Eddie Sexton - Sick Pervert Who Molested His Kids and Fathered his Own Grandkids

by CyndiA Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jul 03 '07
Pros: Seriously creepy story. Well researched and written.
Cons: Nightmare material. Read with caution.
“House of Secrets” by Lowell Cauffiel is the most disturbing true crime story I’ve ever read. Sure. Murder is always chilling, but this tale literally gave me cold chills on a hot Carolina summer day. The evil outlined here is way beyond ...

Pros: informative, well documented
Cons: ...
I don't read as much as I would like to, but traveling always includes a book or two so I can pass my downtime.  Thanksgiving, although there wasn't nearly as much downtime this year, brought me to House of Secrets by Lowell Cauffiel.  I ...

House of Secrets: A Tale of Incest and Murder

by CultureShock , Mar 12 '01
Pros: Important to expose the issue of incest
Cons: Poorly written, replete with grammatical errors
Eddie Lee Sexton and his wife Estella May had twelve children, all of whom were systematically sexually, physically, and mentally abused. Their children eventually told authorities about rape and sodomy, torture, animal sacrifice, and murder that went...

Eddie Sexton is Poster-Child for Dysfunctional Patriarch

by martyfig , Mar 05 '01
Pros: Narrative flows easily as horrific crimes are intertwined into sick knots of psychological detail.
Cons: Hard to not throw it across the room in anger.
It is hard to figure out which thing is the most disturbing in this tale pieced together by Cauffiel: the sickly self-absorbed Eddie, father of America's most dysfunctional family, his blandly ignorant wife, or the fact that friends, neighbors and other...

Your Family Is Your Country!

by kuiipo Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 04 '01
Pros: A very interesting story.
Cons: This is the most dysfunctional family I have ever heard or read about.
Three years ago, I bought this book because the story on the inside very much interest me and so I took it home and did not stop reading this book until I was finished and that was about a day later.

Lowell Cauffiel did a very superb job in...

A Most Bizarre and Twisted Tale

by roseannintexas , Oct 25 '02
Pros: Spellbinding saga.Educational information concerning incest and abuse.
Cons: Very disturbing. So bizarre and graphic, it's almost hard to believe.
House of HELL!!! The many children of Eddie and Estella Sexton were subjected to the most depraved, psychotic upbringing ever. Though many of the specific details are inconsistent from one sibling to another and yet another, two disturbing facts...

House of Secrets
by catzizme ,Sep 11 '05
Pros: Highly recommend this book, the author keeps you wanting more details and facts and delivers!
Cons: None
My daughter bought me this book for my birthday because she knows I like the unusual, wow was she right on with this one! Through out the book I tried to imagine what was going on in the minds of all involved. It truly was hard to put down. It made me want to research more into the mind of Eddie Sexton and made me shutter to think there are people like him out there, maybe right next door. Good reading!

Very engrossing story
by bpeterson85 ,Dec 09 '05
Pros: Interesting, disgusting, compelling
Cons: Some typos & whatnot, weaved in & out between time periods & events, etc
I read this book for hours and hours on end, finishing it within in a few days of starting it. I was so engrossed in this book, I stayed up so late reading it that I had to make myself put it down so I could get some sleep. Yes, there were some typos in this book as another reviewer wrote, but that's not necessarily the fault of the author. And anyway, the story was so compelling and interesting that WHO CARES?! This was one of the best true crime reads I've had & I would recommend it. I just can't believe how ignorant the wife was to have let all of this happen. There were signs of abuse almost immediately after they were married & she only had one child from a previous relationship. All of this could have been prevented if she had only had enough self worth to protect her 1st child & herself by leaving the bastard Eddie before she got in too deep w/ tons of children for him to conveniently molest, etc.
