Cheap FM transmitter that works okay, not great

by maceyr Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Feb 28 '04
Pros: cheap FM transmitter if it works for you, small and lightweight
Cons: May not work for you, or output may vary depending on your area, stereo, etc.
Cheap radio transmitter that works okay, not great With most cars now outfitted with AM/FM radio and CD players and CD changers nowadays rather than a cassette with AM/FM radio (now considered passé), there is a need to find a gadget that will allow ...

Does what it claims.. could be better..

by hrlaser , Oct 24 '04
Pros: Compact, ridiculously easy to use
Cons: Battery Life, ergonomics of battery compartment.
I was using a cassette adpater to play my Rio Volt portable CD-based .MP3 player in my car, and got sick of the thin wire hanging out of the cassette well in the dash Stereo all the time, so I decided to try the iRock! Beam-it. Bought one at Radio Shack ...

Not quite the solution you may be looking for

by trico_2000 , Dec 29 '03
Pros: -Easy to set-up -Less wiring -Decent reception sometimes -Long battery life (see Cons) -Affordable
Cons: -Reception bad in cases -Easy to leave on (goodbye batteries!) -Connecting source audio possibly tricky
As with many people these days, I am looking to create the all-in-one audio solution, whereby every possible audio emitting item in my bedroom is connected to the most powerful system, including the TV, CD Player, DVD Player, Gaming console and PC. ...

Piece of junk

by suburbanites , Jan 13 '04
Pros: None.
Cons: flawed design. doesn't work, all hype but doesn't pan out.
My wife and I saw these in CompUSA and thought "Gee, what a novel concept", let's try it. So we forked over our $30 to give this a spin and see if it worked. The first test was the home stereo -- I live in an apartment building, and my antenna is the ...

Decent enough.

by sanmichael , Jun 27 '04
Pros: Size, power cord (400 model), no batteries, ease of use.
Cons: Static, inability to attach the adapter to anything. Has to sit on your car seat.
I bought iRock 400 after reading some unfavorable reviews and was really skeptical. Well, I was pleasantly surprised! IRock actually works! I bought it at Radio Shack so I can take it back if I don't like it, but I will not be taking it back. It is not ...

Good, but only works for a limited time.

by alterleo , May 27 '04
Pros: It works pretty well at first. You WILL be pleased. At first.
Cons: The cord's durability sucks. You're left with something not heavy enough to be a paperweight.
I've got a relatively old car. It's a 1990 Chevy Caprice. It doesn't have a CD player in it, but I have a pretty large CD collection. I LOVE music. I practically NEED music. I can't go without it for too long. If I could listen to music at work, I ...

When it works, it's decent.

by eep_ , May 17 '05
Pros: price, portability
Cons: life expectancy, only 4 radio station choices
I bought the iRock FM transmitter online for a couple months ago for ~$20 and it worked great for about a month, then the stereo would cut out (sometimes coming back if I moved the transmitter around) and, finally the transmitter just would not transmit ...

Nice idea, but has the durability of tissue paper
by dave_peterson ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Enables one to hear portable devices through the car radio
Cons: Breaks so quickly that it must be considered worthless.
This is a report on the TWO iRock Music Adapters I've had.

I bought the iRock Wireless Music Adapter because my police scanner has a tiny speaker that is difficult to hear in the car.

The adapter lets me hear the scanner through the car speakers. This was really nice. Unfortunately, the experience did not last long.

The wires the line going to your headphone jack are low quality. They break after a short time. My first unit lasted several months before shorting out. First it was one channel, then the other went out. The company was nice enough to send me a new one. They were aware of the problem and claimed that this was fixed. The new one arrived. I used it five times in the car. The total time I used it was about two hours. It gave up.

This time it goes straight to the trash can. I'll try the contraption that connects the headphone jack to the tape player in the car.

When it worked, it was nice, but I can't recommend an item that costs $29.00 and will break almost immediately.

Still cant believe how cool it is
by angos99 ,Oct 09 '03
Pros: Small and lightweight, very portable and only one wire connection
Cons: batteries die somewhat fast, static, could have been a bit cheaper in price
I got sick of using the tape adapter...so many porblems with it and so many wires that tangled up...the sound wasn't even that good...i decided to get this and its really great. i hook up my CD player to it and it sounds really good...some say that the antenna isn't that good, which is true...you get the best sound when your hand is right above either the iRock or the device your using. But even without this it sounds really good...i was impressed and would recommend this to anyone..sometimes you just get sick of the same songs on the radio and need a change...go for it, its worth it...throw some rechargables and your good to go.

Super gadget!
by cfetters ,Sep 29 '03
Pros: Small size, good battery life, versatile.
Cons: PowerButton gets accidently depressed- turns off. Battery runs down overnight if forget to turn off.
This is a great gadget to broadcast from walkman, PDA, Laptop or any music device which has a 1/8" stereo headphone jack. It has good range and I use it at home, in the car and while I'm working around the house with my FM headphones. It uses (2) AAA batteries - make sure to watch the icons - both go in the same direction (different than any other battery device I own.)

Overall I love it and would recommend to anyone. It broadcasts on selectable FM channels 88.1, 88.3, 88.5 & 88.7. When I drive through NYC, I sometimes have to jump channels a bit to keep it from being overpowered. The idea is that you choose a channel not being used in your area. Most of the time, this isn't a problem.

Poor radio reception quality - don't buy this
by nolansanders ,Mar 21 '04
Pros: Stylish design
Cons: Does not work as advertised
I have the 400FM and have tried it in our Volvo 850 and our Acura. All four radio station frequencies are broadcast so weak from the iRock that they do not come in /at all/ on the radio station in the car(s). This is true of stations that have no competition from 'real' stations. I would recommend against this product.
