After all of our bad experiences with our unreliable Husqvarna chain saw, I researched for days of finding a dependable, quality chain saw. Final decisions were between the Stihl brand and the John Deere brand of chain saws. Both were comparable...
Pros: cost and durability Cons: noisy and chips fly everywhere
A while back I purchased this saw off of a friend of mine. I needed it to cut down a one hundred foot tall tree. It had a trunk size of about 24" in diameter. I paid $100 for but I know that it costs more brand new. Around $200. I didn't know if I...
Pros: powerful and easy to cut with Cons: a little noisy
This chain saw was probably the best home and garden investment i ever made. It saves me hours of cutting and days of the old aches and pains i used to get from arduously hacking through every bulky and obstructing limb that my tree could procure. It...
Pros: Easy to start, light weight and plenty of power Cons: John Deere customer support is second rate at best.
Let me start out by saying this is a great saw. It has plenty of power, is relatively light weight and most importantly for me is easy to start. The decompression switch on the engine makes pull starting this saw a breeze. I have never had an engine ...
I've messed with chainsaws it seems like all my life but I never got around to actually buying one until just recently. I've never had the need to own one until I got a place with a fireplace. Not that I've been with out a fireplace it's just that I got...
Pros: don't vibrate up the arm, easy to maintain Cons: not good for large jobs
I work as a carpenter part-time during the summer months. I have many tools in my garage and many different saws.
This saw, the 200CS, was given to me as a gift from a friend last summer.
I wasn't to sure about it because the size was a...
John Deere, you've done it again. This is the saw of all chainsaws baby. I can cut through anything with this mofo. I feel unstoppable when I hold it in my hands, as if I can do anything. This is a very pleasing tool to work with. It starts up on...
John Deere Chainsaw Model CS40 by njrotcjdp ,Aug 02 '06
Pros: light weight, strong for size, runs well, low maintenance Cons: Throws chain off sprocket too easy.
We've had the saw for five years now and are content with it. I'm an occasional user and the saw isn't used that much. But when I do use a saw I don't want to spend all my time pulling on the rope. I had previously purchased the same size saw of the Poulan variety for about half the price. The thinking here was it would do the job of light work. And it did when I could get it started. It didn't take me long to wise up and deposit it in the can, after it took a trip airborne. The CS40 starts good, idles well, and cuts good. The only complaint I have about it is if you don't keep the chain fairly snug it jumps the sprocket. It took some getting use to. I have always preferred to run the chain with a little slack thinking it is easier on the saw. It has done well on medium to small oak and hickory. Its also lightweight and nimble enough for trimming chores. Just after I purchased it from the dealer I saw the exact same thing at Home Depot for about forty bucks cheaper.
