Pros: Light, ethereal cooking in a sun-dappled dining room, pleasant service Cons: Expensive, formal, no real park views
One of the best things about the ugly Trump International is that it houses one of New York's best restaurants. The superlatives garnered by this place are well deserved. Jean Georges Vongerichten has earned his laurels as a superstar chef, but...

Pros: Absolutely top-notch, full-flavored, creatively prepared dishes and flawless service. Cons: But....if you are expecting perfection, you might be disappointed.
I wasn’t sure I could make it. After six decadent courses at the temple of fine dining known as Jean- Georges, I found myself feeling quite over-indulgent, wondering how many times one could commit the sin of gluttony in one sitting. Suddenly as...

Pros: Food quality, service - creativity of courses - elegance Cons: Wine selection
What can you say about a restaurant that is consistently in the top-ten lists of places to eat in New York City? A restaurant that is one of only four restaurants in NYC to receive a 3 start (the highest) rating from the Michelin Guide? A restaurant ...

Pros: Culinary Greatness Cons: Long Waits
If I could grant Jean Georges greater than Five Stars, I certainly would. But you would never have known it the way our evening started. Having said that, I hope this review will illustrate how an excellent kitchen can compensate for a lot of...

Pros: everything Cons: cost and difficulty getting a reservation
I love this restaurant. Everything about this restaurant. If I could afford it, I would eat here once a week. Unfortunately, because of its prices, it's more of a once-a-year special event restaurant. The food is just spectacular. The multiple-course...

Pros: heavenly food, wonderful service, gorgeous decor, fine wine Cons: highly expensive
I consider myself one of the lucky to have eaten at Jean-Georges not once, but twice. This posh restaurant is not only a place for a meal, but for an experience.
Located on Central Park West in the fashionable Trump Plaza Hotel, Jean-Georges...

Pros: Food is very good Cons: Service inacceptable.
Does not match the standards of a 3 stars Michelin
I just wanted to inform you that I have been very very disappointed by the quality of the service during the attempted romantic dinner I was trying to have with my girlfriend yesterday night at this place. First of all, the table itself: I would have ...

Pros: All of the ingredients are fresh and superbly prepared. Cons: The tasting menu requirements are awkward and Jean-Georges' staff need an education in wine.
Jean-Georges is pure art: everything from the decor to the dessert are aesthetic masterpieces. I would have liked to photograph my dessert and frame it!
Occasionally, I find the finer restaurants emphasize one plate and neglect another. For...

Pros: Beautiful presentation of fresh foods. Cons: Crowded tables with too-large dishes.
Jean-Georges, which is located in the Trump World Hotel at Columbus Circle, is the finest restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Each appetizer and entree is fresh and not smothered with 'fancy' sauces or awash in gravy or dressing. The...

Pros: Food, Decor Cons: nothing
The worst thing about eating at Jean-George is the wait to make a reservation. I called on a Thursday evening around 7:00 PM and I was on hold for a half hour. Every second was worth it. I was told on the phone by a woman with a very lovely French accent...

Pros: Great Ambiance, Great Food, Great Service Cons: Too much of a good thing?
I love this restaurant. My boyfriend took me for Valentine's Day and I was so pleasantly surprised, I could hardly contain my excitement. The only drawback about the restaurant was when we arrived. Even though we were on time for our reservation, we...

Pros: Incredible! Creative, outstanding food and impeccable service. Cons: You will be spoiled and not want to eat anything the next day.
I eat in NYC quite a lot and this is my favorite restaurant.
On my last visit, we had four in our party for dinner. We all did the tasting menu, two had the optional cheese course, and we had a single bottle of wine. Including tip, the bill...

Over the top? I guess - and worth it
by richmcleod ,Jul 05 '04
Pros: Food, wine, service, ambiance, location... hmm - what else is there? Cons: It's all about money
My wife and I (we're from Kansas City) don't get to New York much. We had a business meeting with a guy from Yale and he thought that was a good half-way point (east coast view of the world, I guess). He got the reservation (our expense account got the bill). All I can say is even the somewhat unenlightened midwestern tastes we brought to the table were thrilled. Our guest (somewhat more enlightened) confirmed our judgment that Jean-Georges is simply a treat to be enjoyed. He had an eye for the Bordeaux wine list - we had tastebuds that were thrilled.
I'm a guy who normally doesn't like restaurants where the waiters dress better than I do - at Jean-Georges, a khakis and blazer guest felt okay.
Some say Jean-Georges is to be enjoyed as often as you can. Since there is no chance for us that will be more than every year or two, I don't think we risk over exposure. But for the group that has this chance only rarely, my wife and I say do it at least once if you possibly can.
