Pros: Suction EXTREMELY powerful, tools conveniently "on board", cleans well, handy hose. Cons: Heavy weight, Hose not long enough, very loud. Warning: Has been RECALLED! Check Hoover website!!!
********* UPDATE May 2006 *********** Well folks, I have some very bad news. My Hoover Windtunnel blew up last month. Literally. I was about to vacuum the rug and it suddenly made a popping sound and then the motor started to die, and grey smoke came ...
Pros: Fairly priced, powerful, outstanding filtration. Cons: Short attachment hose
I wrote a review about the Dyson Animal which I returned (see my Dyson Animal review) and later purchased the Hoover Wind Tunnel self propelled. This web site is designed to aid consumers in the purchase of products. I welcome comments and questions to ...
Pros: Excellent Pet Hair Removal
Bag Full Indicator Light
Clean Indicator Light Cons: Noisy
Tool Holder Lid Falls off easily
My wife and I have a border collie that sheds a lot. Although we owned several vacuum cleaner brands, nothing seemed to work. When guests would visit, we would have to vacuum the carpet and then rake the dog hair out with a pet slicker brush. We thought ...
Pros: nice design, sleek Cons: heavy as all get out
When my old Bissell stopped working due to an accidental run in with what was left of my Christmas tree, I decided to go searching for a nicer, more suck-ing friendly, probably more expensive vacuum. I don't know if it's the economic downturn, but there ...
Pros: durable and reliable, great suction, lightweight and attractive Cons: short hose.
When we moved into our new house we also got a big change... instead of hardwood floors, we had carpet. The previous owners had a big pitbull and the carpet was all coated in the fur. My first job was to run out and get a vaccuum. I first called ...
Pros: Powerful suction, good length on the hose and power cord. Easy assembly. Reliable. Cons: Blow-through dust is not good for allergy sufferers.
We bought the 6439-900 after reading about it in "a leading consumer magazine", where it was very highly rated. We paid $239 (a regular price at a discount store)after shopping around. Assembly was quick and easy, with clear instructions. Only a few ...
Pros: Suction; Red/green dirt indicator lights show areas that have dirt in them; Self-propulsion feature. Cons: Poor reliability; belts stretch too soon. Quality once seen in Hoovers now is gone.
The Hoover Self-propelled Windtunnel vacuum cleaner (U6439-900) we bought about a year and a half ago was attractive, as the other reviewers have commented upon, especially for the suction the unit creates. We bought ours because we THOUGHT Hoover had a ...
Pros: Cleans very well. Dearly wish it was not prone to costly breakdowns. Cons: Prone to breakdowns even with a gentle and careful owner. Costly repairs.
My last vacuum lasted 17 years without any repairs. Bought the U6439900 2 years ago and have spent over $200 on repairs. About 2 months after purchase an INTERNAL plastic part broke; not a part that could be damaged by user. Hoover would not pay for ...
Pros: Liked the self-propelled feature. Ran great for 2 years. Cons: Will barely outlast the 2 year warranty. Dangerous. P.O.C.
Purchased 9/06 and it "Died" 9/08... Worked great for 2 years (length of the warranty) and I only ran it once a week. Then, suddenly, a burning rubber smell alerted us to a problem. We replaced the belts and checked for clogs and then turned it back on. ...
Pros: Really nice when it works (unfortunately that's VERY rare) Cons: BELTS, BELTS, BELTS, and yes... BELTS! (Are you listening to any of us Hoover?)
Buy this if:1) You're lonely and want something that makes you a "regular" at your local repair shop.2) You love to experience the frustration of buying something that you thought was synonymous w/ quality but is now more closely related to ...
Pros: Great suction, Long cord, Stylish appearance. Cons: Heavier than most. Extremely loud(earplugs should be used).Hose is short.
I have been a Hoover vacuum owner for many years and naturally went back to them for a new one.I read the positive Consumer's Report and the mostly negative reviews from actual customers at several websites. I bought it thinking it could not be that bad ...
Pros: The thing will suck a 20 pound fish through a 1 inch pipe. Cons: It weighs a ton, throws belts, and is made of plastic that breaks.
It is, and it sucks everything up then it throws the belt. This takes 15 minutes to fix. The thing is made of plastic so the part that holds up the handle broke and it falls to the floor. This thing weighs a ton so you better workout to get bulked up otherwise you will need two people to move it. This vacuum is better suited for astro turf at your local stadium and not for the common home.

Pros: when working, vacuums relatively well Cons: breaks down far more than it should. Absolutely cannot handle pet hair
I initially bought this vacuum as it was highly rated by Consume Reports. I spent $250 thinking that would purchase a very good, efficient vacuum. Unfortunately I was wrong. In the 2 years that I have owned the machine, it has been in the repair shop at least 4 times and I have spent close to $200 paying for these repairs. The belts on this vacuum snap extremely easily. For instance, if you accidentally vacuum up part of a shoelace but immediately shut off the machine, one of the belts will still break. It is very difficult to change these belts yourself and according to the repairman, once one belt breaks both must be replaced simultaneously. The repairman also told me that the motor is not sealed so dust can get into it very easily (i.e if the bag is even slightly overfilled or not put on tightly enough). Obviously all of these things cause the machine to lose suction rendering it useless. Pet hair appear to cause excessive wear and tear on this vacuum, making it even more likely to break down.
Pros: Suction, when it works. Cons: Everything else.
I have returned 4 of these units, all brand new. Each one had 1 of several problems. Either the belts burn up, the brush won't move, or it will not run unless the unit's carpet height is set 3 inches above the ground, thereby not picking any dirt up.
Another Windtunnel unit is under recall for burning belts, and I have sat on Hoover's Customer Service line for 20 minutes with no answer and hanging up.
I will be returning this unit and exchanging it for any other Vacuum vendor I can find but Hoover.
Pros: love the on board attachments, and the ease of using the extention hose Cons: price not worth the value. heavy, not easy to push without the self propelled function.
After much talk over which brand to buy, we decided on another hoover. had one that is still working just not well, pleased with the life of that vacuum we bought a self propelled model. Ha ha on us. it lasted 6 months before the self propell no longer worked. my husband tightened the cable and it worked again. then at 11 months had a nice wonderful smell everytime i used it. being a mother, the detective in me turned it over, again, and cleaned the brush out. the hole on the side that takes the dirt to the bag was almost completly packed. making the vacuum work much harder than it needed to. Cleaned this out (omg) the stuff in there was gross. now we only use this for upstairs and i have gone back to my old and noisy hoover. Will not purchase another one.
