Pros: Easy to install. Takes little space. Children not able to open it. Very durable. Cons: Price. Takes 2 hands to retract it quietly. May be hard for grandparents.
Info from One Step Ahead ($109.95) · 32"H x 51"W · "Mesh" white screen: 49"L · Gate retracted: 33"H x 5"L x 3"W The Kiddy Guard is one of the better gates available. Initially I thought that it was too ...
Pros: Sleek, discreet design allows it to be retracted when not in use. Cons: Expensive, hard to open gate with one hand, assembly instructions are difficult to understand.
When I first saw this gate I thought I'd love it - it fits wider spaces (up to 52". height is 32")without need of additional panels and has a slim, streamlined design that allows it to be fully retracted into a plastic casing when not in use. The...
Pros: Works great, very young children can't open, retractable, looks nice open or closed. Cons: Expensive, loud, can be difficult to open with one hand.
We have a long, curved staircase with no walls to attach a gate to. Originally, we had a plain wooden gate between the two fat wooden posts on the bottom of our stairs. But, even these posts are on the first stair. That gate kept falling down when our ...
Pros: It can be used only when needed. Ideal for grandparents! Cons: Hard to get the hang of using. Not fun to install.
I hate standard baby gates! But with a crawling baby, 3 pets, and another baby being contemplated, I had to baby proof. When I saw this style of baby gate that retracts completely out of the way, I was sold.
The only solution for us. by mom2ethan ,Jan 18 '05
Pros: Works well in hard to fit spaces, like uneven walls. Cons: Expensive, The instructions are difficult to understand.
We have an uneven space at the top of our stairs. This gate seemed to be the only solution for us. The directions were difficult to understand, but once we got it up we loved it.
The gate covers the uneven space well with no gaps and functions well despite the fact that the walls it attaches to are not even. It's not hard to learn to use the gate, but it does take a little practice. The gate is easy to open with one hand, but takes 2 hands to close. Once closed it functions well and even keeps my 3 45lb dogs contained. When not in use the gate retracts easily. When retracted you really don't even notice that the gate is there.
I would definitely recommend this gate to anyone who has a difficult area to cover. It has worked well for us.
Pros: Easy to easy and very simple to install. Cons: A little too easy to open for some children.
While it served it's purpose when my son was crawling, I had to change gates once he could walk. He's one of those very curious toddlers and he managed to get the top part of it opened. I was too afraid he'd have to bottom opened too so I had a custom gate put in. It is a good gate, but some children may be able to open it. Not a good thing. So, buy accordingly and always keep an eye on your child when they are near it.
