Pros: Larger screen, more displayed info, DVD combo if needed Cons: Too many: Easily loses signal, slow recalculation, inaccurate location, irresponsive touch screen
Have had this unit for a little over a week, driven 2,000+ miles, and about to return it to store. The system has some nice features, but fatally failed in the performance of the core function: navigation assistance. Note: Initial GD-72 Navigation ...

Pros: DVD/GPS combo unit. Cons: Poor customer service. Poor quality of product.
I just had to share my experience with the purchase of the GD-70 GPS/DVD player manufactured by Initial Technologies. The original unit was purchased sometime in 2005 from QVC. I used the unit on one trip and upon my return, the DVD player no longer ...

SEEMS GREAT SO FAR!
by kree8v1 ,Feb 08 '06
Pros: Easy to use, great screen size, and it can obviously take some bumps & bruises!! Cons: If there's a way to load multiple maps (regions). Perhaps using a separate digital card.
Bought this item at Christmas time and used it 12/29/05 driving from NJ to Quebec City, Canada. It was working great. Unfortunately, 65mi. outside of QC, we hit black ice and spun and rolled the SUV over upside down. Recovered the GPS (but not the SUV!) and it is working just fine! Love the big screen. We have nicknamed the female voice "Zsa-Zsa". We have never used a GPS before so we can't really compare, but it suits our needs so far. The only con, so far, is that on the drive to Canada, we had to load the Canada maps at the border, not at the onset of the trip in NJ. I need to call Initial Support to ask if there is a way to load multiple maps (regions).

Avoid it like the plague
by dgianna ,May 11 '06
Pros: Big screen
Also plays DVD (when not navigating) Cons: Very unreliable, quirky and unresponsive interaction, POI data incomplete/out of date.
- Interaction is quirky and sometimes unresponsive.
- Occasionally you may find that the touch-screen does not respond at all.
- POI (Point of Interest) data is incomplete and often out of date.
- Very unreliable -- I am on my third unit. The first two got their ROM mysteriously "zapped" and could not boot up (though the DVD player functionality still works). The only way to fix it is to return to the manufacturer. Fortunately, they never last long enough to be out of warranty...
My third unit is problematic out of the box. It frequently "freezes" and has to be powered off/on to recover. Prior units occasionally did this, but this one is very chronic and had to go right back.
Now awaiting the fourth unit in less than six months...
(sigh)
Oh, since you can't watch a DVD and navigate simultaneously, and DVD-only players are very inexpensive, what's the point of combining the two? You could have both a navi and a DVD unit separately that work better and cost less than the two-in-one unit that is of poor quality.
Um, what's the point?

Dead after 5 days of use
by iburu ,Jun 06 '06
Pros: Easy to program new destination Cons: too slow to redirect
From the day one (May 26, 2006) I experienced problems with system updating information on the right part of the screen on time.
System was showing that I am located 300 - 400 feet away from the intersection,
but in fact I already made a turn (at the same time location of the car on the map itself was accurate).
Right away left part of the screen got completely blank for the few seconds. Then 5-6 seconds later returns back to the navigation process.
On June 3rd unit couldn't start navigation at all and produce an error:
The system cant find navigate the software in the Flash, please check it, then restart the system
