Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins

by snpmurray Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 21 '06
Pros: Colorful easy read combined with complex rich imaginative plot!
Cons: Unnecessary snide comments toward Christianity were like pee in pool.
Jitterbug Perfume is the book that I tell friends to read when they indicate to me that they are interested in something a little different, a book off the beaten track, something that is going to take them on an unexpected journey. While Jitterbug ...

Make Love to the English Language

by obnox , Apr 24 '01
Pros: The fact that this story could not only be written, but pulled off so eloquently.
Cons: Not my favorite, but definitely classic Tom Robbins.
Jitterbug Perfume is the story of the search for the world's most perfect scent. An epic novel, spanning a millennium, brings us to modern day Paris, Seattle and New Orleans where three perfumers are fated to find that perfect smell, the elixir for...

I can almost smell the flowers!

by _Cassandra_ , Sep 20 '00
Pros: Great writing, lots of twists, and it all ties up neatly.
Cons: The style can get predictable and maybe annoying to some
Jitterbug Perfume is my favourite Tom Robbins book, and I have read, and love, them all. This book combines Robbins' best storytelling with some very profound ideas about immortality, sexuality (as always) and Robbins' inimicable humour.

In...

smell=evolution

by knichol , Apr 20 '00
Pros: humorous, engaging
Cons: too brief on some themes
Religion, evolution, sex & neurochemistry all combine in another humorous and thought provoking Robbins novel. I realize we are supposed to comment on "writing style," but I am not sure there is a way to describe Robbins' style of writing....

Jitterbug Perfume.. Smells like another winner

by PKWBassGuy , Jan 11 '00
Pros: big fun.. only two lines to follow
Cons: none really except one plot drags a little at times
As opposed to some of Mr. Robbins' more peripatetic works.. there are only really two main plotlines in this novel. One.. some ancient folks.. who happen to be buddies with the Stinky-but-Horny Goat God Pan (Gotta love an author who makes such things...

One of Robbins' Best

by koka , Jun 04 '01
Pros: Very entertaining
Cons: Not completely realistic
Jitterbug Perfume will remain one of my favorites. The characters and situations are colorful and enticing. This is more of a fantasy novel than your average story. The characters are exaggerated, like most of Robbins' characters. Yet he tells the tale...

Thomas Pynchon liked it- so should you

by rimskyk12 , Jul 18 '00
Pros: amazing use of language and ideas
Cons: having to put it down
As a self ordained Tom Robbins aficionado, I feel I am somewhat qualified to announce Jitterbug Perfume as Robbins' best work. Within this book he manages to combine all of his trademark conventions effortlessly to produce a work unlike any other. His...
