Pros: Great and insightful telling of the horrors of war. Cons: None really.
War is hell and here is a window for us to see into what Dante forgot to tell us about. If you have read other reviews of In Harm's Way: The Sinking of the U. S. S. Indianapolis & the Extraordinary Story of Its Survivors by Doug Stanton, most will ...
Pros: Frequently gripping and well written. Cons: Condescending, rushed, and politically correct.
The sinking of the USS Indianapolis, the last major American warship sunk in World War II, is one of the few naval disasters from that conflict that's still remembered by a lot of people today. Most people probably remember the loss of the ...

In Harms Way: The True, Chilling Story of the "Indy". by aries98 ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: Historically accurate and graphic account of the tragedy of the USS Indianapolis. Cons: NONE!
I bought "In Harms Way" at Barnes and Noble. It was on clearance, and I honestly bought it for a friend. I made the mistake of picking up the book, and couldnt put it down!
The book is written with a tremendous amount of footnotes and research. Author Doug Stanton has gone to great lengths to obtain accurate information about this great and horrific event in U.S. Naval history. If there are conflicting accounts of a particular ordeal, there is a footnote that explains the discrepancy. Stanton has written a fascinating and graphic portrayal of the events as they unfolded. So much to the point that you could very easily see the events in your minds eye. I truly found the story gripping, and as a result of reading the book, I now have been researching on the internet and History Channel for more information. This book once again shows the tenacity, courage, and bravery of the men that have kept our great country free, and how many of them died needlessly due to simple lack of communication. If you get the chance, read this book!
