Pros: Price, picture and sound quality, features, inputs, all cables included Cons: MP3 playback functionality is very limited, slow disc change
The JVC XV-FA90BK is a 7-disc DVD Audio/Video changer with progressive scan, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 playback, Dolby Digital and DTS decoders built-in. It sells for less than $330.
The changer holds 7 discs and allows you replace 6 discs...
Pros: Excellent connectivity, sound, features, picture, and remote Cons: it's pretty big
I love DVDs. I love the fact that this one format encompasses so many different uses. Movies, games, music, TV shows, basically whatever you want. I've had a rather cheap (very cheap) APEX DVD player for a while now. It had a digital audio output, and an...
Pros: Great sound! Cons: Video can be a problem with the "BLINK"- read review.
As in the movie, there is no perfect man, and this review states that it also applies to DVD's as well. Recently I upgraded from an old sony receiver and JVC DVD player. The intent was to get Sub woofer sound from the receiver and DTS decoding from the ...
Pros: Superior picture, 7-disc flexibility, multi-format player Cons: Initial set up was problematic. Remote takes some getting used to.
I've become a fan of my new JVC multi-disc player, but frankly, it's been touch and go since I bought it from the Good Guys online. I already own a Sony 560S player but it was having problems reading discs whenever it was played for an extended period ...
Pros: Holds 7 Discs, plays MP3 CD-ROM, Fantastic sound & Picture. Glow in the dark remote. Cons: Oversized.
Dollar for dollar, few things I have ever purchased have been as satisfying as this DVD changer. It's video and audio performance are excellent. A couple of years ago this kind of quality would have cost $1000 or more.
When my 5-disc CD changer died, I thought this DVD changer would be the ideal upgrade... If you read the features list it is quite impressive.
Unfortunately while it works as advertised, it doesn't do a number of things very well. My biggest issues:
- Very loud disc changing mechanism. This is due to the complexity needed for 7 disc (vs. a std 5-disc tray)
- This player skips very easily for slight scratched discs that play just fine on other devices.
- The shuffle functionality appears to be an afterthought: It is only accessible via a menu on your TV (not from front panel or remote) and it only works for a single disc. A real bummer if you play alot of CDs.
If the items above don't bug you, then it is a nice deck but I think a more polished 5-disc deck would be a better choice.
Very easy to install with the stereo but in order to use DVD-Audio features your amplifier must accept front, rear, center, and subwoofer inputs. My Yamaha receiver accomodated that and as external decoded inputs. For those discs using DVD-Audio, the sound is warm and full. No problems with MP3 or JPEG files. MP3s and regular CDs will not have the same fidelity as the DVD enhanced discs. Be careful with the initial setup. It must match your stereo system's capabilities. Considering this unit is about 1/4th the price of 1G systems, you get a lot for your money.
