Pros: Solid construction, with an eye for historic detail. Cons: Super heavy and difficult to install.
This won't be a complete review as I never got this fan installed. But I'm writing it anyway just so other consumers can learn from my experience. I'm a huge fan (no pun intended) of the Hunter ceiling fans. I think they're the most reliable fan on ...

Hunter Original ceiling fan, a unique motor
by russmead ,Mar 22 '04
Pros: The most powerful fan motor around. Oil bath system for the bearings. Cons: Very heavy to mount. About 45 pounds.
This fan is unlike any other fan you will see. The fan body is the motor body rather than some tin shell that covers a cheep motor. Most fans today have a simple washing machine type motor with a housing around it. These other models wobble because the weight of the motor is not distributed over a very large area. The hunter original is different. The large housing actually holds the motor windings. The result is a balanced flywheel type fan that does not wobble.
One new change. The new model of Hunter originals are no longer made in the USA and are more energy efficient. Hunter says the new design is just as powerful even though it uses much less electricity. Maybe some engineer can comment.
I have had several of the USA made hunter originals, including the 23856. They can run all day, everyday and not burn up. They do not wobble, in part because of the large motor and partly because Hunter matches each blade set.
