In a nutshell, I've had the 445 for 3 years. It never worked right, from the get-go. After 2 years they found a bad weld in the gas line which was causing all the trouble but refused to fix it under warranty. A grand down the drain.

This mower is one amazing mowing machine, and it will continue to be that way for a long long time. Yes, I will say the service is a little costly, but you only have to do it every 100 hours, double the service life of normal mowers. Also, having my Deere dealer is like having another best friend, they are fast and always helpful. Aside from less maintenance, there is also the amazing durability of the Yanmar Diesel engine. I bought this machine because number one, I knew my dealer would stand behind it, and a good dealer is almost as crucial as a good machine; Number two, I know it will last, with normal maintenance, and it will retain value; and Number three, its always dependable for whatever I need to do.

This is my 4th John Deere tractor and I believe it is absolutely the best one to date. This tractor has the 4 wheel steering system which is absolutely necessary if you intend to blow snow. One can always steer away from the snow drift instead of getting pulled in. I also have a bagger with a belt driven mulcher on it, approx 13 bus. This is a necessity if you have a larger yard with a lot of trees. My 5 acre yard is much more fun to contend with now that I have this 3cyl dependable diesel working for me. The 54"deck with 4 wheel steer makes going around trees almost as easy as the f515 three wheel model. I have not noticed grease nipples on the mower deck wheels or bagger system wheels on any other product. Take care of the unit and change oil & filter every 50 hours and it will last forever. I have 683 hours on mine and it looks and handles like new.

Pros: Large, powerful and easy on the lawn.
Cons: Service once a year is a little costly.

This is by far the best mower i have ever owned. Moving from a 48 inch Murray to the 60 inch this baby is absolutely fabulous.

The power in the 455 is unreal.
I would proudly, highly recommend John Deere and the 455 model.

I have only ever had one problem of a blown fuse over the past 2 years that iv'e owned the machine.
