for about 3 days, then started pouring out some serious white smoke (not mist; smoke!). Didn't trust it, so returned it also.
I won't buy another one.

Didn't last very long
by brianx22 ,Apr 16 '09
Pros: When it works, it really does bring up the humidity in the room. Cons: Deminiralization cartridges must be changed monthly and cost $7 to $10 each.
My wife and I bought one for my son's room in December of '08. I diligently changed the deminiralization cartridge monthly but by February of '09, very little mist would come out of it at all. It is now April and the unit is dead. I went into my son's room one morning and smelled something burning. The unit was dead no matter what outlet I plugged it into.
So, it lasted the winter but that's it! I'm a bit annoyed that I now have to figure out how I can return it or figure out the warranty on the unit. It wasn't cheap ($60). I would not buy a unit of this type again.
